It was dead even for awhile, but after gaining steam by the day your winner by a score of 16-11 is...

Born to rich, affluent parents Thomas and Martha, young Bruce Wayne looked destined for a life of comfort and wealth until fate intervened. After leaving a movie theater one night and taking a short cut down an alley, Bruce and his parents were accosted by a thief who shot and killed his parents. Bruce was left in the care of the family butler, Alfred Pennyworth and swore revenge not only for the deaths of his parents but on the underworld criminal class as a whole.

Bruce then spent his early teens and twenties traveling the world and learning from the best men in their fields in how to become the greatest fighter, scientist and detective the world had ever known. After his training was completed, Bruce returned to his hometown of Gotham City under the guise of an aloof Playboy who lived off of the money brought in from such vast holdings as Wayne Technologies.

However, Bruce knew that his real fate lay in fighting the criminals of the city by night as a costumed vigilante. In a moment of divine inspiration, a bat flew through the window of his study late one night and led him to become Batman. Bruce then sat out to turn the caverns under his mansion into a base known as the Bat-Cave, built a car known as the Batmobile and even devised a utility belt that would carry all sorts of "wonderful toys" like homing device and Batarangs.

Batman quickly amassed a large rogues gallery of evil villains: eco-terrorist Poison Ivy, slinky burgular Catwoman, the question marked bedecked Riddler, the squawking Penguin and, most famous of all, the Clown Prince of Crime, the Joker, just to name a few.

However, Batman was not without his allies. First there was a young police lieutant who would eventually rise to commissioner and be able to call upon Batman through a lighted signal on the roof of the police station, Jim Gordon. Batman also took in orphan Dick Grayson and turned him into the sidekick Robin. Grayson would grow up to become Nightwing and a new Robin would be found in deliquent Jason Todd. Sorrowfully, Todd was murdered by the Joker and Batman went several years without a Robin until young Tim Drake learned Wayne's secret and wormed his way into the gig. Commissioner Gordon's daughter Barbara even served for many years as Batgirl, until she was crippled by the Joker and now she is the information dispensing computer expert Oracle. A new Batgirl has taken the mantle recently, not to mention the Batgirl like Huntress who also draws inspiration from the Bat.

Batman is one of the most iconic figures in comics, recognized the world over. Over the years he has been the star of movie serials, a campy sixties television series, several cartoons and a blockbuster film series of the late eighties and into the nineties which saw the character played by the likes of Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer and George Clooney. In many ways Batman is the opposite of DC's other big gun, Superman. He is dark, brooding, crafty, devious, without fear, super intelligent, cunning and a man who will fight until the last criminal is wiped off the streets.

I'm with Flyboy. WOLVERINE IS THE FUTURE.

I don't know what that means either. Still pissed, though.

I really don't mind the result, given that it seems most people voted for who was most popular. Still, the REAL best superhero's name starts with "Spider" and ends with "Man".

That's always bothered me. Aside from being "your average joe", I just don't see it.

Batman is the greatest. Spider-Man comes in close second, and right behind him is, probably, Superman.

Justice has been done.

Wolverine (Along with Cable, Punisher, and Ghost Rider) represented everything WRONG with the Specultaing Age of comic books. Ironically, at the same time Legends of the Dark Knight was becoming a critic and fan favorite for turning out awesome stories without the holo-foil cover BULLSHIT.

Plus, we ALL know Batman takes Wolvie in a fight.
