Guest bravesfan Report post Posted June 3, 2003 For the US-based games, go with the WCW vs. The World game, for sheer gameplay. I think Smackdown 2 was a decent game too, though.
Guest Breetai Report post Posted June 3, 2003 WCW Backstage Assault or Toukon Retsuden 3 You're trying to trick me! Does WCW vs. The World have a CAW system?
Guest bravesfan Report post Posted June 3, 2003 Does WCW vs. The World have a CAW system? Guest C-Bacon Report post Posted June 4, 2003 It may have had a a sub-par engine, but me and my friends had countless hours of fun playing Warzone and Attitude, consuming most of our summer around 5 years ago. Creating our own wrestler stables and having stable matches with crazy stipulations (losing wrestler has to dress in drag for a week or something) was a blast. THe original Smackdown! nearly rekindled that magic with season mode and title chases between us, but the loading time in Smackdown!2 was horrendous and there hasn't really been a game that we've enjoyed as much the acclaim games. Guest Ray Report post Posted June 4, 2003 I though SD2 was good when I first played it (despite the load times), but now looking back, it's pretty awful. I tried playing it a few months back, and I could barely stand it. I played WWF Warzone (I think) and WCW/nWo something and they were terrible. Hmmm....I didn't answer the question at all, did I? Guest Zero_Cool Report post Posted June 4, 2003 I enjoyed powermove...i mean, it had psychology in it that actually mattered as you got further along in the match. i remember making my brother tap to bearhugs all the time..it was great. Remembering all of this makes me tempted to go play SD1 again, just for all of the titles matches in season mode, and the ranking system, which rocked hardcore. WCW vs. The World is my favorite though. Crippling Hogan with Benoit's top rope powerbomb was fun in oh so many ways. However, I did happen to take Lex Luger and win every single belt...sorry, guys..I was a mark for Luger back in 97.
Guest cynicalprofit Report post Posted June 4, 2003 Avoid SD2 like the plague, not being able to skip guys fighting, which was legit just watching their health bars go down, has got to be THE MOST BORING THING ON THE PLANET! (WOW MARK HENRY vs GODFATHER, watch me not give a fuck repeatedly.)If i knew where my copy was, you could have it for free....the game SUCKS.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted June 4, 2003 I always liked the WCW vs the World game for the n64, although the Graphics were sort of horrid. I never played it for the playstation, although I did manage, regretfully, to play Thunder. PoS it was. I also just remembered playing In Your House. That game sucked too, although it was mildly amusing. Not near as much fun as the Wrestlemania Arcade game that the gameplay was similar too though.
Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted June 4, 2003 Smackdown 2 blowed, horrid loading times and the worst flow in any wrestling game I have ever seen. I agree...unplayable I feel. WCW vs. the World was a great game for its time--however, with the AKI games released since then, it looks kinda lame. The roster, unlockables, create-a-belt mode, tourney and other options made me stick with it for a long time, though. It's rather funny that Andre the Giant is in the game, but they try to pass him off as "The Giant" despite him looking like (with the fro, even), wrestling like, and being build like Andre. Well, it does kinda look like Big Show does now aside from the fro...but.. Thunder and Nitro = s***. Mayhem = eh. Warzone and Attitude were fine when they came out, but aged horribly. They share a slow and clunky engine that requires lots of time and effort to get into. Not a "pick up and play" game--requires memorization of all the moves. Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted June 4, 2003 I also just remembered playing In Your House. That game sucked too, although it was mildly amusing. Not near as much fun as the Wrestlemania Arcade game that the gameplay was similar too though. I don't count them as real "wrestling" games. I play and love Wrestlemania even to this day. In Your House was developed in-house by crapmeisters Acclaim, and sucked a fat one despite using basically the same engine. The animation, backgrounds, moves, and sprites are all horrible looking. Even the "super pins" look horrible and seemed to be added last minute. I only picked up In Your House (used for 5 bucks, BTW), for the comedy value, cool endings, and the 4-Player. However, you can't go wrong with Wrestlemania, but think of it more of an NBA Jam take on the genre rather than a sim like the AKI or recent THQ games. Guest kane3212321 Report post Posted June 5, 2003 I played WCW vs. The World the other night and that has aged horribly too. Very very very slow, compared to even LOW.
Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2003 PMPW was a direct import of Toukon Retsuden 1. I have TR2, with no way to play it now, since I don;t have a modded PS1 or PS2.. I used to have a cartridge that would plug into the back of an old PS1 and allow you to play burned or imported games, but I lost it...
Guest Ripper Report post Posted June 6, 2003 Or you could just get a N64 and no mercy for like 40 bucks and be done with it.
Guest MillenniumMan831 Report post Posted June 6, 2003 I actually enjoyed WCW Mayhem quite a bit. The characters looked nice. The flow was alright, IIRC. Plus, Bobby F'N Heenan did commentary. Every now and again, him and Schiavone would just go off on tangets about whatever in the game. The moves were a litle repetitive, but that's the case with many/all games. WCW vs. The World seems SssssLllllllOooooWwwww nowadays although it was GREAT back in the day. I remember my buddies and I marking out when we recognized Hawk, Muta, Hansen, ect. We didn't know most of the other Japanese guys, though. Warzone/Attitude are must miss nowadays. Nitro/Thunder are even worse! WM/IYH don't even count. I guess I'll go with Mayhem. Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted June 7, 2003 Mayhem's HUGE fault was the graphics and "feel" of the game. Every character's arms were angled so that they looked like a dog begging. It had a decent flow to it, as stated prior, and the actual use of their real entrance music was a nicely added touch. How is TR3 compared to TR1/Powermove? Also, re: Powermove Pro Wrestling - Which wrestlers in the game were based off of which real life wrestlers? I know Area51 is supposed to be Sting, and I'm thinking that Sparrow is supposed to be The Great Muta/Keiji Mutoh. But what about Agent Orange, Lance, The Commandant, and the others?
Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2003 If I am not mistaken, TR1's wrestlers were all based off several wrestlers off of the NJPW roster, with a couple of add-ons. Hell, when I used to play TR2 regularly, I always played Wild Pegasus/Chris Benoit, because everything in his moveset was there, from the rolling germans to the snap suplex to the swandive headbutt.... the dragon suplex was his finisher back then in his pre-Crossface days.... but by playing TR2 and then JBI, I could see that things had not advanced very far... hopefully there will be less generic-looking moves in HCTP, though I doubt it.... Speaking of speed, there was a major adjustment I had to make going from JBI, to SYM.... JBI was a faster game, while with SYM, you could think ahead a little more because things happened slower.
