US Title's Lineage

Recommended Posts

They just announced on Smackdown that the US Title continues the lineage of the old NWA/WCW version. Steph said that she's bringing back the title, and Michael Cole went into further detail that this title started back in the seventies with Harley Race in the NWA.

What's everyone's thoughts on this? Before they said all of this stuff, I considered it to have the lineage of the old one, just beause they own the old belt.

Again...we dont need to talk about the fucking Linage...

It's the dumbest debate around...

No, Choken, you don't have to talk about it if you don't want to; I don't recall you taking over for Dames as the owner of this board. If you don't wanna talk about it, then don't come in here and bitch at somebody who does.

Anyway, I think it's a good idea that gives more credibility and value to the belt.

No because arguing about something like that just makes Wrestling Fans look like Fucking trekies of something...

Lineage has no meaning...not in the modern era...

Dude, that's your opinion. If this thread dies because no one cares about it, that's fine. But I don't think it's your place to tell people what matters and what doesn't. Besides, I can think of many threads that have been started on this board that have been far more 'Trekkie-like' than this one.

It doesn't though. The lineage of the US Title from the NWA/WCW days is in the title that Triple H currently holds.

^ Example of how people act like that it means something...

What I don't understand is why everyone believes it to be true just because WWE says it's true.

It has no lineage. It's a title they made up out of thin air, that just happens to have the same name as an old NWA title. All the name-dropping in the world isn't going to change that.

Man, Choken One really gets a hard on for ruining post that try to start a conversation about something that pertains to WRESTLING. Sorry, Choken One, but we don't want to talk about how much Triple H is holding people down, or how Nash is going to rip his knee to shreds when he walks. This is no different than when comic book fans discuss conflicting storylines in their respective series. Last time I looked, there was a forumn on this very sight that allows people to do that. How about you go pollute their pleasure by dismissing everything they say as stupid and pointless. We all know its just a show. But it's a show that we all enjoy, so why not talk about something that involves how the show is percieved. If you don't want to talk about it, don't. No one is making you. You may call us marks for talking about lineage and what not, but we're all marks in some way, otherwise we wouldn't be here. So my advice to you, Choken One, is to stop replying to stuff if you're just going to rain on everybody's parade, and shut the fuck up.

Sorry about that Steviekick, I'll talk about the topic now. It is my opinion that the WWE is really reaching to make their title's seem legit. I do not consider this incarnation of the US title to be part of WCW's lineage. WCW's US title lineage was absorbed by the WWE IC title, which was absorbed by the RAW World Title. So, with that knowledge every title that is on WWE programming right now begins and ends with WWE, except the Cruiserweight title, which is WCW's creation.

Let's just say the title was dissolved when it was unified. That would explain what happened with the IC title as well.

As far as Harley Race being the first to hold the belt in 75 or whatever ... ah, WWE revisionist history ... that's about as accurate as saying the last stretcher match was 17 years ago.

I'm glad they brought the title back. I just wish they would have kept the old design instead of that freaking awful belt Stephanie had with her tonight.

Actually, there were so many "NWA" US Champions that trying to pinpoint it down to one is ludicrous anyway.

I appreciate them trying to make it seem like a worthwhile title, but even casual fans will look back and go "When did they have a US Title?"

Regardless what you think about it's lineage, you do have to admit that the new belt is hideous looking.

While we're on the subject, was there a PWI Almanac released this past year? I usually pick one up but forgot for whatever reason.

Yeah, there was a PWI put out this year. It's been out for the last two months or so.

Let's just say the HHH belt was de-unified into its component parts, so really he's just the WCW Champion. Austin and Bischoff broke up the unifications because They Can Do These Things. Christian re-claimed the Intercontinental title from the lineage and someone will get the United States portion. There. Done.

Your all forgetting the most important part of the lineage...the Canadian Heavyweight Title! You know when Lance Storm renamed the U.S. Title belt in the Summer of 2000? Oh wait...everyone stopped watching WCW by then...nevermind.

I'm sure PWI will list this US Title's lineage under the old one's. (For PWI's US Title lineage, they start with the Mid-Atlantic US Title in mid-1980.)

You do realize, however, that it is possible for titles to be "'un-unified," right?

PWI never really pushed the lingeage back past Snuka or Flair in the late 70s.

The WWE owns the titles. If they want to unify and un-unify titles at will, they can.
