Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted June 13, 2003 When his second post calls us all sheep...he's not new to the internet community
Guest croweater Report post Posted June 13, 2003 no, but in fairness to the guy.... his first post was insulted with no real reason in the first reply to it. I can understand how he would become defensive.
Guest The Flying Dutchman Report post Posted June 13, 2003 Just because he's not new doesn't mean he has to think the same way though. I'm a "smart", "smart mark", "smark" or whatever and I happen to enjoy Big Show vs. Lesnar and Hogan vs. McMahon while thinking that Misawa vs. Kawada is boring as was Misterio vs. Psicosis. Obviously, you shouldn't come onto a board with the intention of starting shit, but I don't think someone should be crucified because they have a different opinion. Guest nikowwf Report post Posted June 13, 2003 Oh please people. Someone who joined and the second post is an ode to Billy Gunn is doing it just to push your buttons. I'm glad you guys are so nice that you give peeps the benefit of the doubt, but this was just an attempt to start a flame war about Billy Gunn. niko
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted June 13, 2003 I don't see how someone stating their opinion that what Billy Gunn deserves is a "one way ticket home" is being insulting to the poster...leading him to actually insult the guy who made the response.
Guest croweater Report post Posted June 13, 2003 innocent until proven guilty. He did have some possibly valid points about Billy Gunn, and I've never personally found him offensive (though nor very entertaining) but I can see how someone holds these views about him. It's not like he came on and said "BIG SHOW IS BEST WORKER IN WWE AND IM GLAD HE INJURED REY"
Guest croweater Report post Posted June 13, 2003 I didn't say it was a personal attack on the poster... but instead on his thread which he could have been offended by, considering it was his first thread.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted June 13, 2003 In his first post he calls out Billy Gunn haters: "This is my first post on this forum...and I really hope that all the Billy Gunn haters jump on this" Then when one says Billy Gunn deserves a ticket home... With his second post he calls that person whom he called out a sheep. Welcome to the forum.
Guest The Flying Dutchman Report post Posted June 13, 2003 Someone who joined and the second post is an ode to Billy Gunn is doing it just to push your buttons. Yes, he's trying to push buttons, I agree. Thing is, I happen to agree with the opinions that HE's getting flamed for. Granted, he did have a confrontational attitude about it. I can't help but feel that if you say you like a wrestler that most people around here hate, you're going to get insulted to hell and back. You hear a lot of people say "Charisma means nothing if you don't have talent", but that just isn't true. Look at how much Hulk Hogan's or the Rock's charisma can pull a crowd into a match and get them riled up, even if they aren't great wrestlers (to be fair, in the Rock's case, he's a gotten a lot better since he started). I don't think Billy has what it takes to make it as a singles wrestler, but I do think he has his place in the tag division.
Guest croweater Report post Posted June 13, 2003 maybe he was calling them out for a discussion, hence them him wanting them to jump on it......?? ............. ok...... I'm almost completely out of defence now. I just usually give people the benefit of the doubt and this poster didn't strike me as offensive. But then once again. I am a relative newbie to the smart marks forum and don't really know the tell tail signs of posters like this.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted June 13, 2003 If he hadn't gone right to "spoken like a true sheep" after the first response that WASN'T flamitory (cool word...spelled wrong most likely...may not be real)...then I'd agree with both of you. Besides, it's not like he's banned or even warned so I don't know what we're talking about and will now direct my attention to the heavily clipped versions of Friday the 13th on TNN. Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted June 13, 2003 I didn't actually see the match or the segment, but from what I undertsnad he suashed A-Train. Now, A-Train may seem like nothing to all of you, but if you look at the fact that he was pushed as a monster and Has squashed or at least been up to poar with the guys on the roster such as Benoit and Rey and you have Undertaker trying to sell for the uy, it is a big deal when Gunn beats him in under 2 minutes. He's got Taker backing him, and he's a hoss with decent mobility. fir him to be squashed by someone = a big push, IMO.
Guest The Flying Dutchman Report post Posted June 13, 2003 Or just a really stupid decision. By that logic, Billy Gunn > Undertaker. Actually, I think I like that logic.
Guest Austin3164life Report post Posted June 13, 2003 no, but in fairness to the guy.... his first post was insulted with no real reason in the first reply to it. I can understand how he would become defensive. I replied to his first post, and I did not insult him. All I said was that Billy Gunn deserves a plane ride back to his house. Then he comes back and calls me a "sheep". If he can't handle my opinion of Billy Gunn, than tough luck for him. Billy Gunn does not deserve a hefty amount of t.v. time invested in him. He's been in DX and been gay, and now is back again. He is not worth any push they might have in store for him.

