That said, I don't think any human being on the face of the earth can deny how freaking awesome Johnny Cash and his music are. I'm not sure if it's actually labeled "Country" or not, but they seem to play it on CMT a lot, and that's enough for me. And his video for "Hurt" is one of the best ever. SO powerful. I do enjoy the Wu-Tang Clan, DMX, A Tribe Called Quest, Public Enemy, and Run-DMC as far as rap goes. Even in rap I really like the more old school acts like Run DMC, NWA and Ice Tea. About the only newer band I listen to is Cake. Originally he was rockabilly, then Nashville sound country, then outlaw country, then traditional country and his folk roots and gospel roots began peaking through with the first American Recordings album. I was fucking lucky to get a ticket as well, I paid £165 after someone pulled out, which wasn't bad considering what others were paying at that late stage (around april). I agree with El Satanico's point though, I cannot and will not dismiss any entire genre. Generally (Genre-ally?) speaking I dislike music that can be placed into a specific genre, but The acts I mentioned in my first post are classic, pioneering examples of their respective genres, and huge influences on a variety of modern movements. Also I really like what I've heard from Miles Davis and John Coltrane. Then again, I like jazz in general, even if it's not something I constantly listen to (I should look into listening to it more frequently), so that probably doesn't count. It bugs the hell out of me when someone spews strong dislike of something and in the same breath mentions something they like from whatever they claimed to hate. i don't see what's so bad about it. people make generalizations with exceptions all the time, & i don't see anything wrong with it. i have an intense, vile hatred for about 95% of pop music, but i love michael jackson. does my love for michael jackson make me hate britney, backstreet boys, avril, 98 degrees, destiny's child, and countless others any less? no. does michael jackson somehow cancel out the effect that those others have on pop music? no. jackson's the exception, not the rule. you can still hold a general principle while acknowledging that there are a few abnormal cases.
