Guest El Satanico Report post Posted June 7, 2003 I was on a Family Guy site a few days ago and saw something saying that Cartoon Network may be considering commisioning new episodes. As it stands now it's just a rumor, but just in case there's truth to it write CN expressing your love for the show.

As far as new shows being made, I don't think that's in the cards. They are in SERIOUS talks concerning releasing NEW stuff to DVD, like feature length films and the such. This is because the ratings over at the Cartoon Network that it's been getting are very high, and that the DVD set that was released has just sold TONS of sets. I forget the number right now, but it is amazing enough to get people interested in making new Family Guy stuff. There's also talks that if the upcoming set does just as well, someone else MIGHT pick up the series to come on TV again. So yeah, Family Guy isn't dead, it's just in waiting for right now! Guest Downhome Report post Posted June 8, 2003 Here is one bit about some of this... In a surprise even to producers of the show, nearly 400,000 copies of a DVD collection of Family Guy episodes have been sold since 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment shipped the three-disc set last month, according to the studio. Although nowhere near the 1 million-plus units sold of shows such as The Simpsons, Friends and Sex and the City, the number is pretty amazing considering the sitcom was never a ratings hit and aired sporadically during a good chunk of its three-year run on Fox. What's more, repeats of Family Guy have proven to be a major hit on Cartoon Network. Earlier this month, a Thursday night repeat drew nearly as many viewers 18 to 34 as hits such as South Park and Trading Spaces and slightly outdrew MTV's hit Sorority Life 2. Newfound buzz has even prompted talk from creator Seth MacFarlane of a direct-to-DVD feature-length Family Guy, although that's still in the early stages of discussion. "It's all pretty insane," MacFarlane told Daily Variety. "It's certainly some vindication and a sign that the show is as popular as we always suspected." Indeed, Family Guy bowed with a bang in a post-Super Bowl berth in 1999, but its numbers soon cooled, particularly when the show was moved to Thursday night in its second season. Fox execs, particularly entertainment chief Gail Berman, stuck by the show for three seasons but ultimately pulled the plug in 2001 (the finale episode aired early last year). The latest success for Family Guy represents a bittersweet victory for MacFarlane. "Fox certainly gave the show more of a chance than a lot of shows would've gotten, and we're indebted to Gail for the fact that we even got a third season," he said. "But it's also frustrating for everyone who worked on the show. We all felt it was killed before its time." Berman's decision to order a third season of Family Guy might not have worked out for Fox Broadcasting, but it was a smart move for the News Corp. bottom line. Extra segments produced will allow Fox to put out a second volume of Family Guy episodes this fall. It's also good news for die-hard fans, who'll finally get a chance to see an episode that never aired on Fox. The network declined to run the segment "When You Wish Upon a Weinstein" in which Peter (a.k.a. "the family guy") tries to convert his son to Judaism. - Video Business -- Kritik, Bikkit.com ...I'll post more if you want.
Guest EdwardKnoxII Report post Posted June 8, 2003 I remember reading a few rumors that said that Simpsons creator, Matt Groening, didn't like Family Guy for whatever reason (maybe cause he thought it would do better then his show) and use his pull with the guys at FOX to get it moved all over the place and whatnot. That's what I remember hearing about.
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted June 8, 2003 (maybe cause he thought it would do better then his show) To me it was the better show. But, that's just my opinion. I always found the Simpsons to be overrated. Unlike the Family Guy that can make me laugh in every episode, the Simpsons seem to lack that ability.
Guest WrestlingDeacon Report post Posted June 8, 2003 I find that rumor kind of hard to believe. Not only was the Simpsons firmly entrenched as a ratings winner by the time Family Guy came along, it was pretty much seen as a legendary type of show. That's like saying that Cheers didn't want Seinfeld anywhere near it when it debuted, because it was going to sap its popularity. Shows can't steal audiences away from other shows on the same network, that's just stupid. If anything they act as lead-ins to help newer shows get popular, as the Simpsons has done with King of the Hill and Malcolm in the Middle and now they can go to different time slots and try to act as lead-ins for other shows. Have you ever said, "that show rocked, but I'm not going to watch this other really good show because it doesn't rock as much. Let's see what's on C-Span." Guest hardyz1 Report post Posted June 8, 2003 Please God let this happen. I bought the first DVD set, and I will definitely buy the next one. I don't get Cartoon Network so I can't watch it there. Does anybody know when the second set is coming out? Ah, hell, I'm lazy.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted June 8, 2003 Groening may have bitched to Fox that he felt the show was ripping off The Simpsons, but that's likely the extent of his complaints or worries. I mean come on he had no reason to fear Family Guy no matter how popular it got. I think the reasoning behind Fox dicking around with Family Guy was most likely a higher up in Fox that didn't like the show or it's style of humor had it in for the show the entire time. Either that or the guy that was the biggest supporter of the show was fired and replaced by someone who didn't care for the show. Perhaps I've seen the "Jerry's tv show" episodes of Seinfeld too many times.
Guest BorneAgain Report post Posted June 8, 2003 Does anybody know when the second set is coming out? Ah, hell, I'm lazy. Definitely in September, probably around the 9th I think. Oh, and 400 posts, alright.
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted June 8, 2003 Does anybody know when the second set is coming out? Amazon.com says Sept. 9th, 2003. Might not take that to the bank, though.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted June 8, 2003 Didn't Family Guy take an Emmy from the Simpsons? I believe it broke the Simpsons streak also. Hmmm... I do find it odd that FOX would dispose of it after THAT, if what I remember is true that is.
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted June 8, 2003 Seth Macfarlane did an interview with one of our school's newspapers The Fish Rap Live! in which he said Fox wants him to do some direct-to-DVD stuff based on the success of the box-sets, but that there wouldn't be any new episodes for television. I believe Macfarlane also said he'd like to move on to another project, but don't quote me (or them) on that. If anyone wants I'll post the relative quotes later. Despite being very controversial, it's one of the best Family Guy episodes ever. I'll be pissed if they don't include it. There's no need to edit a DVD release and I was baffled when they edited out the Pez dispenser joke in the first DVD set.
JasonX 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2003 I remember reading a few rumors that said that Simpsons creator, Matt Groening, didn't like Family Guy for whatever reason (maybe cause he thought it would do better then his show) and use his pull with the guys at FOX to get it moved all over the place and whatnot. That's what I remember hearing about. Actually the rumor was that Groening felt Family Guy was a huge threat to Futurama, which launched at the same time as Family Guy. Fox supposedly didn't care for Futurama do to the fact that Groening's deal involving the show involved him, not Fox owning all of the rights to "Futurama" and Groening was said to be super-paranoid that Fox would fuck "Futurama" over and give Family Guy the God-Push just to spite him. So, as the rumor went, Groening used his pull with the Fox executives to expell Family Guy from the Sunday Night Line-Up (which is the most plum spot to have a show on the Fox Network) and had Futurama get the plum 8:30 PM timeslot that Family Guy once occupied, sending Family Guy into a state of perpetual movement across the Fox line-up and helped lead to it's premature death. Guest EricMM Report post Posted June 9, 2003 how ironic that both family guy and futurama are now sitting at the 11 o clock section of adult swim. They're both good shows, but... the family guy is a BETTER show.
