Backstory: WCW in 2000 was a haven for very funny backstage promos, and this was one of the funniest. Jimmy Baron is the duschbag who did the WCW Road Reports each week, and each week was the same lead-in where he had lost his cell phone.

Well, Russo obviously wasn't a fan of it either, as this appeared the July 19th Thunder.

Jimmy Baron is in the back at a pay phone.

Baron: "It's time for the Road Report and I forgot my cell phone."

The Perfect Event come in.

Chuck: "Dude, it's imperative you use 1-800-Call-ATT."

Jimmy: "You're right."

The Road Report then comes on like normal.

Baron: "Thanks guys. Mission accomplished thanks to 1-800-Call-ATT."

Stasiak: "Dude, take mine. But I never want to hear that you lost your call phone again. It's getting old."

Palumbo: "Dude."

Perfect Event walk away, Kanyon then runs in and gives gives Barton a Kanyon Cutter!

That promo = GOLD

Wish I could, but I pulled that from an old Thunder report I wrote for DDT Digest.

Once I have the time, though, I'm definetly going to buy all the Nitros and Thunders from mid-late 2000 and do something like this.

You wrote for DDT Digest?! ::marks out::

When there was still a WCW, I went to DDT Digest, like, constantly. I'd just sit there and relax, reading old reports. Such a great freakin' website...

Anyway, that has got to be the funniest thing that I never got to see. I'll have to buy that Thunder on tape.

EDIT: OMG GREG~!

I absolutely loved that segment with Kanyon. It's second only to Kevin Nash being thrown through a wall by The Giant and Scott Hall in my all-time list.

Thankfully, sites like DDTDigest and ScoopThis still love on through their archives...

Seriously, "The Downfall of WCW...in pictures" is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

I'm literally crying in laughter, about a 1/8 of the way through all of these pictures.

Ok, seriously that is funny. It's just random stuff like Mike Tenay wearing nothing but a tie and boxers commentating to Ric Flair in a nut house wearing his wrestling robe that makes me wish WCW was around just to laugh my ass off at.

That is actually Scott Hudson with the tie.

So much of that stuff had been erased from my memory banks.

And what was going on here again? The supposed Nazi-loving Harris brothers

as bodyguards for the Mexicans? Hahaha.

That was the angle, where "The Powers That Be" booked six cruiserweigts in a "Pinata on a Pole" match. I don't recall who was actually in the match, but when "Dr. Death" Steve Williams ran in to wipe them out, he legit injured three of the cruisers.

This was during the god-awful "Oklahoma" gimmick booker Ed Ferrera played in WCW.

I missed a lot of WCW towards their last few years.. Can someone fill me in on who these guys were?

Uh... Well, I found the reports that those pictures are from!

#1: http://www.ddtdigest.com/updates/1998034s.htm

#2 is from the same report; it's Hardbody Harrison.

#3 is from http://www.ddtdigest.com/updates/1998052t.htm ... Check it out:

Some dude representing Ruper, an animated character in Quest For Camelot, comes out to give out t-shirts. Geez, he really looks like the Undertaker. He's acting real tough, but as the camera's about to cut away, you see him about to hand a t-shirt to someone and ask really politely "Want one?". It's pretty comical because he totally breaks character.

I believe Mike Tenay owns WCW in terms of just being funny and not meaning too.

For example, I think it was either 1997 or 1998 he introduced Hollywood Hogan's entrance music as 'Voodoo Chile', actually pronouncing it 'Voodoo Chilly'.

I died. Tenay is SO bob barron it's not funny.

Spring Stampede 1998... I don't know why I remember the exact event where he said that, but I do.

Would that have been the Thunder episode where anytime they went backstage or showed the outside of the arena Kanyon would Kanyon Cutter someone? That was some quality shit, he just ran in to picture, cut some poor sap, yelled BANG! and swiftly rn out of picture again.

That was the highpoint for Chris Kanyon IMO.

A lot of the pictures in this thread were taken by me when I wrote for DDT Digest in 2000. I did the Summer Thunder reports, and well, let's just say I've improved in my writing quite a bit since then.

The Power Company aren't The Shane Twins, but they do suck a lot.

This thread just reminds of all the bad things WCW did.

But yes, the couple Thunders where Kanyon was Kanyon Cutting every were fucking great. Also, on one of those Thunders, Sanders did his "redebut" after the disbandment of The Reenforcers. This episode saw him get a guitar broke over his head by Jarrett, wake up ten minutes later and get hit by a chair from Daffney, then wake up again and promptly be Kanyon Cuttered.

Russo = Awesome when it came to this shit.
