Guest Downhome Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 In a recent Ross Report, JR made a statement saying to look for The Big Valboski in the Main Event scene VERY soon. Yes, I'm calling him by that nickname because JR ALSO said that he would now be simply called The Big Valboski, instead of Val Venis. Do you guys thing Val can Main Event? I have always thought he could, but I don't think he's ready yet, he has quite a ways to go if you ask me... ...Val is however involved in a perty good match with Storm right now on Heat, so he is looking alright in the ring. Actually, he's looking better in the ring right now than he has in quite a while. Eh, I have no problem with him in the Main Event, as long as they don't take his gimmick TOO far. Anyhow, what do ya'll think about him possibly going to the Main Event, and the fact that he is now to be called simply The Big Valboski? (By the way, on Heat, they have ONLY called him The Big Valboski. Heck, even the Ring Annoucers ONLY called him by that, sooooooo, that part looks to be fact, so I can only assume the other part is also. Also, Val just beat Storm, lol.) Sincerely, ...Downhome...
Guest Some Guy Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 Calling him "The Big Valboski" might be the stupidest thing they could do if they want him to main event. He isn't even over at all right now, so i don't see how he could even be IC champ soon let alone in the main event. He is a good worker and talker, but he needs a completley new gimmick if he wants to get over huge.
Guest The Electrifyer Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 Val is not ready to be in the main event "VERY soon". He does deserve it, since he is a great talker and wrestler, but now is not the time. This time next year or so, he could probably due it if he stays healthy and impresses people. The only one close to main eventing right now, I feel is Edge. He's already feuding with (former) main eventers, Angle and Booker.
Guest goodhelmet Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 Did JR listen to the crickets when Perfect fought Venis? The guy needs a complete makeover and The Big Valbowski is not the answer. And neither is copying Rick Rude's gimmick.
Guest teke184 Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 Val was somewhat over enough in 1999 to warrant a short stay in the main event (playing job-boy to an unover HHH late in the year, IMHO), but he is NOWHERE close to being over enough for even a Euro title run right now. This is the kind of WWF thinking that pisses me off. It's like they said "Well, this guy was HUGELY over 4 years ago. Let's give him back his old gimmick, put him in 3 matches on RAW and Smackdown over the course of 2 months, then let's stick him in the main event!" The sad thing is that can describe the rumored pushes of Val as much as the Old World Order who, outside of Hogan, have been a HUGE waste of money. Val, IMHO, is a lot like Test right now because they used to be over, yet had their heat ruined in various ways (RTC gimmick for Val, HHH stealing Steph for Test) and never quite recovered. The real difference is that Val got stuck in HWA for most of the past year due to bad timing more than anything else, while Test got an undeserved IC reign and a failed program against The Rock.
Guest Mystery Eskimo Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 Val is a great wrestler, but is desperately in need of a new gimmick. The Big Valbowski is a pretty silly name really. I can't think of a new gimmick off the top of my head...maybe give him a partner (like Storm perhaps) and inject a fresh team into the stale tag division.
Guest goodhelmet Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 Actually, val had surgery if I remember correctly. But yeah, he was capable of returning long before he did. sidenote- The RTC might go down as one of the worst gimmicks ever. Its sole purpose was to let vince attack the PTC and the result was the burying of the wretlers who were apart of the angle.
Guest teke184 Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 While I didn't specifically state it, Val's bad timing was his surgery to remove calcium deposits or something like that, which put him on the shelf until just after the Invasion started. Once that happened, there was already a person in "his spot", so he got sent to HWA. As for the RTC, Val is the only person I felt sorry for who was stuck in the gimmick. Goodfather and Bull suck, Stevie isn't much of a wrestler anymore due to his injuries, and Ivory is a special case. She was already being buried before the RTC gimmick, and she got the Schoolmarm-from-Hell gimmick she was stuck with VERY over, IMHO. Too bad she got her ass handed to her by the manbeast Chyna at WM X-7.
