Guest Downhome Posted June 8, 2003 Report Posted June 8, 2003 Forrest Gump I liked the first time I saw it, but I liked it less with each viewing. The more I saw it, the more I thought about it and started dissecting it. I don't think it's a movie you should pick too far below the surface on or you expose a lot of the logic and plot gaps. My cousin didn't like it because Forrest didn't have a full spectrum of emotion. Namely, he NEVER gets mad in the fuckin' movie. For some reason, this really bugged her and she saw the movie as one that treated mentally disabled people as... well, not people at all, or something like that. I can definitely see where she's coming from, but I still love watching the movie. Perhaps not the best movie if you dissect it, as you said, but I try not to, and only watch it about once a year, so it's all fine and dandy. Forest got mad in the film, but only when his preciousssssss Jenny was in harms way. I liked that myself, because it showed that even though the Forest character was not normal, his emotions truly came through when those that he REALLY cared about were at issue. Hrm, did he? See, I only remember him getting upset... not really "FUCK IM MAD" at any point. He's sort of just clueless, heroic, happy, or sad throughout the film. Care to point out teh madness specifically? Oh, and here's one: Edward Scissorhands. Both while Jenny was in the car with the guy and he was jumping her, and when the guy in DC hit Jenny, Forest got very angry. I've worked with people "like" Forrest before, and you will not see those type of people get "FUCK I'M MAD", but they do get angry. It may not be what you interpret as such, when they are angry, but they do loose it to an extent. You have to understand that Forrest was not like just another character, he was quite different. From my experiances as well, the Forrest character was just perfect, in terms of people that are like that. It's a story of a guy with a few disadvantages who keeps lucking out, with things going his way for the most part, that's all. I love it btw, heh.

Back to the Future Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (which, as far as I see it, is more widely enjoyed than even Raiders) South Park Now, I've also never met anyone who's seen Yojimbo, The Third Man, and Casablanca and not liked them, but as stated earlier in this thread, you don't always find people who've seen them or want to, which makes discussion in this fashion very hard.

I don't know anyone who doesn't like them... though I do know a few chaps who get tired of TNT or whatever station it is running ACS 24 hours straight on Xmas eve. Both movies are definite classics, though. Ones not mentioned: The Killer A Better Tomorrow

I agree somewhat. I couldn't even bring myself to watch Redux, because I couldn't fathom the idea of a LONGER boat ride.

In fact more people hate Re-Animator than like it, it seems. Anyhow, I'd have to agree that FB's Day Off and A Christmas Story win it... and does anyone not like Christmas Vacation or Princess Bride? As for Edwin's picks... I don't really like Back to the Future too much, and I can't get into the Indiana Jones movies. I liked South Park and everything, but plenty of people didn't, so meh.

The original was funny the first time, but it's not exactly a story that requires a prequel. OK, we get it. They are stupid. Why make another movie about it? Money I suppose. May I nominate Fast Times at Ridgemont High and It's A Wonderful Life. Although FTARH might get shot down quickly, IAWL is one of the best holiday movies ever.
