Shaniqua Is Coming To Smackdown! (Spolier)

Recommended Posts

Guest lordazzington

WOW!! An African American woman on Smackdown!!! Am I seeing things?!!!! According to the Smackdown spoilers, a tall, lean, musculor black woman will be valeting The Basham Brothers. The person who typed the Smackdown reports wasn't too sure who it was though exactly.

Anyways, I'm guessing "Shaniqua" is Linda Miles. She fits the description perfectly, and she's hooked up with one of her Ohio Valley Wrestling peers. Could it be that Linda Miles has been called up? Looks to be the case.

Also, Jackie Gayda was called up this week to valet Rico on this coming Heat. I guess it would be rather bigoted of WWE if they called up a white woman who has far less athletic talent (Jackie Gayda) than Linda Miles and leave the black woman hanging because she's not white, is blonde, and has big plastic boobs. I think the thing holding back black females from being successful in WWE is their skin color because most of the people that watch WWE are white males and they cater more to them.

It'll be a cold day in hell before a black woman is the #1 WWE Diva and that sucks, mostly due to demographics. Despite the fact that Linda Miles is more athletically gifted than just about any diva on the roster, she'll never be #1 because she's not white. I don't think a black woman has ever been on the cover of one of their magazines.

Also, for some reason Jacqueline was left off the WWF Divas photoshoot from early 2000 despite being very active in WWF. I recall a group photo of Terri, Trish, Tori, Ivory, and The Kat all smiling and whatnot. WWE probably didn't want to mix the black girl in and mess everything up....

[cynical mode on] Be warned, you won't like me when I'm cynical.

We've got another female diva here in the WWE. Nice of you to notice, but would you terribly mind to keep this stuff in the spoiler thread. That's why it's created.

Seeing as everyone else from Tough Enough has kept their own name despite the many character changes they go through (Nidia, Chris Nowinski, Maven, Josh Matthews, Jackie Gayda), I'm thinking it might not be Linda. It might be Midnight, the girl who was with Booker T for a minute in WCW. But Midnight was more of a wrestler than a valet. And why the hell do they have to pick the most black-stereotype name ever? Shaniqua? Why not just go all-out and call her "LaQuacwanetta?"

At the wrestlingclassics.com message board, I checked out their Smackdown spoiler thread and a person in attendance said it was indeed Linda Miles. If it wasn't Linda, I would've thought that WWE had just hired Midnight, Booker T's WCW sister from 2000.

It IS Linda Miles, but her gimmicked name will be "Shaniqua".

The WWE will do anything it pleases with the OVW crop, including creating a "brother tag team" with two feuding wrestlers.

Eh I dont see that as a big deal since the viewership for OVW is rather low anyway, 99 percent of WWE fans dont even know about that shit.

On the flip side, I think its odd that they give Linda Miles a gimmicked name all of a sudden when the WWE fanbase know damn well who she is from the TE shows and even beyond when she was on the shows. Unless she wears something to not reveal her true identity I dont see why they are doin this.

For the past 2-3 weeks the shows (both Raw and Smackdown) have seemed to be more solidly booked, seriously. More shit is happening with purpose and I cant lie when I say I have been legit surprised with some of the things happening on the shows lately too. Both shows certainly arent A plus material, but I see them being at least bearable and damn near fun to watch even at times lately.

You seem upset that WWE is catering to their target market. Well, guess what, that is a good business practice. If I were an executive in WWE I would do the same thing.

The name change is kinda odd, but then again, Sheniqua's a better and more marketable name than "Linda". "Linda" just doesn't sound like a hotchick name, Sheniqua sounds better and it's unique.

Only she is not a hot chick. I mean come on, she looks like a man.

They'd probably do a bit better business if they catered more to minorities. WWE's doing a bit better job though with the inclusion of Linda Miles, Gail Kim, Rey Mysterio, Ultimo Dragon and a few others into their programming. Also, their theme music for Smackdown is rap, highly unlikely of WWE considering almost all of their music is rock music. They only use rap if a white guy did it though. Speaking of which, has WWE ever used a rap song from a black guy in ANY of there videos packages? Oh yeah, Wrestlemania Rap back in 1993.

I have no problem with Linda as she was a big basketball star here in cincy I just don't see how someone could find her attractive. In OVW she did not exactly have star qualities such as charisma or the ability to work. She is athletic but hasn't picked up the nuiances of the ring.

Well, she won't be wrestling though, at least not yet. Just managing for now and doing a bump. We'll see what happens. It doesn't hurt though that she's been called up, she'll make the Bashams a bit more interesting and we get to see a person debut.

I generally hate rap music. I do agree that the WWE tends to be rasict though. Are you a gimmick poster lordazzington?

I would have to assume that the reason Linda Miles' name was changed in WWE is for the exact same reason Shane Helms' name was changed to Gregory two years ago, because his first name sounds too close to Vince's son's first name, and that Linda Miles' first name sounds too close to Vince's wife's first name. Silly, I know, but that's Vince for you.

Actually, Gregory is his birth-name and it sounds more fitting of a mild-mannered reporter...

Since Jackie is with Rico, doing the Adrian Street thing, I heard that they were calling Jackie Miss Linda. Like Street's old valet. That might explain why they changed Linda Mile's name.

If Vince gives her a new name, rather than letting her use her own name, then he'll own the rights to the marketing and whatnot. So, if (by some amazing fluke) she becomes a star and chooses to leave the wwe, she'd have to use a name OTHER than the one that she got famous with. Which would hurt her marketability.

I just read some spoilers on pwtorch.com that said his section couldn't determine wether she was a woman or man.

I'll believe the Shaniqua thing when I actually *hear* it on SmackDown! seeing as I haven't seen any spoiler reports or news reports whatsoever saying that's her new name. Sounds like bunk to me.

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

From Smackdown Spoilers on Prowrestling.com

4) Chris Benoit & Rhyno vs. Doug & Dave Basham (w/ Shaniqua)

The Bashams have gotten themselves a valet, and it's none other than Linda Miles! This was a pretty decent match, with Rhyno taking a beating. Chris goes up top for the flying headbutt, and Linda tries to interfere. He just kicks her away, but he misses the headbutt. The match ends with Rhyno accidentally punching Benoit in the face, and one of the Bashams pins Benoit. After the match, he's not a happy camper.

So there ya go...

The question isn't (seriously - it was jokingly... I thought jokingly) if it was Linda Miles. The question is the fact people are saying Shaniqua this and SHaniqua that while no spoilers I've read on the big 2 (sorry, PWTorch, you're out of the loop for me) and the small 1 (LOP) had any mention of that particular name.
