Most painful looking WWF/E submission?

Recommended Posts

Guest William E

Bob Backlund's crossface chickenwing always looked like the most painful to me especially in my mark days, whenever he slapped it on Bret Hart during thier intense feud I would yell at him from my tv screen. I think it was Bret's selling that really got it over with me.

The Crossface Chickenwing was submission building at it's finest. No one was safe from it.

Bull Nakano used a combination of an ankle lock and single leg crab that was pretty sweet.

Haas Of Pain.

Just because of the way your bent around makes me think that if truly applied, it'd be painful as hell.

The Liontamer and a Hart Family Sharpshooter. A body just wasn't meant to bend that far backwards

Crossface Chickenwing owns me..someone needs to bring it back. I say give it to Rhyno for his possible upcoming heel turn.

But yeah, the way Bret sold it during that feud made me care as much as any nine year old mark could care for a submission hold..or something

Am I the only one in here who would always seize the chance to put someone in the sharpshooter :P

HEHEHEH... I used to do that in those mock fight stuff little kids do, back when I was a kid. It was always fun telling my friends to tap.

...ah, the days of old. (BTW, I just applied it, never actually put it to use)

To me, the crossface chicken wing is the only reason Backlund's heel turn worked out.

There was just something sadistic about the way he would cup his opponents chin in his one hand while trying to break their arm with the other...and then flailing them about before droping them into an unescapable clinch.

...

Or maybe that's just me.

Also bps I think that crazy look he would have on his face whenever he applied and finished the move was a factor.

When Benoit wants to be a dickhead and really wrenches back on the crossface I can almost feel my own neck snapping.

Haas of Pain

Crossface Chickenwing (remember when Angle used it? ^_^)

Shamrock Style Ankle-Lock (sorry, but the normal one that Angle does doesn't look as painful)

Ankle-lock plus Leg Lace (now THIS, on the other hand...)

Hart Family (or Dungeon Grad) Sharpshooter

Old School Liontamer.

There is one that hasn't been debuted in wrestling, that I was thinking of trying if I had become a wrestler. A combination Dragon Sleeper, knee in the back, and pulling the leg to the body. You'd lock the hands to get the leg as close to the body as possible, while squeezing on the neck. I've named it the Compressor.

All the surfboard stuff gets me squeemish. But at the same time, I never really bought someone staying put while you applied the surfboard, and so that kind of ruined the effect.

Anyway, crossface chicken wing is pretty swank. How come no one has picked up on it and brought it out of moth balls? Haas of pain I'll definitely go with and my personal favorite would have to be the ring post figure four.

Most Painful Looking:

1)Crippler crossface: Put your finger underneath your nose and push up. Hurts, doesn't it? Now imagine some force behind it.

2)Ankle Lock: When Angle first countered the ankle lock into the crossface on their 2nd last PPV match that looked painful. An interesting note about the ankle lock: Bas Rutten tapped in about 1 second to the ankle lock in Pancrase in a match against Suzuki or Funaki. I can't remember which one now

3)Hammerlock: A good old hammerlock looks painful and is painful

4)Bret Hart's sharpshooter he used against Mr. Perfect at Summerslam 91 when he won the IC title looked very painful

5)Dean Malenko's Texas Clover Leaf: I've had various moves put on me before and this seemed to be more painful than the sharpshooter

6)STF: I hear this is a real dangerous hold to even be practasing as it's real easy to screw someone up with it

7)That leglock that Angle put on Scotty too Hotty that "put him out of action." I may be remembering this wrong so please correct me if I am.

8)Perry Saturn's rings of Saturn

A little off topic here but does anyone know why wrestlers seem to work the wrong leg (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm real tired right now) in preparation for a figure 4? The straight leg is the one that hurts. Is it just because it probably appears more to the audience that the other leg is more likely to be in pain?

Wildpegasus- who'd loved to be tortured by Stu Hart in the dungeon but would be awful worried he'd never be able to work out again.

Good question.

Personally, I wonder why Angle didn't keep using it insted of going with the Ankle Lock...which he first used to put Scotty 2 Hotty on the shelf I believe.

...like that isn't an everyday occurance. ^_-

George Steele's flying Hammerlock looked way painful... I thought I could hear guy's shoulder's popping out of joint at times..... though Bret's ringpost figure-four gets a nod too...

Ref: Break the hold!! Break the hold!!!

Bret: Why?

if we are going out of the WWE, Ki's versions of the Dragon Sleeper look way painful... and yes, the Cattle Mutilation is downright NASTY to look at....

One move that gets overlooked is a front facelock. It's mostly a nothing move in pro wrestling but is actually very hard to get out of and is dangerous. Dynamite in his book was talking about a grovit which is a version of the facelock which would put out your lights in seconds.

That's the "Dragon Clutch."

The Indian deathlock with a bridge is painful. It puts pressure on your inner abductor muscle.

This also confuses me. Mostly because when I've had the figure four applied to me, the bent leg is the one that hurts. Of course, nobody's been seriously working my knee for 15 minutes. Still, just the by seeing the move, your head tells you that the pressure is all on the bent leg.

If you put the bent leg right across the kneecap of the straight leg it hurts like hell. I find the straight leg is the one that it hurts the most though but that's just me.

Bret's sharpshooter gets my vote, especially the one he did on Mr Perfect at SS91. This along with the fact that Hennig's back was completely fucked at that point makes me cringe even more.

Dunno whever he's used it in WWE, but Tajiri's move he used to do on Crazy in ECW(and vice versa) was brutal. Can't remember the name(sure someone else will), but it's when you step on the insides of the guys knees, hook his feet round the other side of your legs and sits back. Tajiri used to do that so the guy was on his knees, legs hooked back...and then locked on a dragon sleeper with it.

Haas of Pain looks pretty damn brutal, but the Chickenwing has to be the best for the way hardly nobody escaped from it during Backlund's times at the top.

I've always had this idea of a combination front facelock/hammerlock with the opponent facedown on the mat.

And I thought of the Dragon Clutch and had one of my ewrestlers using it before I ever even heard of American Dragon. Different name, of course.

Mainly because I have no flexibility, I would hate to be put in a stump puller.

Other painful-looking moves are the Crippler Crossface, the Boston Crab/Walls of Jericho/Liontamer, any kind of choke, that move that Dan Severn used to pretend-tear D'Lo's pecs. And the Mandible Claw.
