Guest LJSexay Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 I LOVE EXISTENTIALISM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nietzsche and Dostoevsky are great. Anyway... Crawling by Linkin Park is actually about being physically abused. Tourniquet by Evanescence is about... suicide. :-/
Guest 5_moves_of_doom Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 "Epic" by Faith No More is about masturbation, so says Mike Patton.
Guest La Parka Es Mi Papa Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 And then there's In The Air Tonight, the other famous one.
Guest redbaron51 Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 "Epic" by Faith No More is about masturbation, so says Mike Patton. but Epic is a great masturbation song. N.I.B. by Black Sabbath is about Geezer Butler's past, not Nicotine in Black.
Guest Prototype450 Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 Me and a relative had a conversation about how that song Candy by Mandy Moore is about extacy or however you spell it. It was three in the morning and we both were tired.
Guest converge241 Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 i always thought disarm was about child abuse not abortion i dont get that at all about god called in either nevermortal..its just about depression (basically) she bop by cyndi lauper - masturbation (s)AINT marilyn manson- about Rose McGowan on the radio recently a DJ said Blue Monday was about Ian Curtis..i refuse to believe that bullshit "In a lonley place" - yes but not Monday
Guest Dmann2000 Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 Someone once told me "Harvester of Sorrow" was about Abortion
Guest Dmann2000 Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 And of course by now we all know Master of Puppets is about drug addiction
Guest The Metal Maniac Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 There's a few Metallica songs out there that are about Hetfield and his relationship to his mother. "Mama Said", obviously, but "The God That Failed" is also about his mother in a way - she refused medication, I believe, as she was a very religous woman. I'd say "Outlaw Torn" is about his mom too, actually. I have a question though - Can someone tell me what "Vera" from Pink Floyd's The Wall is supposed to mean in connection with the rest of the album? I've heard it suggested that Vera Lynn is the name of Pink Floyd's (The character, not the band) mother. Or perhaps it could be the name of his wife? Can anyone confirm this either way, or tell me what it's ACTUALLY about? Thanks.
Guest La Parka Es Mi Papa Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 Vera Lynn was a singer from the World War I era. I believe she sang that We'll Meet Again song at the end of Dr. Strangelove. I've never really listened to The Wall all the way through, but apparently, Pink's dad was in World War I, and he's remembering him. Or something.
Guest The Metal Maniac Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 WWI, or WWII? I honestly can't remember off the top of my head WHICH war it was that his Dad died in, but I'm pretty sure that it was WWII (Which would make sense, because I don't recall there being tanks in WWI. And there's that scene in the movie The Wall where Young Pink sees a train totally FULL of people - I've always assumed that it was supposed to be Jews on their way to the camps.) And yes, Pink does spend part of The Wall thinking about his father - That's what "Another Brick in the Wall Pt. I" is about, actually.
Guest La Parka Es Mi Papa Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 I was always under the impression that it was WWI, but either way, the idea is basically the same.
rising up out of the back seat-nuh Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 Vera Lynn was a singer from the World War I era. I've never really listened to The Wall all the way through, but apparently, Pink's dad was in World War I, and he's remembering him. Or something. Yeah, what he said. Vera Lynn was the forces sweetheart in WWII. She basically symbolised home to troops stationed away from home. She also, in many ways, depicts the era. Pink's (and I believe Roger Water's) dad died in WWII. So it ties in with "Bring The Boys Back Home" for the depleted troops returning from the war.
Guest converge241 Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 "Someone once told me "Harvester of Sorrow" was about Abortion " i dont get that at all
Guest subliminal_animal Posted July 4, 2003 Report Posted July 4, 2003 I once heard that Ludacris songs were really just about money, women and beating up people.
Guest caboose Posted July 4, 2003 Report Posted July 4, 2003 'The Unforgiven' by Metallica appears to me to be about child labour.
Guest DR PHIL Posted July 4, 2003 Report Posted July 4, 2003 I always got a vibe about someone being in a cult or a sect from "unforgiven" but the child labor thing makes sense.
LaParkaYourCar Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 "Someone once told me "Harvester of Sorrow" was about Abortion " i dont get that at all They're probably saying that because of the "you'll find where murder lies.......infanticide" line.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 N.I.B. by Black Sabbath is about Geezer Butler's past, not Nicotine in Black. I think you meant Nativity in Black. Either way, they got N.I.B. from Bill Ward's miniscule goatee, which they called a pencil "nib." The song itself is pretty self-explanatory. If I can find the interview where they talk about that, I'll post it.
Guest Steve J. Rogers Posted July 6, 2003 Report Posted July 6, 2003 On the Beatles song A day in the life at the end it has John Lennon talking about dying, is there any other songs that you know that have a hiiden meaning or something spooky? You mean beginning of the song, not the "Cran-Berry-Sauce" at the end.
Guest Steve J. Rogers Posted July 6, 2003 Report Posted July 6, 2003 Now you want to talk Beatles and hidden meanings, well we can have a field day with just all the "Paul Is Dead" shit through the years, even songs that were written during the Beatles days in Hamburg (1962ish) like "I'll Follow The Sun" ("One day you'll find that I have gone/but tommorow may rain so I'll follow the sun...) have been considered "clues" We can talk all we want about drug songs such as Lucy In The Sky, prostitution such as "Day Tripper" or homosexuality "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" (it was written for Brian Epstein, the Beatles manager who was gay) songs that you have to look closely at the lyrics to see what the hell the author is saying "I Am The Walrus" or songs that started out as one thing, then ended up meaning different things to different people like "Hey Jude" (Started as "Hey Jules" for Jullian Lennon then could be construed as Paul giving himself an okay to try to hit on Cynthia Lennon (not sure if Linda was in the picture yet) and John construed it as Paul giving him and Yoko his blessing) Steve
Guest saturnmark4life Posted July 6, 2003 Report Posted July 6, 2003 Perfect Day's about Heroin ain't it? Pretty amusing when everyone sings it at Jubilees, Royal birthdays, national events etc in the UK...
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 Perfect Day's about Heroin ain't it? Pretty amusing when everyone sings it at Jubilees, Royal birthdays, national events etc in the UK... That's the great thing about Lou Reed. If you're stumped by one of his songs, you can just say "It's about heroin, right?" and chances are you're absolutely correct. The management makes no apologies, however, for Metal Machine Music, which I think was more about sucking than anything else.
The Dames Posted August 1, 2003 Report Posted August 1, 2003 Tourniquet by Evanescence is about... suicide. :-/ Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I think that's wrong. Tourniquet is about Amy Lee doubting whether or not her soul will be allowed into Heaven. Dames
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Posted August 1, 2003 Report Posted August 1, 2003 "Take Me to the River" is an equating of teenage lust and baptism.

Tourniquet is about Amy Lee doubting whether or not her soul will be allowed into Heaven. Dames really... I've heard the suicide deal from several places, but eh. I believe you much better anyway although, if you think about it... would her soul be allowed to heaven if she had killed herself? mm? MM? oh yeah... I can cover up plot holes too.

Guest Vitamin X Posted August 3, 2003 Report Posted August 3, 2003 I always thought Hotel California was based off of Dante's Inferno...
