For Some reason...I recall reading about in the Mid 90's WWF in a effort to boost ticket sales for a MSG show booked an non-television Royal Rumble?

Is this true and if so...Who went over and how if at all was it different from the normal PPV rumbles?

Edit-Whoops. Send this to Old School if you will please.

From Cawthon' site:

WWF @ New York City, NY - Madison Square Garden - January 17, 1994

Scott Putski pinned Iron Mike Sharpe with the Polish Hammer

Rick Steiner fought Ludvig Borga to a double count-out

WWF IC Champion Razor Ramon defeated Jeff Jarrett via disqualification when Shawn Michaels interfered

WWF World Champion Yokozuna pinned Tatanka with the Bonzai Drop

The Quebecars defeated WWF Tag Team Champions Marty Jannetty & the 1-2-3 Kid to win the titles following the Tower of Quebec on the Kid

Owen Hart won a 30-man Royal Rumble match by last eliminating Fatu; the last four men in the ring were Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Fatu, and Owen; Michaels eliminated Bret; Owen eliminated Michaels after Razor Ramon came ringside to distract HBK; order of entry: Diesel, Moe, Butch, the 1-2-3 Kid (the Kid suffered an injury on his elimination causing him to miss the PPV Rumble), Scott Steiner, Iron Mike Sharpe, Samu, Bob Backlund, Jeff Jarrett, Virgil, Bam Bam Bigelow, Randy Savage, Adam Bomb, Sgt. Slaughter, Crush, Mabel, Jim Powers, Bastion Booger, Luke, Owen Hart, Rick Martel, Bret Hart, IRS, Johnny Polo, Scott Putski, Fatu, Marty Jannetty, Bart Gunn, Shawn Michaels, and Doink the Clown; after the bout, Bret returned ringside to celebrate Owen's victory

I'd mark if they brought back the House Show Rumbles...

It would revive the scene a little...

Brooklyn Brawler won either a battle royal or a Rumble at The Garden in 1993.

Didn't he also win one in either late-'97 or early-'98 to earn a title shot against HBK at MSG?

Yeah, Brawler got a shot against Michaels...

I'm still trying to wrap my head around that one. Was it his birthday or something?

I dunno...

It kinda reminds me of how Barry Horowitz ALMOST got a shot at the Intercontinental Championship when Jeff Jarrett was champ.

I dunno what's scarier: that 3 of those guys have had WWE championship matches in the last year, or that 3 of those guys have ME'd NWA:TNA shows in the past fortnight.

heh use to piss me off not having WWF Shotgun because there was a Battle royal going on classic one with current wrestlers of the day 1998.

I remember that one...

My favorite battle royal was the Main Event Battle Royal where Perfect won... but I never got why They had Perfect-Hammer-Shawn-Barbarian as the final four...

Dug the Tugboat/Hogan shit tho...

they should just make a WWE Tape of the best Battle Royals/Royal Rumbles

including the one where special Delivery Jones and Rocky Johnson was left and SD took a dive for him.

Are you talking about the one that Rock won right after he left the Nation? - I have that on tape somewhere, it's insanely good

Along with the MECCA of Battle Royales- The aforementioned Main event Battle royale...

I dug the royal in 1995 right after Shawn won the royal rumble...He walked outside for about 3 minutes and rolled in and DBS backdropped the FUCK outta him onto the floor and won beating the Eli Brothers to win it all...

I dug the IC title royale but hated the "Last two men in wrestle for the title next week" stip...that was shawn playing the SAME role as he did that one...

I want them to show the Battle Royal just before WrestleMania 15 again.

If just for the entrances...I liked how the announcers said "WHAT" when they went to the back for Gillberg.

EDIT: Oh, and for Jarrett and Owen's commentarry to it.

That IC title battle royal is one of my all-time favorite non-Rumble battle royales.

Also theres a good one on Best of WWF 20 with Bret, Martle, Tito & Hennig as the final 4.

If your talking about the one on superstars in February 95, HBK jumped over the top rope avoiding 10-12 pissed off people, causing major heel heat.

Bulldog DID win though.

Lawler pulled a HBK by hopping on one foot until Bret stepped on his foot causing him to have to put both feet down. HILARIOUS!
