Chazz Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 Is anyone else sick of The WWE airing commercials right In The middle of It's matches? When they first started doing It about a year ago, I didn't mind It so much. Now I think they do It so much that It has grown old ,especially on Smackdown! Not only do I think It kills the flow of a good match, It prolongs the agony of a bad one. But that's me. What do you guys think?
Guest evilhomer Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 I don't mind it so much. I agree that it ruins the flow for me, but at least it lets them put on longer matches. At least this way you get a 15 minute match that has some proper build to the ending. I like this over 5 minute matches that go kick, punch, spot, spot, finisher, end. It's all a rating grab though. They figure if it's a match you're interested in, you'll stick with it through the commercial break, as opposed to changing the channel and never coming back.
Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 I would only like it if they did something like when Flair and Windham wrestled for the whole hour show.
Guest mach7 Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 Remember when WCW used to do that all the time? So the WWF stopped doing it and they'd always have JR go on about how they'd "stick with this one till the end! No commercials, folks!" Gotta love how WWE goes back on itself over and over and over again. Then again, this is the same company that used to blast older wrestlers... and now look who half of their roster is made up of. McMahon = Wanker
Guest BifEverchad Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 Yeah, like chazz1998 said I didnt mind when they started doing it last year. It happened during a match on RAW or whatever, and I was like "oh, a commercial...this feels kinda old school, hehe". But now as they do it more and more, its become much of a pain in the arse. I'm aware that its a ratings and viewing tool, but still.
Guest DerangedHermit Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 I don't mind them doing it on Raw, but on Smackdown? It's a goddamn taped show!
B. Brian Brunzell Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 I guess the WWF feels that taking a break adds to a match, makes it more dramatic, if you weeeeeeeeeel. Cole and Tazz are usually pretty good at selling the actions that took place during the break, so I don't mind it.
Guest Cerebus Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 I wish I had a buck for everytime an RVD match was interrupted...I would have an extra 5 dollar bill in my pocket
Guest BobbyWhioux Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 Eh, since I started watching wrestling back in the early 90's, when the weekend morning shows would do this ALL THE TIME (WWF, WCW, during their main events / feature bouts, and the short lived GWF that did it a bunch), so I'm kinda numb to it. Almost a familiar bit of nostalgia for me... Hey, maybe that's it? It's part of the whole nostalgia kick! Bring back Hogan, Bring back Piper, Bring back Undert--oh, wait, he never left in the first place, Bring back Flair, and Bring Back Mid-Match Commercial Breaks! We're gonna party like it's 1989!
LooseCannon25 Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 I dont mind the commercials during the matches all that much. It seems to make them a little longer. I'll tell you what i do hate......the constant recaps.......like the infamous "MOMENTS AGO" when they replayed what just happened 2 minutes ago.....and then later in the night "EARLIER TONIGHT" they play the same damn clip AGAIN!!!! Also, when they keep showing something ALL the time like Big Show knocking Rey into the turnbuckle........I personally do NOT need to see that shit TWICE every SMACKDOWN ever freakin week. They've showed that clip continuously ever since Backlash. ITS OVER!!!! Thats enough, we get it already. Also, what the hell is up with the Elizabeth piece they did on Confidential airing on SMackdown.....are they so short on talent that they just have to keep replaying shit over and over? Ok, im done
Guest Youth N Asia Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 I really don't think putting the commercial in the middle of the match will keep me glued to the channel. Most likely I'll change the channel and then not join back into the match till it's a couple minutes back in. That's what happens with men anyway.
Guest El Satanico Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 Nope it doesn't bother me all that much...anymore. After all I was a WCW fan, so i've seen the practice done for YEARS.
Guest Slingshot Suplex Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 If you go back to NWA in the 80's,they used to end their shows in the middle of the match and then say to tune in next week to see how the match ended. Commercials are a minor annoyance compared to that.
Guest razazteca Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 Smackdown is a taped show so it really does not matter but when they do it on Raw which is LIVE I get pissed that I might of missed something good. The only good of it was when Tony Schiavonie would say "Don't Worry Folks the Tape Machines will be Running"
ChrisMWaters Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 I'm used to the commercials. I remember in ECW they would do that ALL THE TIME! So it's no big deal to me.
Guest Choken One Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 yeah and they only interrupt the RVD matches anyways...
Guest William E Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 I wish they would just show the damn commercials during a Rikishi or Big Show match instead of the good ones.
Guest Lil Naitch Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 At first I thought it was cool, because it usually meant that the match was going on longer. But now, it's gotten kind of old. They need to re-learn how to pace their commercial breaks.
Guest claydude14 Posted May 16, 2003 Report Posted May 16, 2003 If you go back to NWA in the 80's,they used to end their shows in the middle of the match and then say to tune in next week to see how the match ended. Commercials are a minor annoyance compared to that. I believe WWE did this once on RAW, Savio Vega and Razor were going for the tag belts and it appeared the faces would go over, but RAW went off the air. I spent a week thinking Vega and Razor pulled it off, only to find out they didn't. I was one mighty pissed mark to find out I waited a week for that
Guest ViciousFish Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 It's just one of those things including WWE logic that I've managed to ignore lately. The commercial is just time to take a piss now because 9 times out of 10 you don't want to miss any of the match. At least that's how I feel
