Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted June 3, 2003 I haven't looked at the list, but I would guess Nurse Ratched would place high for the villains. Gene Hackman's character from Unforgiven would be up there if I was picking. Gene Hackman's cool.
Guest WrestlingDeacon Report post Posted June 3, 2003 Yeah, Downhome got it right on the Bambi front, in the world of the film he's a big villain. It would be like if somebody came into your home and shot your mother and then burned the house down. It's all about the context of the story. Like Billy the Kid is technically a villain, but he's usually portrayed as a hero.

Gene Hackman's character from Unforgiven would be up there if I was picking. Gene Hackman's cool. The great thing about Hackman's character was that he wasn't a villain, really. He was just doing what he feels is right. He could've been the hero in another movie.
Toshiaki Koala 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2003 I've missed all the other AFI specials (didn't know they were on), but I'll definitely be watching this. They'll probably give the top villain spot to Captain Bligh, The Wicked Witch, or Norman Bates. Heroes, I don't know, maybe Rick from Casablanca. If Harry Powell (Robert Mitchum in The Night of the Hunter) places number one on the villains list, it will be a mark-out moment akin to Benoit winning the title. He at least had better make the top 10, or I will be mighty pissed. What should their next list be? It seems there's nothing left to do, except maybe the 100 greatest death scenes or something like that. They would never do this, as they're trying to get people to watch the movies on the lists, but "100 Bombs" (the 100 worst movies ever) would be pretty funny. My hopes are still low especially since I can damn near guarantee Lecter wins best villain(not that I really disagree with this, just saying). And for best hero, IMO, John McClane should win but some John Wayne character or Indiana Jones will win. BTW was The Man With No Name(Clint Eastwood) nominated? Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted June 3, 2003 I'm guessing that Darth Vader will be the #1. Villain on the list. Not going out on a limb but these things are pretty predictable.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted June 3, 2003 Well it's on now. Who's watching it?
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2003 BULLSHIT! I'm giving up on this list already. Verbal Kint at 48? Unless they're counting Keyzer Soze as a different number this sucks.
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2003 Hans Gruber 46? Goldfinger 49? This keeps getting worse and worse.
Guest WrestlingDeacon Report post Posted June 4, 2003 I'm watching it and I think having Rooster Cogburn and Harry Lime so low sucks. With the AFI the way it is you should be happy that Gruber and Kint even made the list. I could see Goldfinger being higher, but he's not even the best Bond villain overall which in the films would be Dr. No or Blofeld.
Guest WrestlingDeacon Report post Posted June 4, 2003 Ok, Erin Brockovich shouldn't be on the damn list.

TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2003 How in the hell is Bickle a villain?!?! And what's Erin Brockovich doing on the list? Man With the Golden Gun is the best Bond villain(I forget his name), but because Golfinger is the most "renowned" Bond movie Goldfinger will be the only one ranked. And why is Serpico only number 40? God I got a lot of ocmplaints about this list.
Guest WrestlingDeacon Report post Posted June 4, 2003 Scaramanga was Christopher Lee with the superfluorous third nipple and no way he's the best Bond villain, but then again I was never a fan of Man with a Golden Gun as I thought it was an ultra-cheesey quickie flick created by retarded howler monkeys, not as bad as Moonraker, but close. I think we need to see the whole list before we start bitching about why certain characters were so low, maybe better people did place higher. Patton and Harry Powell who are on now, see those are two pretty damn good characters.
Guest WrestlingDeacon Report post Posted June 4, 2003 Ok, martians? That's ridiculous.
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2003 Ok I'm not passing judgment till I see the whole list. But seeing Mitchum's preacher in Night of the Hunter get so low is extremely disappointing. Martians = dumb

Guest Downhome Report post Posted June 4, 2003 Obviously not everyone will agree on this list, so blah. I just love watching these things for the cool factor of seeing it, heh. Any predictions on the top two before they are annouced?
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2003 Villain: Lecter & Vader Hero: Indiana Jones & ???? Hero's is harder to predict.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted June 4, 2003 I wonder how high Norman will be.

Guest Downhome Report post Posted June 4, 2003 Wait for hero I just figured who's guaranteed top 5: Rocky Balboa. I wouldn't be so sure on that. I'll "mark out" if Norman was #1, heh.
