They did have troops in Vietnam after WW2, fighting against Communist forces. After the French were defeated at Dien Bien Phu in 1954 the French withdrew all their forces from Vietnam.

I have to say I do like the products that come from France. Croissants are my favorite food, for example. They also make sexy lingerie that is always nice to look at (on a woman, not a guy). Then there is the wine. They do have a nice selection of products.

Personally I prefer Italian wine to French wine, at least as far as the ones from the semi-affordable bracket are concerned. Italian wine is bolder and has a lot more bite to it, from my experience. French wine is milder and more subdued, which is why many like it but not so much my thing.
