I listen to Acid Bath thanks to AoO, a LOT more U2 then I used to because of Barron and the majority of songs on Jubuki's top ten of all time.

Same here. CoreyLazarus and Agent of Oblivion helped further my already booming metal taste where my friends had showed it to me and chilled with me listenin to it and I grew to love it more. Though everyone has a contribution in things I learn.

I don't really want to get into an arguement about this, because if you feel it then thats all that matters, but Dream theater is some of the most pretentious shit I've ever heard. You can play your instrument well? Good for you! Now go and learn how to play it right. You know, with like feeling and stuff. It's like people such as Dio or Bert Jansch(sp?). Good technicaly, but they can't write a fucking tune to save their life!

 

Having said that, "Home"(?) is a pretty good song. At least before they go all fucking prog rock with it.

I got into that argument with the board like a month ago, but in truth I was arguing for the sake of arguing. They are pretty much my favourite band, I just tried to make a point that I feel still stands. Ah well. James has a pretty awesome voice, great range and all. It's just that it's very traditional and sounds as if he *Gasp* ACTUALLY TOOK VOCAL LESSONS! The band as a whole seem pretty traditionalist, I mean, they all have an insane amount of talent that one can recognize easily. It's like someone went and picked the best musicians out of Souldrums and NCM and put them in a band that they play great together in. The more that I think about it, the more I realise that most of the teachers in my music school are way more talented than any of the crap I hear on the radio these days, like Nickelback, staind, etc. But I digress. Listen to James' rendition of O' Holy Night for proof of his awesomeness.

 

I got into a lot of Indie goodness through this site thanks to guys like Inc. and Kinetic, but they're gone, so I don't get much out of it anymore. I don't predominantly listen to metal, so I don't try to look for whatever I can. I just listen to the usual suspects, like Slayer and In Flames.

I wish Inc and Kinetic hadn't left. Now I have to rely on my girlfriend for hip indie bands...I mean what the hell kind of band name is American Football? Actually that Danse Macabre CD by The Faint makes good mood music though. Anyway...Inc, Kinetic, come back! I need you to tell me what to download...help me find another Material Issue! Yep. After reading it in every other post, I figured "what the hell." And what a good hell it was.

 

Actually that Danse Macabre CD by The Faint makes good mood music though.

 

It is a fun one. Nothing too groundbreaking, but very exciting, danceable, and well-produced. That first track is a killer. In a similar vein, I'll recommend mountains of Depeche Mode (specifically Violator and its uber-dancy "Policy of Truth" and "Enjoy the Silence"), as well as some of Tricky's rockier moments.

 

In fact, consider this an all-call for everyone to download his cover of Public Enemy's "Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos," on Maxinquaye and called simply "Black Steel." It's frickin' great, and if you can get someone to mix it up as a centerpiece of a Faint/Depeche Mode/Thick-Synth-Rock Mix, it'll tear the dancefloor apart.

Nobody has really influenced my tastes to a great degree. If I was into metal then maybe someone would have turned me on to something. I think posters like Kinetic/Inc and godthedog have a general taste similar to mine but by and large like different bands and artists. You could do worse than check out some of the stuff I mention though honest!

The only thing I've tried out purely because of this board is MST3K from the TV folder, and I really love that now, soif I see anything that intrigues me in here, I'll try it out. Alas, so far, nothing has.

AoO: not bad, not bad at all. I haven't had the time to give them a fair listen, but it seems good so far.

 

Oddly enough, I've known this band existed for a while, but I never even bothered to check them out. I saw the name on Darklyrics.com while browsing for something, but figured if you liked them enough to steal their name, then they were probably some death metal band that I'd hate.

 

Just one of those book and cover lessons, I guess.
