I second both Clerks and Sports Night. Cupid also was a great show that met an untimely end.

I also nominate it's lead-in show, The New Fantasy Island. Malcom McDowell was awesome in this, but the axed it before it really found it's groove.

Yours truly was an extra in that show. It was filmed in our town, so I, along with many others in my neighborhood, made a background appearance on the pilot episode.

I don't know if it was unjust, but Brisco County Jr. and Nowhere Man (1995? conspiracy drama).

Obligatory:

Critic, Family Guy, Futurama, Mission Hill, Clerks.

Although I have no problem with it ending since it had been on a while, where is some Dr. Katz rerun love or some box sets?

Anyways. I really don't understand why everybody thinks Clerks: the Animated Series was a great show. I watched the dvd, and while I love Kevin Smith's work, the show was awful. I don't think the creators (or the ABC execs) knew how to write an animated show (Although the commentary was hilarious).

I have to agree.

I like Kevin Smith, I generally like his work, and Clerks is a favorite movie of mine. But I was watching episodes of Clerks on Comedy Central late nights, and I have to say....this show sucks ass.

It's just not good. I never watched it on ABC, because at the time I was taking night classes in college. I remember being disappointed that I never got to see many more than a couple episodes before it was cancelled. Now.....that disappointment isn't there.

I think any show of half ass decent quality which only recieves one season or less is cancelled too early. The second season is where a show should really get the ball rolling and hit it's stride and catch on. If it doesn't get a rating then, cancel it. I thought Smallville was pretty mediocre in it's first year but in the second year really took off got really good.

I agree with you there. The first season of Buffy The Vampire Slayer was just NOT good to me at all, but since it was given a second chance, it was able to flourish into the show that it did.

Smallville is a good example, but I am really getting annoyed by their cliffhanger season finales. This seasons wasn't NEARLY as bad as the "to be continued" at the end of Season 1, which will annoy me to my wits end when I get it on DVD. The second episode of Season 2 could have easily been the season premiere and they should have just made Smallville's Season 1 finale a two parter shown IN Season 1.

Why would anyone miss The Family Guy when it was just the Simpsons with a talking dog and baby. Not to say that Brian and Stewie didn't rule, but the writers spent wayyyyyyy too much time on Peter being a complete ass to try and make him Homer II.

I don't get the Family Guy love either. Except for the episode with Norm- I never really found any of the episodes to be that funny

Well if you didn't sit there looking for ways to call it a Simpson's rip off you would've liked it more.

Unlike the Simpson's, Family Guy didn't try to make statements and they weren't trying to make intelligent satire of current events. Family Guy's humor was based mainly on pop culture references, which is why I love the show. The only way they were similar to The Simpsons was being animated and having an idiot as an father.

I almost said MSCL, but was afraid for being made fun of... :)

Another one, i dunno if it was cancelled too soon or was given the shaft by FOX was Herman's Head. They moved it from it's cushy Sunday night slot and it fell off the face of the earth...

Someone said Briscoe County Jr. I have to disagree. Briscoe ran for 3 or 4 seasons, and by the end the premise was running thin.

You know Fox could start a separate network with all the good shows it cancelled.

Brisco only ran for 27 episodes. http://www.bruce-campbell.com/filmography/brisco.htm You may be thinking of another series. I also forgot to add Cleopatra 2525 and Jack of All Trades, lots of cheesy goodness in those two.

It has been renewed for at least a fourth season.

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

Apocolypse was unleashed in the Season 3 Finale by Rogue. Mystique was killed in that same episode.

Futurama was butchered by pre-emptions.

ABC's reality show The Family was never given a chance even though it was one of the best reality shows out there. They cancelled it after two episodes in order to show more coverage of the War in Iraq.

I found Family Guy to be a hell of a lot funnier than the Simpsons.

Yes, sue me.

I'm with you.

Look, Simpsons fans (and I am one of them): you gotta admit that the show is arguably past its prime. That's not to say that I don't believe it's still a quality program, better - and consistently funnier - and most of the top-rated sitcom crap out there today. And if we're talking golden-age Simpsons, I would say it smokes Family Guy. But Family Guy vs. latter-seasons Simpsons? I think Family Guy wins.

Unlike the Simpson's, Family Guy didn't try to make statements and they weren't trying to make intelligent satire of current events. Family Guy's humor was based mainly on pop culture references, which is why I love the show. The only way they were similar to The Simpsons was being animated and having an idiot as an father.

Right.

If anything, I always thought Family Guy was a subtle parody of the Simpsons rather than a ripoff of it.

Someone said Briscoe County Jr. I have to disagree. Briscoe ran for 3 or 4 seasons, and by the end the premise was running thin.

I think you're mistaken, friend. I'm a Bruceophile, and I can honestly say that, to my knowledge, he's only starred (as a full-time cast member) of two series, "The Adventures of Briscoe County Jr." and "Jack of All Trades". Neither lasted longer than a full season.

You may be confusing BCJr with another show, or possibly be thinking of Bruce's work on the Hercules / Xena shows (of which he was a frequent, regular guest star). If you're thinking of the latter, than yes - those shows lasted longer than 3 / 4 seasons, and the premise DID run thin at the end.

BTW, Brisco totally kicked ass.

Also, thinking about western shows, ABC (or was it CBS?) had on a western show a couple years back called "The Magnificent Seven" (I believe that was it). It wasn't a great show, but it was on a Saturday night if memory serves, and was decent enough for that night of traditionally weak programming.

I haven't either and from what I can tell the last 4 episodes of the third season never aired anywhere. The online guides I use for TV shows (pazsaz.com, epguides.com and tvtome.com) all list Under Lock and Key as the last aired episode and that was in November. There are supposed to be 4 more (Cruise Control, X23, and the two part season ender) but none of those have air dates listed like they never aired. I also can't find those 4 episodes to download online which is how I got every other episode of the series.

Brisco County lasted one season, 27 episodes and all 27 rocked ass. Now THAT is a television show I'd buy on DVD.

The Family Guy just doesn't resonate with me since the family outside of Brian and Stewie just weren't the least bit likable. It was like King Jerk and his jerky family do jerky things while two actually good characters hang on the sides. Yeah, Family Guy was better than the latter day Simpsons as Homer becomes more and more just like Peter and everyone else is pushed to the sides. But that doesn't make The Family Guy especially funny or worthy of the label of being cancelled too soon.
