Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted May 23, 2003 So on Raw they did the deal where you got to go on-line and vote on who you think hit Goldberg. In those WWE surveys a month back there was a question about whether or not the WWE should be interactive, like American Idol and such. So what does everybody think? Good, Bad, Indifferent? If you answered the question in the survey did you vote yes or no (or whatever the choices were)? Do you see potential in the concept? Do you see the WWE handling this well? Is "who hit goldberg" the best way to use it? If not, what would be some other ways? And of course, how long will it last? RRR - Creating a thread for the first time in... *checks calendar* fuck-many months.

Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted May 23, 2003 Ok, back to subject... Using the Internet = Good. Dispite the negative nature of the internet towards the WWE, I feel that in the long term getting more fans on-line is a good thing for the company. The way I see it is that the more fans talk about it, the more aware of it they will be. It makes watching wrestling an active, rather than passive, experience and therefore it's harder to let go of and stop watching. Using Polls = MMMMMIDUNNO In some ways it's good to guage the reaction from the fans using polls because it allows for direct feedback. In other ways it's bad because it really depends on the selection and storyline and you never really know who exactly is voting. "Who hit Goldberg" = BAD I'm sorry, but this is just silly. People voted for the Rock? Did I hear right? C'mon, that's just bad. ----------------------- Use the Internet. Despite popular belief, the Internet is NOT the enemy. In my view - the internet fan is the most caring fan the WWF has (with the exception to the 'mega-fan' - the one who travels thousands of miles to see a show but doesn't know Billy Gunns real name... They are just whackos ). After all, the 'typical' Internet fan may write negative things about the WWF - but you can't say that that fan doesn't CARE (why else would he/she dedicate that much of their time to a particular subject if they didn't care about it?). The 'bad' fans are the ones who are apathetic to the WWF product. So what better way to get that fan interested in the WWF than getting them on the Internet? A place where you have thousands - if not millions - of fans sharing their views on the same subject. If the Consumers are isolated by the mainstream, the Internet allows for those isolated fans to gather where they no longer are alone. From that they can take pride in being a wrestling fan. Will the Internet expose some of the 'seedier' aspects of the business? Sure. But I believe it was Maxx Payne who said that the next evolution of the business is opening the curtain to the fan - revealing the secret so that fans can enjoy wrestling on a different level - not like fans of magic - but as fans of film. Have a WWF message board - a WWF chat (a REAL WWF chat) where wrestlers can communicate with the fans (what a better way to attract non-internet fans than by allowing them to talk to their favourite wrestler), just generally pimp the website on-air. The WWF keeps the Internet at arms length, thinking that it's against them, when in reality it is one of their most powerful tools.
Guest JRE Report post Posted May 23, 2003 Well...to answer the question, if it just takes about 10 seconds of air time (just advertise the poll with a ticker across the bottom of the screen...and the results briefly) and if they DON'T let it "decide matches" like WCW rigged up one time...then it's fine. If it's just a little gimmick to show fans opinions that's shown briefly on TV, it's cool. If JR and King are going to talk about the damn thing twice every match...then it's just annoying. Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted May 23, 2003 I don't think the Interactive Raw or any extra use of the internet would be a good idea at this point in time, because of their apparent complete disdain for anyone who comes online. Even though their website is visited by mostly marks I would imagine. If they were going to be committed to not rigging the polls to their likings or censoring their wrestlers in chat room to the point where we heard anything other than "Vince is a genius, HHH is the best in the business today, and the locker room is great" I think it may work. But I don't see them doing that because there would be too much risk of the fans disagreeing with Vince and that can't happen. I don't like the idea of a half-assed online experience because it will just spoil the future opportunities for a completely open, truly interactive experience. Guest Coffey Report post Posted May 23, 2003 I'd rather the WWE go back to a rating system than giving the fans interactive options. I mean, who is the number one contender? Ok then, who is fourth? If they fourth contender beats the second contender does he move up to second or third?
Guest iamsherm Report post Posted May 23, 2003 I like the idea of WWE television going interactive. I don't think, however, that text messaging and online polls are the answer. I, for one, am not inclined to pay 10 cents a message on my cell phone, call a 900 number giving my thoughts on some random match, or leave my TV during RAW to vote in some meaningless poll. I think the "brains" (I use that term loosely these days) at WWE need to come up with something more cutting edge, something never been done before on television. What that something is? I don't know. I'm not that creative.
Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted May 23, 2003 I'd rather the WWE go back to a rating system than giving the fans interactive options. I mean, who is the number one contender? Ok then, who is fourth? If they fourth contender beats the second contender does he move up to second or third? If they're gonna imitate WCW, then bring out the WCW TOP TEN out of mothballs. That'll show us the rankings and we'll be able to notice who is on a streak, and so forth.
Guest Blackston Report post Posted May 23, 2003 Didn't WCW go with an interactive system back in the day for WCW Saturday Night? I seem to remember there being a "red" and a "blue" lockerroom, filled with faces and heels respectively, and maybe the payoff being a Sting v. Flair match or something along those lines. I know ECW did something like this, when they had fans pick the challenger for either Raven's or Douglas's title... The Sandman and Pitbull #2 supposedly tied, so they had a three way dance. I'm sort of apathetic towards this idea. I mean, it is hard enough for the WWE to logically have their storylines proceed at a reasonable pace... Putting one or two segments that are actually dictated by the fans on a week could hamper their efforts to promote their product sucessfully... Though, on the other hand, the WWE would get a better gauge about who fans care for in the company.

Guest OnlyMe Report post Posted May 23, 2003 People need to think they made a difference. Look at all those people that voted for the Rock, then it turned out to be Lance Storm. What a let down that was... What they should do is something like "who do you want HHH to defend the title against tonight?" That way, you've got an angle of HHH being pissed about not knowing who he's fighting, plus the surprise main event. People also feel they are making a difference.. Guest Goodear Report post Posted May 23, 2003 You know...they should take open phone calls instead of running commentary during their broadcasts. THAT would be compelling television. OH GOOD GOD NO! They took calls during one of their B shows at some point and they all sucked horribly. And not because only dumb marks got through, but because no one gives a damn about what Dan from Virginia has to say about anything. Worst idea ever... EVER. There's been some ridiculous things in wrestling, this was one of them. Not just Wallstreet...the rankings. Almost as bad as when the US Champion was 'automatically the number one contender'. When was the last time you saw US vs HV Champion on the PPV's?
Guest oldschoolwrestling Report post Posted May 23, 2003 After every match/skit they should ask the fans to rate it. What did you think of the last match: Good - 12% Average - 14% Sucked donkey's dick - 74%
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted May 23, 2003 Yeah..and we all know that the WWE doesn't rig the polls on their website already. I mean... JR: Tonight we are going to let you the fans decide who wrestles in the main event by voting at "WWE.com"! Lawler: This is gonna be exciting! Vote for me vs Trish! Me vs Trish! Several match options are shown on the screen, including Lawler vs Trish, and a peculiar HHH vs Kevin Nash 30 minute Iron Man match among others.. Later on in the show.. JR: The votes have been counted, and it looks like you the fans want to see HHH vs Kevin Nash in an Iron Man Match..a distant second was Lawler vs Trish, and in last place was some match involving RVD. Lawler: I almost won! Nash and HHH wrestle the Iron Man match, and by the end no one is left in the arena.
