Well, the Rocket finally got number 300 tonight in a 5-2 victory over the Cards. He also got stikeout number 4000. Big night for Roger.

So yes, cry bitter, jealous Clemens haters, cry.

You know you want to.

Fleh.

I'm happy for him. He was my favorite baseball player when I was a kid.

Who the hell cares ? He was going to get it eventually, and the milestone has been tarnished since it took him 4 attempts to actually do it.

So hooray, Clemens was able to get his 300th win. I just scratched my ass for the 300th time today. When am I going to get a whole bunch of overblown hype from ESPN ?

How does that tarnish it? A lot of pitchers go 4 starts between wins. I'm not a Yankee fan by any means, but congratulations to Clemens. He came through with a big performance against a tough lineup.

I stopped caring about 3 games into his 300th try. Maybe if baseball was as fun as it was years ago I could be a little more up for it.

Well, I don't like him, but he definitely deserves to get to 300. Although, I will miss his trials and tribulations he had to go through after win 299.

Big deal if it took him 4 tries. It took Lefty Grove (or was it Gomez?) EIGHT tries to get #300. Congrats to The Rocket on both of his milestone.

I think you mean Early Wynn. Took him eight tries over two years to get win #300. And I don't see how taking three tries to win 300 tarnishes Roger's reputation.

Congrats to the Rocket on #300, and also on strikeout #4,000, only the third pitcher ever to reach that number. The question now isn't if he is one of the greatest of all time, but where he ranks among the greatest. And also, what hat his plaque will have in Cooperstown.

I don't get how its a big deal that Roger's only the 3rd pitcher to reach 4,000 strikeouts. He was also one of only 3 to reach 3999, 3998, etc.

alkeiper is your ideal sports world one where nothing is celebrated? Should the team that wins the world series after making the final out slowly walk silently into the dug out, and into the lockerroom? Should there not be any coverage on channels that are designed for that purpose?

This is what sports are all about big acheivements, greatness, milestones, of course there going to make a big deal out of it because it is a big deal. Your hands probably up your ass all day long, this is only the 21st time in the history of the game someone's ammased such a staggering number of victories, only the third time ever someones thrown that many k's.

Your ideal world of sports is about as exciting as you scratching your ass, so I can understand the connection.

The HOF isn't going to let Clemens choose which hat he wears.

yes it will...that's the rule the HOF put in place years back...

Actually the rule was just put in last year and it was put in because apparantly there was some deal cut between Dave Winfield and the Padres for them wear his hat after he was selected the previous year. Personally I think it was mainly just put in because someone actually decided not to go in as a Yankee so they through a hissy fit. But its a good rule to prevent someone like Wade Boggs from going in as a Devil Ray.

Actually, I think it was also in Boggs' contract to go in as a Devil Ray. Way to tarnish a pretty good career there, Wade.

You know, not every post is a personal assault on the Yankees. I'm just being tounge in cheek here. The announcers made a comment about how Clemens "joined an exclusive club." I've had some good discussions on this forums, and plenty of disagreements, but I've never had anyone (even Yankee fans) throw insults at me anytime I've posted. Grow up.

The HOF is telling Clemens he can't wear a Yankees hat. The HOF has said they want a players hat to best represent where they played their best years. Also, if a player has several seasons in a small market like Gary Carter, I think the HOF will tell that player he has to wear that hat, and not New York like Carter wanted. It's a case of wanting the best representation of the museum.

More milestones in NY, 300 in NY, 4000 in NY, championships in NY, CY Young with NY. No debating he played better ball in Boston but when you have his list of acheivements and the majority happened in NY it's gonna be a little silly to have him wearing a Red Sox cap.

alkeiper, where did I throw an insult? You were complaining about how things are blown out of proportion and I said if thats the case your ideal sports world is about as exciting as you scratching your ass.

Fuck all that shit.

If he hadn't played SO well in Boston (and Toronto) he wouldn't be reaching these milestones in New York. It only makes sense to put him in under the hat he played his best years wearing. He won a Cy with the Jays too, but I don't see anyone clamoring for him to wear a Jays cap.

The only flaw in that logic is a player could win 295 games for a team or stike out 3999 batters for a team, and then go to a different team for a year and reach the milestones there. Should he still wear the second team's hat? Isn't that where the milestones occurred?

And Clemens has already said that if he can't wear a Yankees hat into the HOF, he's skipping his introduction ceremony. (glad to see that it means so much to him). That's a real good example to set for the kiddies, eh, Rocket? "if I can't get my way, I'm taking my ball and going home" Boo-fucking-hoo.

Put him in the hall with a big $ on his hat.

Here's something interesting I found at espn.com-

Clemens says he may boycott Hall ceremony

ESPN.com news services

He's won six Cy Young awards and 300 games and is only one of three pitchers with 4,000 strikeouts. Roger Clemens has written his own ticket to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

The question is, will he be in Cooperstown on the day of his eventual induction?

Clemens said Saturday he will not attend his own induction ceremony if he is not allowed to go into the Hall of Fame as a member of the New York Yankees.

The Hall of Fame reserves the right to select which team a player will be identified with for induction. For example, Gary Carter will enter the Hall this summer as a member of the Montreal Expos, even though his wish was to go in as a member of the New York Mets.

The 40-year-old Clemens, who won his 300th game Friday night against the Cardinals, has said he plans to retire at the end of this season. If he does retire, he will become a member of the Hall in 2009. Clemens, who also pitched for the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays, has emphasized numerous times his desire to go into the Hall as a Yankee.

"I play 20 years, work my tail off, they're not going to tell me what hat I'm wearing," Clemens told reporters Saturday. "I promise you that. There might be a vacant seat there. I'll take my mother and we'll go to Palm Springs and invite all y'all and we'll have our own celebration."

Clemens spent 13 years with the Red Sox, two with the Blue Jays and the last five with the Yankees. He posted terrific numbers for all three franchises, but did not win a championship until he joined the Yankees. He has won two titles with New York, plus his sixth Cy Young Award.

"Somebody told me there are a couple of guys who don't even have a hat on," Clemens said. "But that would be disrespectful to what Mr. (George) Steinbrenner has given me: an opportunity to come here and continue my career, to be able to achieve these moments and become a Hall of Famer.

"I became a Hall of Famer here," Clemens added. "If I'd have listened to people there [in Boston], then I'd have been done. Not people. One person that evaluated my skills and he didn't take the time to get to know me."

Clemens left Boston as a free agent after the 1996 season when general manager Dan Duquette and the Red Sox figured that his best years were behind him. Clemens then signed with the Blue Jays and won the Cy Young in each of his two years in Toronto. He was then traded to the Yankees.

Clemens has been solid for the Yankees this season, going 7-4 with a 3.73 ERA with a league-leading 97 strikeouts in 89 innings.

Alright I got a good question, would Roger make the hall of fame if he retired after his last season with the Jays?
