Sometimes, that can be a pretty big assumption. Why stick someone, who didn't care about hurting an animal in the first place, with a bunch of animals that are going to be shitting and pissing everywhere, and maybe biting him? It's fuzzy logic to me. Throw him in juvie until he's of age, then put him in prison for some time after.

 

If someone turned their back on the pill junkie, yoink, a bottle of percocet or what have you comes up missing. Old George down at the animal shelter goes to take a shit, and the kid whacks a Chow pup or two with a mop.

What does giving him a fine do? Nothing. His parents will pay for it, and nothing will happen to him. Send him away for a year, minimum, and 7 years of psychotherapy, till he is 21, and a lot of community service. Fuck that kid, he knew what he was doing.

Exactly. All mammals are animals, including humans. Cats aren't as advanced as humans but they (and every living thing) deserve respect. Who knows, when humans are long gone they may still be around. This kid needs to learn what it's like to be on the lower rung of the food chain. I say someone should beat him and throw him to a tiger.

CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- A teen has been sentenced to counseling, community service and up to five years of probation for beating a neighbor's cat and feeding it to an alligator.

 

Andrew J. Castor, 14, had pleaded no contest to an animal cruelty charge for the May 2002 incident.

 

Castor told police he stole the cat from a neighbor's yard, kicked it in the head and stomach and fed it to an alligator in a nearby canal - saying it was because he wanted to see what the gator would do.

 

Circuit Judge Margaret O. Steinbeck on Tuesday declined to spare the teen a criminal record by withholding adjudication "due to the serious nature of this offense."

 

Steinbeck told Castor to continue psychiatric treatment and to stay on his medication. She also ordered him to perform 30 hours of community service and have no contact with the cat's owner and her family.

 

"Why he picked on us, I'll never know," said Aurea Maldonado, 48, owner of the cat named Homeboy. "We never did nothing to him. My cat never did nothing to him."

 

Attorney Mary Beth Fletcher said the probation would last until her client turned 19.

 

"It's pretty intense probation," she said. "The Department of Juvenile Justice will see to it that he will be monitored three times a week basically. If he violates his probation, he will be going into a program, no doubt about it."