Thanks, Bryan. I didn't intend at all to flame the guy, I just said what I think Billy Gunn deserves.
Murmuring Beast 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2003 He can't draw. His wrestling skills are far from brilliant, and the only persona that he excells in is one where he shows everyone his ass. Think about it, that does not make sense. We want good wrestlers on TV, and Billy Boy could only draw if he had a DX Shirt on and was surrounded by BG James and Syxx-Pac. People pop when you have come back from injury because they respect that you have overcome the injury. I think the pop will die down. Go ahead Gunn, prove me wrong, I'd actually like to see you go well, and I'd like to see your skills improve. You have had almost as many failed pushes as A-Train, and you don't impress alot of people. Sorry, I just had to clear the above - a huge steaming, stinking, pile of monkey crap - up. Has Billy Gunn ever been in the main-event? No. Has A-Train ever been in the main-event? No, too. His Gunn over? Yes. He can't draw? Sorry, but are you looking at the Scott Keith book of unfindable stats here? I don't know where you come up with the "can't draw" theory. Truth is, jackass, Gunn is popular and as soon as you realise this you can get off your creaking soap box, stop grilling new posters and enjoy the product. Love and Mercy. Guest Choken One Report post Posted June 13, 2003 Gunn has been a fixture in the WWE since 1993 mainly because WWE officals still are convinced that this WORLD CLASS ATHELETE can still be a drawing commodity. Has Billy Gunn done anything bad to you people? Of course not and you continue to bash and slam him all you can at every chance you get. No, Billy Gunn isn't Christopher Jesus Beniot but that is NOT a bad thing. Billy Gunn has always been an inoffensive Wrestler, not great but not atrocious...and hasn't really been a political player...and done A LOT of things WWE asked him to do... A Cowboy...AN ASS LOVING GUY...THE ONE...and then the ultimate insult...A Gay Man. and he did it without any complaints. Has he ever been over? Yep. Did he ever draw? As a member of NAO he did. Look, Billy Gunn isn't all that bad...let's saving the poker sticks for Nathan Jones.
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted June 13, 2003 You know if WWE writers ever DID look at this board, they'd see two threads that have reached two pages about Billy Gunn. Then they'll assume he's a hot topic of conversation amongst the Internet fans, and there's another reason to push him once again. Scary thought. Anyway, the truth is Billy Gunn is pretty popular with the marks for some reason which I can't explain, so he will be on your TV doing important things until he fucks up again. I think he sucks because he's boring and he's been doing the same stuff since 1998, but the fact is some fans like him and they can't tell if a guy's blown up until it's really obvious. And the majority of fans and writers don't remember or care that he almost killed Baby Jesus---I mean, Chris Benoit. But was I the only one who noticed he was acting very...er....festive last night? A couple of his poses or whatever looked like the type of stuff he should have been doing during the Billy-Chuck era. And acting shy about slapping Torrie's ass makes me think they're going to do the closet case gay wrestler thing again.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted June 13, 2003 How much of the crowd's reaction was Gunn returning from a long absence and the return of the Assman song?

Adam 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2003 That was disturbing. Anyway, I see I have sparked mass arguement over my comments about the new guy. Well, maybe I went a little far, and I am sorry about that. I will not, however, take my opinions about Billy Gunn back. He only drew when he was in the NAO, and, in my opinion, that was only because Road Dogg was out there with him. Did I hear someone say 'Enjoy the product'?? What, actually enjoy the product that continues to insault our intelligence every week? Enjoy the product we continue to diss time and time again because of its sucktitude? No, I'll enjoy the product when it starts becoming enjoyable. Not before.

Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted June 13, 2003 I'm a lover, of every kind The best surprises always sneak up from behind AHHHHH!!!! Also a gem: "That's why the girls don't walk behind me down the street" Billy Gunn = bi-curious with a flatulence problem. Maybe a surprise snuck up from behind him and screwed up his intestines? Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted June 14, 2003 The reason Gunn can't get over isn't so much his ring work as it is his persona. Gunn can't work the stick, so they have to rely on gimmicks. Over and over, they've tried to push him with a new gimmick, and it didn't work. Which is why I think of him as Brutus Beefcake Jr.
Guest CanadianChick Report post Posted June 14, 2003 It's the same 'ol cycle with Billy Gunn. He will be pushed, but the push won't amount to anything, and then he will be put back in a tag team again. Which is fine, because I don't mind him as a tag partner and don't find anything particularly special about him as a singles wrestler. And as for the "Ass Man" song...I am disturbed. Maybe they should of used that song for the Billy & Chuckk tag team...
Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted June 14, 2003 "Your lies won't give away the truth of how I feel." I don't get it--what does this line mean? CanChick: Yeah, but they'd have to rewrite it as "Ass Men."
Guest BifEverchad Report post Posted June 14, 2003 Hey, sue me but I like Billy Gunn. I've always enjoyed him since he broke away from The Smoking Gunns in 96. His work when he was a New Age Outlaw was stellar and until they got over exposed, he was great in dX. I'll admit, at times he kinda got old, and seemed directionless, but still I havent been one to criticize him or put any hate on him. The One was a lame gimmick, but thankfully didnt last too long. But the Billy & Chuck stuff provided some memorable moments for everybody, the fans and his haters. So some may love 'em, most may hate 'em. But I was glad to see him come back on SmackDown! the other night....
