Guest Nevermortal Posted May 31, 2003 Report Posted May 31, 2003 Which UFC was it where Tank got his ass handed to him in like 2:00? I think it was versus Frye, but i'm probably wrong. Oleg Taktarov ruled! Yes, yes he did. He was great in that movie 15 Minutes as well. Is that a tattoo on the back of Silva's head?
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted May 31, 2003 Report Posted May 31, 2003 Yes. I liked Oleg in 15 minutes as well. Tank got his ass handed to him a lot. vs. belfort, vs. smith, vs rizzo
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Posted May 31, 2003 Report Posted May 31, 2003 This fight is nowhere NEAR as bad as Shamrock vs. Gracie's "Superfight." It was 20 minutes in the guard!
Guest Jimmy Saint Posted May 31, 2003 Report Posted May 31, 2003 It could be almost any Tank lost he got owned a few times. The Frye loss is one of my favourite MMA fights even if it is really short. Frye gets knocked down of a Tank jab early and gets up to fight back and get the choke. Saying that when Pedro fucked him up in Brazil and when Vitor taught him a stand up lesson are to of my favourites as well.

Guest Army Eye Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 I am guessing no, but is that Shamrock/Severn Super Bout typical at all? It's one of the two or three most ATYPICAL matches ever. There has not been a fight in any way like that in years. Unfortunately you found the Undertaker/Giant Gonzales of MMA.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 just checked www.ufc.tv His UFC/MMA record is 8-8 Tank's not a great fighter, and if he hadn't steamrolled over bums in his beginning he wouldn't even have that good of a record. The current field is too good for Abbot. They just wanted a bad boy gimmick and he gave it to them.
Guest Mr. Adam Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 This fight is nowhere NEAR as bad as Shamrock vs. Gracie's "Superfight." It was 20 minutes in the guard! Sweet jesus, I remember that! The best thing about it was the commentators trying to condemn the fans for booing because "This really is a human game of chess here." LAME!
Guest tank_abbott Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 Has Tank fought outside of the UFC? Oh and the reason I like Tank is his egotisical promos, example: after he lost to one of his opponents, the interview asks: "Tank you have to admit you respect Don Frye(?) now right?" Tank: "HELL No, I don't respect Frye and I sure as hell don't respect YOU!" or after the standing tap out vs Maurice Smith "I don't care whether I win or lose, I like to fight, and I got to fight so I'm happy" (Tank was way outta shape for that Match as he signed for it only 6 days prior to the PPV after Coleman and Severn backed out with injuries) Tank takes a few swings, Maurice fends him off and 3 or 4 mins in (IF that long) Smith smacks him in the high ankle area with 3 hard kicks in a row...Tank calls Big John over and quits... I laughed my kiester off!
Guest tank_abbott Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 BTW is that the only "standing tap out" in UFC history? I can't recall any others... Another Tank gem: At one show he tried tossing his opponent over the top of the octagon!
Guest Jimmy Saint Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 Oh and the reason I like Tank is his egotisical promos, example: after he lost to one of his opponents, the interview asks: "Tank you have to admit you respect Don Frye(?) now right?" Tank: "HELL No, I don't respect Frye and I sure as hell don't respect YOU!" Yeah thats why I used to like Tank. Well like to cheer for the guy he is fighting ala Baroni more than anything. Its pretty tired now all his schtick. Coming out with the old "well he can meet me in the bar later" after Frank Mir subbed him in about 10 seconds without Tank even landing a blow ended up sounding pathetic. If he beats Kimo which is likely they should throw Cabbage at him. Cabbage could be the new Tank, he is tougher, alot more skillfull at avoiding the takedown, calm under pressure and although fat looking has pretty good cardio. I'd pick him to destroy Tank in one round.
Guest tank_abbott Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 Tank vs Kimo??? When is this taking place?
Guest tank_abbott Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 Tank vs Kimo??? When is this taking place?
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 Yeah UFC/PRIDEFC PPV thread Cabbage scares the shit outta me. It's like, if you look into his eyes you see nothing... NOTHING... No soul at all. I was watching UFC 10 last night to get refreshed on the Coleman/Frye situation and between fight and fight commentary is hilarious.
Guest eiker_ir Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 Coleman beat the shit out of Frye at UFC 10 right?
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 Right. I still think Frye is going to win the rematch though. He was piss tired after his fight with Brian Johnston, and spent 9 minutes destorying Mark Halls ribcage in the first round. Coleman had it pretty easy. Plus, Frye was a stick back then - now he is huge.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 Isn't Frye something like 9-1 in UFC? Little dude whooped that ass.
Guest Army Eye Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 Yeah, for many years, Coleman was his only career loss. So Frye wants revenge bad.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 He only has 1 defeat in the UFC, he won 2 tournaments (UFC 8 and UltimateUltimate)and a singles (UFC 9), plus was runner-up at UFC X. So 9 sounds about right. (3 fights per tournament)
Guest Eric the Eagle Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 BTW is that the only "standing tap out" in UFC history? I can't recall any others... UFC 2 had someone tap out while in a standing headlock\neckcrank thing. Sorry if that sounded vague - saw it at a friends' place years ago.
Guest Evil Ash Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 What was the deal with Kerr? They gave him mad props for 2-3 tourneys, and then It seems he falls off the face of the UFC Earth.... Money Problems? Kerr's problems are well documented. You should look into getting the documentary on him. Basically, he went to Japan for more money and got exposed. He lost via illegal knees to Igor Vovchinchin, and after that got hooked on pain killers and became a shell of his former self. Recently he lost in the Abu Dhabi Submission Fighting contest against Ricardo Arona. BTW is that the only "standing tap out" in UFC history? I can't recall any others... Off the top of my head, Gary Goodridge broke some huge native guy's nose, and that dude tapped out on his feet. That's all I can think of, though.
Guest tank_abbott Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 Kerr's problems are well documented. You should look into getting the documentary on him. What's it called? BTW...I sort of recall those other "standing tap outs" now... I do have them all on tape in my room... I guess my Tank love made his the only "memorable" one off the top of my head...
LooseCannon25 Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 There was a special on him on HBO which i believe was very well done. As a matter of fact i think i saw it like 4 times it was so good. It's called "Smashing Machine" Believe me you will HATE his girlfriend when you watch this. She just seems like a selfish bitch. Anyway, I heard Kerr at his last fight Abu Dhabi was completely different looking in his physique. He supposedly has almost no muscle mass left. Is this true does anyone know?

I wouldn't have recognized him.
Agent_Bond34 Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 Have any of you even seen this bout, and if so, what did you think of it? I rented it in late 2001, and thought it sucked. Not enough action, slow pace. Just plain boring.
