Guest y2jailbait Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 British rock groups make some of the music that sets the standards of originality and consistency that American groups would sell their mothers for.
Guest caboose Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 I have to vote American simply because Britain spawned the pile of crap none as 'Oasis'.
PsychoDriver Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 I'll have to say Britain... most everything music wise I enjoy anymore seems to come from the UK.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 Regardless (all-time OR current), I'm picking US. Why? Well, to quote Steve-O (Matthew Lillard) from SLC Punk... The truth is that we [America] did it harder, did it faster, and did it with more emotion.
Guest saturnmark4life Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 In other words, America created emo, and thus are fighting a losing battle.
Guest razazteca Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 American: Jazz Blues Rap British gave us American Idol judge Simon Beatles Rolling Stones In other words, America created emo, and thus are fighting a losing battle. Radio Head's Thom York is one big crybaby I'm calling straight done the middle
Guest Memphis Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 Rolling Stones, The Beatles and Jimmy F'N Page. British music owns your ass, America. M
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 I think it's really varies over time, and depends on what genres you're looking at. As far as rock music is concerned, England gave us The Beatles, The Who, Pink Floyd, and Black Sabbath, who collectively influenced pretty much every rock band to come after them. Not to say America was without it's bright points, because we had pretty much every blues picker under the sun, without whom rock music wouldn't exist. With metal, I'd give the award to the US in a heartbeat. The NWOBHM (save Motorhead) can lick balls as far as I'm concerned. This is where Corey's quote really applies.
Guest The Hamburglar Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 Britain has all the warp music as well. Shitloads of greatness. And as for Oasis, hey, their first two albums were great. Their descent into pure shittyness has been hilarious to watch, too.
Guest nl5xsk1 Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 I didn't vote but will give my opinion ... For me it's cyclical but right now I'm more into the UK music. The UK bands seem to create a new sound that is then modified (improved?) by the US. When I was younger I was wicked into punk and hardcore, and even though I think that both of those sounds originated in the UK, they were improved upon by US bands. Same with metal.
Guest caboose Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 And as for Oasis, hey, their first two albums were great. Their descent into pure shittyness has been hilarious to watch, too. Which 2 albums are you on about? I don't remember anything good from Oasis. Descent? More they've maintained a constant level of being pure crap.
Guest Midnight Express83 Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 my all and all favortie style of music is rap. Name ONE great rapper from UK?
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 my all and all favortie style of music is rap. Name ONE great rapper from UK? Well, Slick Rick kind of uses a fake accent...
Guest godthedog Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 UK has better white guys, we have better black guys.

NWOBHM was amazing, its just the american bands shitted on what it was supose to be. Thus why Canadian Music is better than both of them
B. Brian Brunzell Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 Well, England gave me The Clash, Pink Floyd, and David Bowie. America gave me the Blues, KISS, TOOL,Metallica, Chris Cornell, and Mike Patton. Canada gave me Devin Townsend and Rush. Boy, that's a toughie. But, since The Clash and the Floyd are my two favorite groups of all-time, I gotsta go with England.
Guest Mystery Eskimo Posted May 15, 2003 Report Posted May 15, 2003 Nobody cares about rap in Britain apart from wannabe gangsters and 12 year old boys.
Guest Memphis Posted May 15, 2003 Report Posted May 15, 2003 And as for Oasis, hey, their first two albums were great. Their descent into pure shittyness has been hilarious to watch, too. Just don't be ignorant. It's okay not to like something. But if your lashing out at music that is good just because your not in favor of the band then your being ridiculous. Definitely Maybe & Morning Glory are the albums in question, two surperb efforts with the latter being the highest selling album of all time within the United Kingdom. M
Guest Big McLargeHuge Posted May 15, 2003 Report Posted May 15, 2003 America. Rock & Roll was born here, boyo. Remember that. I can't believe Razateca left that off his list of American music.
Guest BAR Posted May 15, 2003 Report Posted May 15, 2003 (edited) My favourite band is Pink Floyd. So, I gotta go with Britain. Edited July 30, 2003 by BAR
Guest starvenger Posted May 15, 2003 Report Posted May 15, 2003 I'll say British, but give me Hoser Rock (or CanPop) any day of the week and I'll be happy. But maybe it's just because there's so much more American music that there's more crap to sift through to find the stuff you like.
Guest Jimmy Beard Posted May 15, 2003 Report Posted May 15, 2003 Hey Oasis or inparticular Noel Gallagher is the best talent in the last twenty years CABOOSE you arse!

Guest Jimmy Beard Posted May 15, 2003 Report Posted May 15, 2003 This is becoming one hell of a showdown between the two most music orientated country's in the world
Guest Plushy Al Logan Posted May 15, 2003 Report Posted May 15, 2003 Other good countries: Netherlands: Van Halen (the brothers at least) Austrailia: AC/DC Um.............that's about it.
Guest razazteca Posted May 15, 2003 Report Posted May 15, 2003 America. Rock & Roll was born here, boyo. Remember that. I can't believe Razateca left that off his list of American music. true but Rock & Roll is just the White Man stealing from the Black Man, but eh. I also left out Country music. Other good musical countries: Germany - Rammstein, KMFDM, Teenage Atari Riot and various DJs of Techno goodness France - Daft Phunk Iceland - Bjork and Black or Death Metal?
Guest caboose Posted May 15, 2003 Report Posted May 15, 2003 Hey Oasis or inparticular Noel Gallagher is the best talent in the last twenty years CABOOSE you arse! I'd hate to point this out to you, but Ian Brown and 'The Stone Roses' are gods in comparison to Oasis and Noel Gallagher, and they showed up a few years before Oasis.
