Wow! I was positive the Matrix would beat Spider-Man. What happened? The first day figures were fucking amazing, especially for an R-rated movie.

Daddy Day Care beating X-Men = Retarded.

Heh...

I told folks that " Daddy Day Care " wouldn't drop by much.

Good word of mouth, and obviously little children don't know much about " The One "

The same audience that saw X-Men went to see Matrix, so that makes sense.

It fucked itself by opening on a Thursday.

The Matrix posted the highest 4 day number in history, beating Spider Man's Friday-Monday total by 10 million.

Why are you bashing " Daddy Day Care " ?

You haven't seen it.

Matrix > Spiderman

Well at least Spider-Man was an official motion picture based on a comic book rather then a film that simply ripped one off.

I was bored stupid by TMR.

Matrix and X2 are the same types of movies thus the alternative to those makes good money.

Unfortunaly Daddy Day Care drew the "looking for an alternative" crowd instead of Down With Love.

Well of course it would beat it in that case.

Keep in mind that Spider-Man opened on one of the top two weekends for films in the year (the other is Thanksgiving). The Matrix's numbers are extremely impressive. All I hope is that this convinces studios not to dumb down their films to get a PG-13 rating anymore (Fox, I'm looking at you).

Matrix > Spidey

And that's coming from me, people. I hope Revolutions does even better.

There's very little that is truly original nowadays.

I saw the trailer....that's enough.

Dude, don't say that. According to people around here you shouldn't judge a movie by it's trailer.

Why not? Let's compare...

X2...not only an interesting story, but some awesome special effects. Daddy Day Care....a story about a day care, with the usual, same-old, same-old jokes.

X2....Hugh Jackman, Aaron Stanford, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, etc etc. Daddy Day Care...Eddie Murphy, and, uh...some other people.

X2....black leather and pajama pants~! Daddy Day Care....normal clothes and, um, vegetable outfits.

X2....ultra-cool. Daddy Day Care....ultra-dumb.

Yuna Firerose...ultra-dumb.

And yes, even though it's not perfect and failed to live up to my own personal expectations...

the Matrix > Spiderman and I'm sure it will surpass the money it made, actually it already has a bigger actual opening but people keep putting qualifiers like 3-day gross, 4-day this and that, and what actually qualifies as a weekend. Plain and simple, over a three-day time period (regardless of which 3 days they were) more people went to see the Matrix then went to see Spidey when it opened.

Bzzzt.

Over Thursday, Friday, and Saturday Matrix made $108 million. Spider-Man made $115 million it's first 3 days.

And, IMO, Spider-Man > Matrix Reloaded

Since it seems fashionable to compare the two...

Matrix Reloaded > Spider-Man.

I gave them both the same rating when I reviewed them (8.5/10), but Spider-Man doesn't stand up to multiple viewings that well. After about three, it's just not the same. I could watch the original Matrix once a week for life and not tire of it, and I get the feeling Reloaded will be the same way.

Btw, TMR has the record for biggest opening weekend by an R-rated movie, obliterating the old record held by "Hannibal."

(TMR > Hannibal, btw)

In Matrix vs. Spider-Man...

Spider-Man = Matrix

Spider-Man is better in terms of first impressions, but Matrix will probably hold up better on repeat viewings.

I'm just a Spidey mark so I jumped for joy at it beating Matrix.

And about Daddy Day-Care... Don't judge it on its trailer... Judge it on the fact that it has a 31% rating on RottenTomatos.com. But I shouldn't talk, because I haven't seen it and it really isn't intended for my age demographic anyway.