Guest Human Fly Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 I honestly think the biggest thing hampering him right now is his name. "The Big Valbowski"? I always thought that name was stupid when he referred to himself as that. Now that's his ring name, oh well. I've thought before that he and Austin could have a good program together, but if Austin won't work with Scott Hall I guess Val is out of the question.
Guest TheDames7 Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 You know, the gimmick wouldn't be so bad if he just called himself Sean Morley, the "sexiest man in the WWF"
Guest TheDames7 Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 Sorry about the double post. You know, we should really have the option to delete our own posts. Dames
Guest goodhelmet Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 Dude, who do you think he is, Tom Zenk????
Guest Tony149 Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 I feel bad for former WCW ring announcer Gary Michael Captala (Sp?). He had to say "The sexiest man in WCW...the Z-Man."
Guest razazteca Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 Whatever happen to Val Venis' push when they discovered that he was the guy that threw away Mick Foley's book in the garbage? I thought Val was going to be main event back then. A name change is needed for both Val and Test, and Big Balboski is not the answer.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 Dude? What's up with the Austin potshot? You act like he refuses to work with everyone. He's done it like 3 times in his career. That's very little compared to other people in his position. Besides who would you rather work with? An up and coming worker who is a pretty good wrestler or a 45-year old former drunk who sucks in the ring unless his opponent has the initials S.M.? Big Valbowski? Well I thought Big Show was just weird at first and I got used to it. Well actually it still sucks.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 Umm...Raza....I believe Al Snow was the one that ditched the book.
Guest TheDames7 Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 Yeah, Al threw the book. Val stole Rocko. Dames
Guest Human Fly Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 If Austin wouldn't work with Jarrett, got mad about and pitched a fit about losing to Scott Hall, and the other examples. Do you honestly think he would work with Val? Taking a shot would've been "Austin is a rat bastard who is holding down talent" I'm merely stating opinion bast on past instances.
Guest razazteca Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 well all I remember was Val was in an angle with Foley around that time.
Guest KOR420 Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 Didnt they already try val in a main event push or something? i remember him being heel and they pushed him as bad as hell or something i never understood, one day he's getting his ass handed to him by low carders and the next hes trying to fight foley?
Guest The Masked Yodeler Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 Foley jobbed to Val. Of course, Foley was all about putting over up and coming talent. God, I miss Foley so much.
Guest ratboy Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 Yes, let's keep referring to--no, wait, solely refer to the performer by a similar name to a movie that was a minor hit over four years ago. Yes, that should work. (shakes head)
Guest Anglesault Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 You know, the gimmick wouldn't be so bad if he just called himself Sean Morley, the "sexiest man in the WWF" [sarcasm]Well THAT doesn't scream "jobber."[/sarcasm]
Guest Mystery Eskimo Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 Calling him "The Big Valbowski" screams "We want to give you a new gimmick, but we can't think of one, so here, have a new name, that might get you over."
Guest saturnmark4life Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 Val CAN'T main event. He's a solid midcarder but too in between a dumb gimmick and a generic guy to be a good main eventer. Kinda like Shane Douglas who sucks. The name change does him NO favours. If they do want him to be acknowledged as a wrestler it has to go. But he's not over as a generic guy so he's in the midcard4life, i reckon. While we're at it lets put Hardcore holly in a program with the rock.
Guest Mystery Eskimo Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 Arggh, Hardcore Holly, officially my most hated wrestler ever!
Guest muzanisa Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 Without a complete makeover, he's a mid-carder. Euro champion not IC champ and nowhere near the M/E unless he's in Canada against Kurt Angle in a house show and RVD isn't there.
Guest Mystery Eskimo Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 Don't remind Anglesault about that!
Guest KOR420 Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 I like Shane Douglas! he's alright, but Val unless he gets a new gimmick and stops trying so hard to be Rick Rude JR he is stuck in the mid card for his career, theres no way with that gimmick he could be in the main event
Guest Posted March 25, 2002 Report Posted March 25, 2002 Main Event?????? No way, not until another year or 18 months. He is crying out for a new gimmick and an actual feud. How about a feud with Edge, Christian, Storm????? I prefer him as a heel.
