Guest BANKYWOOD Report post Posted June 3, 2003 Fuck, there goes the only interesting aspect of these wrestling shows for the past 4 months. Its such a cop-out to turn him face again then to work hard at him being a heel. Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, they get more out of their money by having the Rock act like an over-the-top arrogant prick than one that kisses the fans asses. Its truly disheartening that something as KOOOL as the Rock's heel turn had to be squashed in a meaningless segment that means JACKSHIT in the ultimate scheme of things. Keep him a fucking heel while he is gone, then re-evaluate his position when he gets back. Fucking typical.
Guest BoboBrazil Report post Posted June 3, 2003 It isn't like it matters. He won't be back for another 6 months anyway.
Guest Ray Report post Posted June 3, 2003 Isn't it obvious? Turned him face so more people will go see his movie. Really that simple I think.
Guest BANKYWOOD Report post Posted June 3, 2003 Isn't it obvious? Turned him face so more people will go see his movie. Really that simple I think. Why? Who cares. I'd bet he'd sell just as many tickets for his upcoming movie. I November, he can't come back as heel, it would be remarkably lame if it happened that way. I'd feel even more insulted if that is the case. Wrestling needs to go back to stronger characters, not this flimsy system of heel/face acts within weeks of one another. If he's heel, he stays heel for a decent amount of time. You don't turn him back to promote a movie.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2003 It's happened before...which is the problem. Rock's heel, and the people love him because he always seems to come up with soemthign fresh as a heel. Vince hears the pops and just HAS to turn him. Fans get bored of face Rock after a good few months, and eventually he goes off the boil. He goes off for a while, and eventually Vince has to turn him heel. Repeat ad nauseum till Rock retires for good. Vince knows Rock as face was his most successful venture money wise. The merchandise, the ticket sales, the movies and mainstream attention. So obviously he wants to recapture it. Trouble is, it won't work.
Guest Coffey Report post Posted June 3, 2003 The Rock is more entertaining as a heel, but makes more money as a face. Guess which one Vince, the owner of a business, prefers?
Guest Ray Report post Posted June 3, 2003 Who cares Vince McMahon obviously.

Garth 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2003 I hope to god no one is stupid enough to not go to one of his movies because he plays a heel character in WWE. *CoughMarksCough*
Guest Steve J. Rogers Report post Posted June 3, 2003 Who cares I've also heard Rock say in interviews that movie executives (who know little about wrestling) were worried about him being booed. Talk about a bunch of marks. What I object to though is JR and King's kiss-up job on the air like the last 4 months didn't happen. Usually when a face turn is being made they go "Love him or hate him you have to respect him" but they went right back to pre February levels of praising The Rock and making everyone he interacts with much lower than The Rock's level
Guest Goodear Report post Posted June 3, 2003 Seriously watching the show, there wasn't a whole lot of choice in the matter considering the reaction Rock got just stepping out of his car. Basically, The Rock is just too damn awesome to be booed anyway (which what I said when they turned him a heel in the first place).
LooseCannon25 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2003 I think he was turned Face by default. He gets waaaaay to many cheers when he's a heel, same thing with Austin in when he had no choice but to turn face in 97. With that being said i think Rock will come back as heel in 6 months or so when he returns.
Guest Hulkamania Fan Report post Posted June 3, 2003 Goodear you said The Rock is too damn awesome to be booed well your wrong. Do you remember Wrestlemania 18? When the awesome Rock went one on one with Hollywood Hulk Hogan and everyone were cheering Hogan over and over again. Give The Rock a few months then fans will get board with him and then Rock is heel again but then fans will cheer him again well soon fans will get board with the heel Rock & face Rock then thrie is nothing left for The Rock. A) He was against Hulk Hogan. B) They were at the Skydome. C) It was Hogan's first singles match, PPV match, and WRESTLEMANIA match in years. It wasn't Rocky's fault that he was booed, it was just one of those things where there is no way around it. As for Rocky turning face this past RAW, I don't think he turned. The last time I saw him, he was even playing his face character, it was nothing new.

No. He could have easily gone off on his heel rant once he got into the ring. The sight of him has alwasy gotten a pop, its how he directs the his attitude that dictates whether he is a face or not. He was sent out there with the idea of being a face. You can't say the fans did it, his previous heel shtick made the majority of people hate him.
Guest notJames Report post Posted June 3, 2003 And it's not like they could have changed the booking of the Hi-Lite Reel to compensate for Rock's sudden "change of heart" so quickly. This was a deliberate move by the writers and not some slapdash edit to cater to the whims of the fans.
Bored 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2003 Here's a simple idea for the next time Rock comes back (and not for a one time appearance) and that is book him as a tweener. He could play off the pro-Rock and anti-Rock fans, which we saw at one point last night when he made fun of the group of fans chanting "Rocky sucks".
