Favorite Platform Games of All Time

Recommended Posts

Okay kids, on another thread, someone mentioned Dolphin for the 2600, and seeing as my mind goes off on tangents, I came up with this question:

What were the best games on each platform, going back as far as you can remember?

For me, the list goes like this:

Atari 2600: Seaquest/Stargate (tie)

Atari 5200: Pac-Man (I was SO starved for a real translation, that this was the only game I had for the 5200)

Atari 7800: Pole Position

Intellivision: Advanced Dungeons and Dragons: Treasure of Tarmin

Colecovision: Donkey Kong (see above for why)

NES: Baseball Stars

Genesis: (tie) NBA Live 96/Street Fighter II Special Champion Edition/Super Street Fighter II

SNES: Lufia II

3DO: AD&D Hack

Neo-Geo: Metal Slug 2 or X

N64: Rogue Squadron

Saturn: Street Fighter Alpha 2 (perfect translation, AND a gauntlet mode)

PSX: Street Fighter Alpha 3

PS2: (tie) Smackdown SYM/Baldur's Gate

Gamecube: Rogue Leader

I never fooled with an XBox long enough to have a favorite.

This was tough as I had to flashback more than 20 years, when my mother bought me a Sears Tele-Games (atari 2600) in 1980 (or was it 81?) and come forward in time.

Your lists?

All right all right, I used the wrong word.

substitute "console" for "platform" and try again.

::sighs:: thank you, Sakura-chan, I knew I could count on you. :)

hmm, the only game I played for the DC with any kind of regularity was Virtual On...

I'll have to second Final Fight on Sega CD, and put Shadow Squadron for the 32X

These are my current opinions as it is pretty damn hard to pick things like this.

NES: Megaman 3

Master System: One of the sonics

Genesis: Sonic 3 added onto Sonic and Knuckles

SNES: Mario World or one of the Megaman X games

Sega CD: Snatcher and I'll be dammed if anyone says anything else.

32X: Blackhawk (I think thats the name...haven't touched the cart in ages)

Neo-Geo: *head hurts* Either Metal slug 3 or King of fighters 98...oh wait or Mark of the wolves.

N64: Zelda

Saturn: Viruta fighter 2

PSX: Either Resident Evil 2 or one of the Megaman X games.

Dreamcast: Now this is the hardest...tossup between King of fighters dream match, Mark of the wolves or Street fighter Alpha 3...oh and Sonic adventure 2 or Street fighter 3 double impact...also can't forget Soul Calibur and Virtua Tennis...

PS2: Capcom vs SNK 2

Gamecube: Zelda

X-box: Halo

Gamegear: Sonic 2

Gameboy/Pocket: Mario land 2

Gameboy color: Pokemon gold/Silver

Gameboy advance: Final fight one

Neo geo pocket: King of fighters R-1

Neo geo pocket color: Match of the millenium.

Wonderswan color: Megaman EXE WS or Guilty gear petit

3DO: The need for speed.

Commodore 64: Ghostbusters

Jaguar: I dont have one, piece of crap.

MSX: Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake

NES -- Super Mario Bros.

SNES -- Super Metroid with Yoshi's Island a close 2nd or so.

Genesis -- Sonic 2 or Sonic 3 & Knuckles (although it has a ton of other great games I still have).

Sega CD -- Probably Lunar but I never played it until it PS version came out, so in its stead either Mickey Mania or Sonic CD.

32X -- The flawed but likable Knuckles' Chaotix

Saturn -- VAMPIRE SAVIOR!! Capcom rules.

Playstation -- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Konami rocks.

n64 -- WWF No Mercy.

Dreamcast -- Too many to choose, but I'd say I play Powerstone 2 the most.

GBA -- Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow. Konami still rocks.

Playstation 2 -- Devil May Cry or Klonoa 2 (Capcom rules, and can Namco quit crapping out Tekkens and give us more Klonoas?)

Gamecube -- Metroid Prime

Gunstar Heroes was one of the best games that not many knew about.... my friend even made a Video World RPG national anthem from the main theme song.

Ahh those were the days.....
