Sickest bump ever

Recommended Posts

Guest Dangerous A

Who is Akira Takayama?

I know of an Akira Taue. I know of a Yoshihiro Takayama. But who is Akira Takayama?

And if his bump was sick, who was he facing, what was the date of the match, and what was the bump.

As I read the story, Takayama was wrestling for New Japan in the late 80's, and did a dive out of the ring. He landed wrong, and broke his neck, and was paralyzed. What makes this story stick out for me, is that he was never seen in public again, and his name is never spoken. It's one of those things that people there just do not talk about for some reason.

One of the backdrop drivers that Doc gives to Kobashi in their legendary early 90's match. Simply fucking brutal.

Hansen. Kobashi. 93. Lariat. Kenta Kobashi, dead as a doorknob.

Both times that Sasuke cracked his skull.

The first was a dive on either Ohtani or Ultimo, the second was getting powerbombed off the apron to concrete by Dos Caras. SICK. AS. FUCK.

Then there's Debbie Malenko breaking her leg.

No love for the gansobomb?

If not that, then the Tiger Suplex off the ramp in the latest Misawa/Kobashi is very sickening.

Curry, I whole heartedly agree. Absolutely DISGUSTING.

Let's see, I liked Williams ringing Kobashi's bell three straight times with the Homicidal Backdrop Driver in 93...

Akiyama took a totally vertical Burning Hammer that was just DISGUSTING...

Sickest bump ever, in the entire world, would easily go to New Jack's murder attempt on Vic Grimes in their scaffold match in XPW.

But in Japan, hell, there are dozens of juniors matches where some poor soul went SPLAT onto the concrete. If you're talking heavyweights, Doc dropping Kobashi onto the top of his head three times in a row in '93 was probably the most brutal minute of wrestling that I've seen.

Side note, funniest bump ever: when Tiger Jeet Singh accidentally caught onto one side of the exploding barbed wire and it went off on him during his jungle death match with Onita. Had me crying on the floor with laughter.

Just a few of many that spring to mind:

Dynamite and Tiger Mask taking turns piledriving each other on the outside of the ring in their 2/3 falls match

Liger's top rope ddt (dangerous driver?) against Benoit and Owen

In 7/29/93 when Kobashi ran into Hanson's boot in the corner. This was considerably worse IMO than the lariat at the end.

On one of my tapes, Sasuke lays out someone on a table on the outside then goes to the top and performs the most perfect looking swanton ever. Of course, he completely missed the table and splattered all over the floor, but thats besides the point, it looked great and sick all at once.

I don't know the date, but there's a Psicosis vs. Ultraman match from Tijuana, where Psi tries a head-first dive off the top to the floor, and was supposed to go through a table propped at a 45 degree angle against the barricade. Well, when UM moved, so did the table, and Psi just SPLATTERED himself on the cement. Earlier in the same match, he tried moonsaulting Ultraman through a table off a LADDER, (on the floor of course) and came down in between the table and the ladder. He immediately got right back up. I found it astounding.

"Then there's Debbie Malenko breaking her leg."

"What happened here?"

I don't remember the participants but it was a tag match in Japan. In the middle of the match one of her opponents did a pescado and when Debbie went to catch her her leg buckled in a very sick fashion causing it to break. Afterwards, the women who gave her the pescado got up and started kicking her right on the broken leg until realizing what had happened. Malenko had to be helped out and her partner had to finish the match alone.

I don't really consider accidental injuries coming from botched spots to be "bumps." I mean, not to be tasteless, but that would mean that Owen Hart's death was a bump.

I vote for the gansobomb.

Mindless, your match in question was Sasuke and Tiger Mask IV vs. Gedo and Jado for the IWGP Jr. Tag Team titles from 2001. And yes, that was indeed another crazy Sasuke skull-cracking bump.

IIRC, January 16th/18th 1996.

Kintaro Kanemura getting powerbombed into fire. Not a flaming table, a section of the ring that was lit on fire.

To me, the first Backdrop driver in Jumbo/Kawada 10/91 always came off sicker than any of the Backdrop drivers in Kobashi/Williams. Kawada didn't roll through with it all, he landed on the back of his head completely vertical and froze that way for about a second like he was literally planted into the mat.

The Backdrop Driver that Kawada took off Kobashi in 10/96 draw is also sicker, because Kawada actually bounces off the top of his head(no exaggeration!). I would place it over the bump in10/91, but I think Kobashi was suffering from fatigue, and fucked it up, because botched moves shouldn't count.

Just for Puroresu though, Lyger took a botched Senton from Togo at the Sky Diving J (it ended up looking like Togo slid over Lyger with his feet)

If I'm not mistaken, that may have been the point that Kobashi broke his cheekbone in the match. If you go back and watch the match, Kobashi's cheek is black from the broken bone and they showcase it in a still photo at the end of the tv show.

the sickest one I seen from the tapes I got, i suppose wouldn't be considered a bump...

.

was in W*ING when Gedo Powerbombed Kanemura onto the Fallen Torch and set his back on fire during the Fire Scramble Deathmatch...

geez make Kane look like such a pussy, Kanemura gets burned.....then actually Stands up and Does a Promo! before being carted away.

Kandori-Hokuto--Dreamslam 4.2.93--you probably heard of the match

in the middle of the match Hokuto was piledriven on a non-gimmick table. The camera sickenly went to focus on the spot where she hit her head.

In way of bumps, and non accidental injuries, I was laughing very, very hard when I saw a marufuji Misslekick for the first time. So preeeeetty....

THE DROPKICK, NOT MARUFUJI!!

A close second would be the piledriver that The Great Muta took from Hiroshi Hase in the early 90s.
