Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted June 7, 2003 I'm sure there's been a thread about this already, but I couldn't find it, so bleh. The summer's generally a good time to see live shows. I started mine off seeing the Rollins Band last night, playing a wealth of Black Flag songs on their benefit tour for the West Memphis 3. It was frickin' incredible--70 minutes of outright rawk, and an encore of Ramones covers. Being 10 feet away from Rollins and being able to really see the sadistic glint in his eye made the experience rather perfect. Only 20 bucks, and highly recommended if they're coming to your area. So, now that I've kicked it off with that, I need more. What interesting acts are touring this summer that you plan to see, beyond some of the big festivals? I'm not terribly interested in many of the metal acts either, but I want me some shows, dammit.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted June 7, 2003 If I can get a free ticket, I might check out OzzFest. Decent lineup this year, best it's been in years. Already went to MetalFest. Even though I only caught the last three bands (Shadows Fall, Nevermore, and Opeth), still had a great time. Going to Summer Sanitarium in July, as well as Maiden/Motörhead (if I can get tickets) and Type O Negative (again, if I can get tickets).
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2003 I need to find out when the Maiden/Dio/Motorhead tour comes to Pitsburgh. Then I shall get tickets. I still may go check out Lollapalooza on the 19th at the Post-Gazette Pavillion. I'm still not sold though.

This years might be better than the last couple but it still sucks ass. Of course I hate the majority of bands out today. I would like to go to Ozzfest just once but it will probably never happen since I didn't get the chance to when it was actually GOOD and will never be that way again. I did go to a VINCE NEIL concert a couple weeks ago. My friend had four free tickets because I wouldn't have payed to see it. It was actually pretty good although I did get propositioned by to really ugly middle-aged crack whores for a menagetrois which was pretty scary.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted June 7, 2003 I'll hit the big ones... Ozzfest Summer Sanitarium Lollapalooza (ONLY FOR AS...fuck Incubus and the rest of them) Rock Tha Mic (Fuck Sean Paul) but I dunno any others...I might catch the damn Maiden/Motor show... Kiss/Aero looks good...
Guest two_tuff_toddy Report post Posted June 7, 2003 (edited) "Summer Sanitarium" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA That is going to be one of the worst shows EVER. I wouldn't go to that if I had a FREE ticket. I'd just sell it to some dumbass Metallica mark who thinks that the Black Album is their first album for a couple hundred bucks and go by a bunch of kickass music. B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2003 Kiss/Aero looks good... I can't bring myself to see thisw show. Aerosmith haven't truly been a great band since 1989 or so, and KISS is just a joke now. I LOVE KISS to death, I'm a card carrying member of the Army, but fuck guys, give it up. I saw KISS on the "Farewell" tour THREE YEARS AGO, with the original line-up, which rocked my little world. But good God it's over. Eric Singer in Criss' make-up is a travesty, and even worse is Tommy Thayer wearing Ace's get-up. That's fucking blasphemous. Add to the fact that Saliva turned into pussies and I see one big disappointing show.

You're a fuckass for stretching the post. 2. OzzFest has SHADOWS FALL and KILLSWITCH ENGAGED this year. That alone is enough to make it a worthwhile show. Not to mention that Manson, who is pretty good live, is also there. Disturbed is as well, who is fucking GREAT live. Of course, there's Ozzy...meh. And Black Label Society will undoubtedly open main stage, and they own all kinds of ass.
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2003 Shadows Fall is playing on OzzFest? Shit, I may have to go now. Plus, I've yet to see the almighty BLS live.
Guest kingkamala Report post Posted June 7, 2003 I'm seeing Paul Rodgers live at a casino ballroom in New Hampshire *Waits for applause from everyone but only gets it from WrestlingDeacon* I might also see Weird Al when he comes here and I might also see Sum 41 *dodges garbage*

Guest mesepher Report post Posted June 7, 2003 if you're into music that skips around in several genres check out: the Derek Trucks Band - these guys do some great takes on jazz classics and their originals smoke. Leftover Salmon - described as "Polyethnic Cajun Slamgrass" and need to be seen to be believed. excellent shows from both of them

Guest snuffbox Report post Posted June 7, 2003 The only one appealing to me is Lollapalooza. Ozzfest remains overpriced although this years lineup is improved over recent years. Summer sanitarium is one of the saddest lineups ever made.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted June 8, 2003 Why am I going to S.S or intend to? Because I have a soft spot for Metallica and I just wanna kill any Bizkit/Park fans I can destroy with a Pissed Filled Water Bottle... Lolla has Audioslave going for it...Who else? Incubus, Janes, Jurassic 5 are the only ones I've heard about being on the tour and they don't appeal to me...

Manson is banned in the Buffalo area.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted June 8, 2003 What for? Doing the same things KISS and Iggy Pop did way back when? The possibility of a lack of Linkin Park is too joyous of one to not cream myself over. Excuse me... **wipes self up, changes clothes** ...yep, I'm done. NO LINKIN FUCKIN' PARK!!! WOOHOO! WHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
Guest snuffbox Report post Posted June 8, 2003 (edited) Summer Sanitarium - 80$ for Metallica playing 2+ hours(not sure how well), Linkin Park might pull out, limpbizkit will get 2 hours of their bullshit, deftones are totally disinterested in the whole thing so will prolly be dialing their set in from Chinos smoke den, and Mudvayne will get about 30mins with minimal theatrics so their set will also be weakened. Greaaaat Lollapalooza will have Janes Addiction(one of the alltime great live energy bands, and a personal fave), Audioslave, QOTSA, Incubus, Jurassic 5, The donnas, Cold, and the Distillers. That is the main stage lineup. The sidestage will feature 30 seconds from Mars, Cave In, Steve-o from Jackass, The Music and another 6 or 7 acts. There will also be numerous entertainment tents set up as well. Tix are about 55$. My decision was pretty easy considering the lineups vs. prices. Plus Im not a metallica fanboy so I dont put up with their current bullshit. I would however have paid the 80$ to see a Perry Farrell led show. Guest Kinetic Report post Posted June 9, 2003 Lollapalooza is making a valiant return this year, eh? And, judging by that lineup, it's evident that it's still a joke.
