Guest Anglesault Report post Posted June 26, 2003 First of all, I just want to say that I have no idea how long he's been doing this, as I haven't been paying attention at all until recently. He could have been doing this his whole career for all I know. Anyway, I've noticed this on a couple of Raws as well as Backlash and Bad Blood that I'm watching now. When Ric enters the ring, the referee sits on the ropes and holds holds them for Ric to enter. Does he do this out of respect for the man, or is there some physical reason why Ric can't enter (which makes zero sense, considering that he does bump)? Guest Downhome Report post Posted June 26, 2003 He's a cocky bastard, what else is there to say? He's earned his right to be cocky, he be da greatest.
Guest Steviekick Report post Posted June 26, 2003 I know what you mean. I do remember for a while he motioned before he'd come into the ring for the ref to hold the rope for him.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted June 26, 2003 Was the ref for those matches Little Naitch?
Guest Downhome Report post Posted June 26, 2003 By the way, if this is some excuse to call him "old", get over that. He's the "greatest of all time", it fits his gimmick perfectly.
Guest Steviekick Report post Posted June 26, 2003 The whole thing is making him being arrogant and being above the ref and making him hold the rope for him?
Guest Downhome Report post Posted June 26, 2003 Was the ref for those matches Little Naitch? Speaking of Lil' Naitch, I loved their work together. I was really impressed to see Charles come out and just do that, being "just" a ref and all.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted June 26, 2003 Was the ref for those matches Little Naitch? This one (Bad Blood) looks like Hebner
LooseCannon25 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2003 He does that as part of his gimmick. It's like he's too classy to go through the ropes himself so he makes someone else and scrubby like the ref hold the ropes for him.
ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2003 I think that's part of the charm of Ric Flair... He's so cocky and arrogant in a stylish way, he makes the referee hold the ropes for him when he gets in the ring. That's my assessment of him.

It's like he's too classy to go through the ropes himself so he makes someone else and scrubby like the ref hold the ropes for him. I figured that, but I kind of doubted it a little because a) The ref never puts up a fight and b) JR isn't damning him to hell for it.
Gert T 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2003 I know he's done it in some NWA matches in the late 80's, so he's probably done it off-and-on most of his career.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted June 26, 2003 Exactly, this has been going on since the early days of his career, it's nothing new.
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted June 26, 2003 I think if Flair couldn't physically get into a wrestling ring by himself, he wouldn't be wrestling.

Guest Fook_Hing_Ho Report post Posted June 26, 2003 I always figured it was the cockiness and arrogance of the character because I don't remember it happening when Flair's a face. Of course, I probably just have selective memory.
