Lewis vs. Vitali...

Recommended Posts

Guest NoCalMike

I have not seen very much of Vitali Klitscko. I have seen how huge he is, so it shouldn't be another Lennox Lewis fight where Lewis's size is his main weapon. Vitali is just as big, if not bigger.

I want Lewis to get knocked out, but I heard Vitali stressing that he has only had 2 weeks to prepare for the fight since he is a replacement for Kirk Johnson(oh boy). He did say he saw something in Lewis's style that can be exposed, so that will be interesting to see how it works.(His lack of chin?) Lewis is predicitng a KO in the fifth round......

It's on HBO, which is interesting, as this probably could have easily been a PPV fight if it had more than 2 weeks to be advertised.

Thoughts?

Is Vitali a dirty fighter? Or am I confusing him with someone else. I remember hearing that he like to aim low with his punches or leads with his head for "incendental headbutts".

You must be thinking of Andrew Golatta.

I'll be rooting for Vitali. I can't stand Lennox Lewis.

You're right. I am not surprised that this is not PPV, who in USA would want to watch 2 heavyweights fight for the European Title :)

I would like to see Roy Jones Jr fight Lewis or go after the other heavyweight champs.

Lewis by decision.

I'd love to see Jones-Lewis, simply because its the only fight out there with any kind of intrigue attached to it.

To me, Lewis/Jones Jr would be mostly Jones Jr running away throwing out jabs. Jones Jr is a hell of a boxer but he is not dumb enough to think he can stand toe-to-toe with the power of a super-heavyweight.

I want Lewis to get knocked out by a legit heavyweight contender before he retires, so at least it can be some sort of passing of the torch.

Question I was pondering the other day....

If Roy Jones defeated Lennox Lewis, would Jones have a case to be the best boxer ever?

Lewis is gonna skunk Vitali. Lennox is too fast for him, and is too good of a boxer. Vitali's got a suspect chin, and isn't particularly quick. He's just got KO power, and size. Lewis will wear him down with jabs and body shots, and drop him in the middle rounds.

Have you seen this guy box? Isn't quick? His straight right hand is one of the more incredible things to behold how fast he can flash it out there with all that power behind it. He has a incredibly fast and powerful left hook to take guys out when they over compesate for the straight right that he throws to set them up. He is fundamentally sound, and I can't remember him going down, let alone showing a suspect chin. His only lost was when he tore a mucsle in his shoulder and stopped the fight...that he was winning unanimously in the 9th round.

I have been harping for this fight for about 2 years now, and I'm kinda pissed he only gets 2 weeks to prepare, but I think that he will take Lennox mostly because Lewis is known to get cocky and Klichko will be there to take him down.

Joe Casual: So the big dumb Russian won eh? What's that silly tyson doing now? Killing Chickens! HA! Great! I wanna spend 50 bucks for him! HE-HAW!

And Lewis keeping the title isn't doing anything seeing as he had to get sued to be forced to defend it against a worthy opponent. He keeps riding that "I'm too good for him" thing and he is killing the already dead heavy weight division even more.

Nobody looks to this division for the goods anymore anyway. Its all about the little guys.

Lennox Lewis in seven rounds. I'm not really impressed by Vitali and Lennox Lewis is still one of the top heavyweights in the world today. In fact I don't think anyone really poses a major threat to Lewis except for Wladimir Klitschko(sp?), Wladimir is the closest to a real life Ivan Drago that I've ever seen.

Lewis is allegedly in the best shape he's been since the Holyfield "draw" If Lewis has prepared properly and not just shown up expecting to walk it (Rahman and Tua) then he should win in 5 or 6 rounds

I think Lennox Lewis has a suspect chin as well. His losses to McCall and Rahman were basically on one punch. He was dropped.

Who has he fought? Anyone? Bueller?

For the chin comment, I (as many others have done) confused him with his little brother Wladimir, who recently got knocked the fuck out.

Still, I'm giving this one to Lewis, as he's learned what it means to be the world champ. I doubt very seriously he gets popped again.

Lewis has all that world class experience behind him, too. I can't think of a single guy worth a shit that Vitali has fought.

Lewis will win...then he'll probably duck Byrd and slaughter Roy Jones.

Yeah, I know Lewis will win. Vitaly doesn't really have a chance.

But you guys remember the way Byrd made Holyfield look like a senial old man..oh wait.

Umm...Lewis is looking WAY TO overconfident via his interview on Rome Is burning...where stroked himself and pretty much said

"Im kicking ass because I am the greatest" and he says with that smirk that make him the most boring and pathetic "SUPER HEAVY" to exist...

No wonder boxing is fucked...

It's world champion is a total dickass and it's bigger star is Certifidable Insane...

Lewis is a major asshole, but he beats everyone soundly. Although when he loses like he did to Rochman (sp) he's got a million excuses and he'll take no blame himself.

Lewis wasn't prepared for a fight against Rahman. He didn't take a professional fighter seriously, and the chump got lucky.

Lets also not forget that in the rematch, Lewis cut, embarassed, and KOed Rahman in 4 rounds. A complete and utter SLAUGHTER.

Apparently Wladimir found a few of Lewis' flaws when they were filming the fight scenes for Ocean's Eleven. This could be an interesting fight.

I don't think Vitali has any chance against Lennox. Lewis has proven he is the top heavyweight of his generation and probably a top 10 heavyweight of all time. I know a lot of people find him boring, but his boring style has made him a top heavyweight. I don't see Lennox losing to anyone anytime soon in the heavyweight division. Roy Jones Jr. would have no chance against Lennox. He is smaller than Tyson and Tyson could not get inside on Lewis and there is no way Roy will beat him without getting inside and he can't do that.

Holyfield, Bowe and Tyson would all pummel Lewis in their primes. No way he is the best of his Generation.

Lewis has beaten all three of them.

Bowe in the 88 Olympics by KO in the 2nd

He KOed Tyson in Memphis

He beat Holyfield in the first match DECISIVELY, only got screwed on a bad draw decision, only to have it avenged in a unanimous decision in the rematch in England, even though THAT fight was closer.

He beat both evander and tyson over a decade past their primes. I don't know how anyone can argue that the Tyson now is close to the Tyson of the 80's.

Larry Holmes beat the hell out of Ali, but I don't see anyone arguing who was the better fighter there. Beating a fighter past thier prime doesn't make you a better fighter than them through their overall career.

I think this is a very dangerous fight for Lennox. He has not fought in over a year and he was training to fight Kirk Johnson. You can't just train for a entirely different opponent in a few weeks. He has proven that he can't really take a punch so he has to be on the top of his jabbing game if he intends to maintain his status as THE heavyweight champion.

Lewis isn't exactly a spring chicken, either.

Tyson still has ruthless TNT knockout power and the instinct to destroy whatever's in front of him, he just doesn't have his aura of invincibility. The size problems were the story of the fight, though, as well as Lennox's jab.

Holyfield has always been overrated in my book, as he fights really dirty, and gets favored by judges a little too much. He can take a beating though, and has more guts than most other heavyweights ever will.

I totally agree with you on the last point, but I don't agree with your example as something to parallel to Lewis/Tyson or Holyfield.

Neither of those two were totally decrepit wobbly punching bags by that point. If Tyson would've frustrated Lewis, and connected with a good flush shot, he would've crushed him, but Tyson just got outboxed.

The Holyfield fight was more of a case of Lewis not having enough to finish Evander off, while still being somewhat competitive in the rematch. The first fight was a slaughter, though, admittedly.
