Guest Mattdotcom Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 I saw a picture of this in one of my mother's trashy magazines (I think it was the Star) a few weeks back and knew I had to start a thread. Garfield was a childhood favorite of mine (cartoons, comics, fruit snacks, phones, etc.) and obviously one poster at least likes him (referring to a signature) AND it stars Jennifer Love Hewitt. Someone here's obsessed with her, too. Now prepare to get hit with a ton of bricks. Plot Outline: In this CGI film of the classic comic book cat known as Garfield, Garfields life is great. He eats, and sleeps, and thats all. Now, his owner, Jon Arbuckle, just got a lovable pooch named Odie. Garfield's life spirals out of control now that Odie is in the same household as him. One night, Odie is kidnapped, and Garfield feels that he is the blame for what happened. Garfield sets off to find the crook, and get Odie back. This sounds simple and childish. But Joel Cohen, who was one of the writers of Toy Story wrote the screenplay, so there's a glimmer of hope. Now, when it says "CGI film", don't think it's 100% CGI. Only Garfield is CGI. Odie is a real dog (looks like Eddie on Frasier) and all the humans are real. Breckin Meyer plays Jon and Jennifer Love Hewitt is the vet from the cartoon, Dr. Liz Wilson. And on the subject of actors, Garfield needs a voice. the actor from the cartoon, Lorenzo Music, passed away some time ago. Someone like Bill Murray could pull it off. I'm pretty undecided on this one. It could go either way. Garfield's a great character, but in a 90-minute live action movie? Discuss.
Guest Renegade Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 It will probably suck, Garfield should not be a live movie.
PsychoDriver Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 Big fan of Garfield... but that sounds like utter crap. (But it'd be worth it, if it gets them to release some Garfield cartoons on DVD in some sort of cross promotional thing)
Guest Kingpk Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 *Dangit, wanted the first reply* I'd actually be pretty wary of this if Cohen wasn't writing, since Breken Meyer didn't exactly light the world on fire on Inside Schwartz (just BAD, but maybe that's because the whole concept was REAL shitty) and I even I'LL admit JLH isn't the Greatest Actress of Our Generation. We'll see. Didn't the cartoon voice of Garfield die, though? That will REALLY hurt it for me.
Guest WrestlingDeacon Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 That actually sounds stupid and I think I've grown so use to Lorenzo Music as the voice of Garfield that no other would do for me. The cartoon series and specials are all top notch and should really get the DVD treatment as mentioned above. Scooby-Doo was a critical bomb, but made a good bit of among in the kiddie set and this just seems like the same deal.
Guest El Satanico Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 Doesn't bother me, but i hate Garfield. Ok...I have no clue why I even clicked on this since I don't like the cat.
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 I wouldn't mind if it wasn't cgi, but that just sounds like a mistake.
Guest Kingpk Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 Actually, a fully animated version wouldn't be that bad I think. I really like John B. Davis' style.

Guest Kingpk Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 Guess I missed that. Sorry. But I agree that Murray could be a good choice to replace him.
Guest Polish_Rifle Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 If it's anything like Scooby Doo then it will definitely suck.
Guest Mattdotcom Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 No problem, King. Plus, if you get Murray, it comes full circle: Murray plays Peter Venkman in Ghostbuster- Music voices Venkman in The Real Ghostbusters- Murray voices Garfield.
Guest SP-1 Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 Dave Coolier could do it too. He also voiced Venkman and could pull off a somewhat similar style, I think.
Guest Kingpk Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 Coulier also did some other cartoon characters, I believe. Besides, it's not like he's swamped with work nowadays. As an aside: THANK GOD JLH is out of her "Mini-Meredith Brooks" phase. That was probably the least attractive she's ever been. Give me HeartBreakers JLH (a good movie, I SWEAR. It's got Sigourney Weaver, Ray Liotta AND Gene Hackman in it!!) any day.
Guest wwF1587 Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 NOOO!! Basturds!!! You can not ruin garfield like this... FUCK
Guest evenflowDDT Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 I used to like the "Garfield" cartoon series as a kid, but the strip hasn't been funny in years, and trying to push that for 90 minutes would be the most painful stretch this side of childbirth.
The Dames Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 First off, I like Breckin Meyer. Not a Garfield fan, don't care. But you ALL know that I'm seeing this movie. And I don't even have to say why. Dames
Guest MrRant Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 I'm sure you do. Poor, lonely Dames. We should all pitch in and send him a fruit basket.
Guest MrRant Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 So... are you saying you have a woman? Are you saying.... that someone is feeling the Latino Thunder? Are you saying you left your ATM card in ANOTHER machine?
The Dames Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 So... are you saying you have a woman? Are you saying.... that someone is feeling the Latino Thunder? Are you saying you left your ATM card in ANOTHER machine? Not exactly. Hard to explain. Rather not. Someone is ALWAYS feeling the Latino Thunder. NO. I learned my lesson on that one. I saw that girl again once by chance by the way. I'm actually glad that date fucked up the way it did. Dames
Guest MrRant Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 Well if you include your right hand then yes someone is always feeling Latino Thunder. Are you ashamed of your woman? Is it an affair? Are you adding some Latin spice to her bland white bread world?
The Dames Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 Rant, woman or not, my hand always feels the Latino Thunder. My man seed must be released daily. That is all. Dames
