I wonder if the Eddie/Rey interaction will lead to a Matt/Eddie feud down the line. Like I said before, they got rid of all the crap in the beginning of the show. Plus Albert is back in Velocity where he belongs...so much for that ME push.

And? They jobbed Booker T when they were in Houston over and over and over. Even if it IS in SoCal, it was the right decision, and that's what surprises me.

If Dragon is using that Briding Deathlock as a finishing submission...give him the face paint, the moonsault, and THE MIST and call him Great Muta 2003 or something. I absolutely LOVE that move. Nice to see it being used as a credible finisher.

 

Also, everyone thinks that the CW title match in the ME scene is a one time deal. I beg to differ. WWE could have EASILY...EASILY put Kurt on at the end of the show like the other returns, yet they recind and let the cruisers have their time in the spotlight. Also remember that the WWE recently stated that the crusiers were going to get a push soon. I think this might be the beginning of the awesome...

I hate to sound like many of the other cynics on this board, but I seriously don't think they'd have a cruiserweight title match as the M.E. with a much hyped return in the middle of the show if the returning superstar was you know wHHHo.

 

That aside, these are some of the most encouraging signs I've seen from SmackDown in a while. I'm actually going to make a point of taping the show Thursday when I go out, something I haven't done in the last 2 1/2 months.

So basically, you're completely ignoring the noticible improvements in the show to focus on

 

A. Mr. America, which in my opinion is completely harmless if kept to one segment per Smackdown.

B. A tag-team match that probably won't go longer than five minutes.

C. Benoit jobbing to someone they are trying to put over as an upper-midcarder, and he DIDN'T EVEN JOB CLEANLY. When Cena DVDs Benoit in the middle of the ring, no interferences, no cheating, then I will complain. And who cares? Benoit will be turning heel soon enough and will be involved in the main feud on Smackdown.

 

Meanwhile, Kurt Angle gets a great return that is surprisingly respectful, they're building up to Angle/Lesnar vs. Benoit/Rhyno, Matt Hardy vs. Rey Mysterio is the main event, and there is quite a bit less Mr. America, but who cares about THAT? That cup is half-empty, dammit!

Any word on how much time they give the CW title match? Nice to see that they are atleast trying to build it up as something important, and hopefully Matt Hardy starts being pushed as a heavyweight now. The rest of the show, however, pretty much looks like shit. Maybe a Benoit/Rhyno breakup and feud?

People here complain about every segment thats not completely wrestling related or features good workers, and to be honest thats not what the "fans want", a smackdown that resembles the Super J-Cup. Hell, i'd watch it but i think half the audience wouldn't get it. I think if the other stuff is held to its place in the show, its fine. When they do 12 Mr. America segments and place them in the main event slot, i just shut it off. When its one big segment, and the cruiserweight title shot is in the main even i am much happier.

I have passed on SD for the last couple of months or so, but I seriously think that this week’s show sounds like a vast improvement than before. You can’t expect every show to be ***** from top to bottom, but the positives definitely outweigh the negatives this week. It’ll be even better if you start watching at around 8:30-ish.

Personally I think Benoit's more suited to the ultra gritty guy that just won't quit as opposed to the ass kicking machine he usually ends up being booked as when he's a heel. Not that I think he reaks in either role, but I think his lack of size makes it hard for him to be intimidating while facing anyone larger than The Rock.

Considering the Mr. America angle has been avg *7* segments a show and looks to be continuing throughout the summer, it's far from being "limited".

 

I get why they are burying benoit. See, the crowd appreciates his hard work - and they can't appreciate heels, so in turn, rather than making him an Uber-face, they want to turn him heel AGAIN and completely destroy all that he has built up over the past year. Cause remember, if you end up getting yourself over, you're not worth pushing strong. Gotta bury him! Gotta turn him heel! Or does anyone not forget what happened last time he turned hell (aka "silence").

I see some debate about Benoit here.

 

My take on this:

 

Benoit's getting buried yet again this week. I don't know how anyone can see it any other way. I think this must be Vince's punishment since Benoit's proving that there are people out there who like wrestling and not Vince's "movies". If Benoit gets too far ahead he disproves Vince's theory that people want to watch wrestling and not entertainment. Either that or Benoit reminds him too much of Hart.

I just look at it like Benoit is an enchancement talent. Just like Angle was for a long time. Rey/Angle turned out to be good. A couple of the Edge/Angle matches were good...and I even liked Cena/Angle the first time that it happened before Cena had a gimmick.

Angle music hits. The crowd pops huge. Not a big U suck chant but it's there. Kurt grabs the mic & says he really missed hearing those 2 words & wants his music played again. He then leads the crowd in a U suck chant. Kurt begins talking about his surgery & rehab. The crowd starts doing what. Kurt says he even missed that. Kurt says there is one person who surprised when he was gone, calling him & being supportive & he wants the thank him. The Big Show's music hit. Show says he's not happy to have Kurt back & could easily break Kurt's neck again. They are forehead to forehead & Show backs Kurt into the corner. Kurt pulls out breath mints & offers them to show. Kurt climbs on the 2nd turnbuckle, so he can look down on Show. He says with all due respect Stone Cold...If u want to see Kurt Angle open a can of whoopass on the Big Show give me a U Suck....The crowd says U SUCK. Show grabs Kurt to chokeslam him. Here comes the pain. Brocks music hits & he makes his way to the ring. Show lets go of Kurt & slowly leaves the ring. Kurt tells Brock he didn't need his help. He says Brock has been having a lot of trouble with Show and after next week, Brock is defending the title against Big Show next week on Smackdown, he may have to go after Show to be champion again. Brock says that after he beats Show next week, if Kurt wants the next title shot, then it's on. Kurt says that it was Brock that he wanted to thank for the support. They shake hands and hug.
