Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted June 4, 2003 Alien and Aliens are DYING for commentary. I'm not sure if one will be included in the upcoming re-release box-set, but I know there is an upcoming re-release box-set (following the theatrical release...SCIZZORE~!). Now, then, for my DVD geek prowess... The Hills Have Eyes - Anchor Bay special edition release coming later this year (I want to say November, but it could be as early as August). If... - nothing scheduled that I'm aware of. Personally I was disappointed by the film, but as a Malcolm McDowell fan I can see how it's deserving of a release. Made in Britain - I've actually never heard of this one...hmmmm...what's it about? Orgazmo - I'm pretty sure there's a special edition coming down the pipeline. Friday the 13th - an uncut version was just released in R3, and I want to say an R2 special edition is either already released or forthcoming, but I can't remember for sure. As for R1, Paramount DVDs = suck. Always have, always will. I don't know anything about any of the other films in the series, but I wish New Line had the rights to the rest of the series since they did such a good job with Jason Goes to Hell and Jason X... Dawn of the Dead - Anchor Bay's going to put out the "definitive edition", as eiker mentioned...but who knows when. There are several European releases (there was a time where it seemed every new horror label in Europe released either Dawn of the Dead or Zombie ), including one R0 PAL with both Romero's directors cut and Argento's Zombi European cut that became fairly well-known in its own right. eXistenZ - The Canadian release is supposed to have a lot of features lacking on the American release. And Canada's still R1. The same goes for Ginger Snaps, btw. Dead Ringers - I recently bought Criterion's DVD on eBay and it's worth every penny. Unfortunately, the rights went back to Fox-Lorber (I believe), but I don't think they're doing anything with it...even if it did, it'd just be barebones like most of their other releases. Ed Wood - Recently delayed because Tim Burton himself intervened so that more extras could be compiled and put together. I'm personally awaiting this one, though it looks like it could be a while. ...and that's all I know that hasn't been mentioned in this thread already. You all know my say in these threads. I would've said Night & Fog and The Killer Snakes, but wouldn't you know it...Criterion and Celestial Pictures (R3) heard my calls. I also saw clips from the documentary Silverlake Life in class recently, and am pleased to learn of an upcoming release of that as well. I agree with gtd (I find myself doing that more and more recently as I see more films and become a "better" film student...coincidence?) that MGM needs to swallow their pride, call up Criterion, and license every extra from their laserdisc release and put that sucker back in print. MGM also dropped the ball with their Midnite Movie release of Reptilicus, as apparently they turned down offers of bonus materials from the director himself. Wow. Every now and then there's a random title I see where I think "Hmmm, that sounds interesting, they should put that on DVD." I really should make a lit of these things, since one day I'd like to start/run my own DVD label in the vein of a Blue Underground or Synapse Films. Kinda low-key, with the freedom to put out whatever independent and cult releases I could snatch up. You know, because the rights for those are cheaper and probably more readily available. Guest ShamRock Report post Posted June 5, 2003 The Shawshank Redemption The version that's currently out, fuckin' sucks. No commentary, no behind the scenes, just filmographies.
Guest raptor Report post Posted June 5, 2003 Scarface is out of print. I think that warrants a whole new Special Edition DVD.
Guest Si82 Report post Posted June 5, 2003 Ghostbusters II It's barebones. BAREBONES. It's like none of the cast or crew wants anything to do with the movie. Fuck, I think both of them should be released again. Perhaps as some sort of stacked set? Is that commentary on GB1 pretty good? I hear it's done like Myster Science Theater or something. I was just thinking the same thing the other day. The first one is a great, with some good extras, and the commentary is probably one of my favourites. I just wish that they would get a special edition of the second one out before I have to go and buy a barebones one.

Guest Crucifixio Jones Report post Posted June 6, 2003 Basically all of Scorsese's movies need to be re-done. Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Mean Streets, Casino, King of Comedy, etc. all SUCK on DVD. The upcoming Gangs of New York is the first Marty DVD I can think of where they even attempted to give the buyer something extra. I take that back...Criterion did put out The Last Temptation of Christ.

Movies that I would like to see put on DVD are The Stuff Time Bandits Dead Alive If they are on DVD I have no idea but these movies all kick major ass. B-rated movies rule. Time Bandits, if I'm correct, has been released by both Anchor Bay and Criterion. I own the Anchor Bay release, but I haven't watched it in over a year. -Ben
