Flair shoots

From another board:

The current issue of Raw Magazine has arguably their best article ever. Flair talks bout the politics surrounding all 16 of his title reigns.

He's brutal towards some people, particularly DDP, who he says is "in a chapter of my [forthcoming] book called 'Where Are They Now?' That's a chapter of guys I lost to who nobody's ever heard of." Ouch!

He also has negative things to say about Herd and Bischoff, of course. He calls Herd "the all-time asshole, second only to another guy who came along later on [bischoff]." He goes into detail about bringing the NWA belt with him to the WWF. We all know the story by now, but it's interesting to hear Flair tell it in his own words.

On Windham: "He was one of the greatest workers who ever lived."

On Bret: "I was never able to have a good match with him...It was a terrible match [when he dropped the belt to him]...I wish I could've given him a match that he deserved to win the World title in...I could hardly move."

On the Royal Rumble: "...One of the top 3 or 4 greatest nights of my life...It built all the self-esteem back in me that I had lost during the time Crockett sold the company to Turner."

On WCW: "The last 2 years of WCW were just a nightmare for me."

On the von Erichs: "I was very close to David. I felt like the von Erichs had a lot of issues and problems that weren't being dealt with. But it wasn't my place to say that."

On JCP: "Had we stayed east of the Mississippi, Crockett would still be in business...but he insisted on trying to compete with Vince on the West Coast and that's what killed us. They blew all their money on travel. We weren't drawing enough money to cover it."

On '89 classics with Steamboat: "I went to WCW with the idea of bringing in Steamboat, who had just left Vince...Let's get some stabilization, let's make the title mean something again. To have those matches at that time, during such turmoil, was even more phenemenal. There were so many people who didn't want that to happen. It taught me a lot about life and about our business."

Tons more. Must-read stuff.

Why is Flair always down on his matches with Bret- they were great.

I also don't get why he hates DDP

--They could have been all time classics....they weren't. And I'm going to go by what both Ric and Bret say on this one because neither are the most self deprecating athletes.

I also don't get why he hates DDP

-- Because for 20 years Ric Flair was putting on ***** clinics while DDP was runningt a nightclub and only became a wrestler because of Bischoff. Plus he sucks.

Heh, nice to Flair conveinently forgets to mention how he didn't want to do the job before walking away like a lil bitch...

Well, they wouldn't give him his deposit back. Ya can't blame Flair on this one.

Eh? I'm talking about why he left in the first place(not wanting to put Luger over AGAIN). I could care less about the damned deposit.

From what I've always heard it wasn't the idea of jobbing to Luger that irked Flair, it was that he was basically told he wasn't going to contend anymore and was going to have to take less money. Either way, Herd was a moron for letting Flair leave without forcing him to job the title.

DDP also worked his ass off and paid his dues to become a successful wrestler and I don't think he sucks. He, like Flair, has a true love for the business and Flair shouldn't insult him like that

Flair's too hard on himself. In my opinion, the Bret vs. Flair matches weren't terrible at all. Their Iron Man Match in early 1993 is one of Flair's best matches ever.

Okay, yeah DDP did work hard...but I mean its Ric Flair if he wants to say somebody was a nobody...well he can because he's the one of, if not the best wrestler of all time. He sees DDP as nothing wrestler, thats his opinion, yours is different, but i'm thinking his opinion means more as he has worked with him, been in the same ring, its not like your arguing with another smark about the merits of DDP, your saying "Ric Flair, one of the greats... You are wrong...because I like DDP, and because of that you should too."

I just think Ric Flair is being a little disrespectful towards DDP. He doesn't have to praise his ring work but calling him a nobody is a bit harsh

A terrible match against Bret? Ha! That match was classic when he dropped it.....not as good as it probably could of been, but still a classic.

DDP was a horrible wrestler. He was a great manager though. Flair has every right to say what he said about DDP, he fell into the business.

Guest bob_barron

I wouldn't call DDP a horrible wrestler at all. This is the guy who carried Goldberg to a good match.

However he got into the business is irrelevant. The guy paid his dues, worked his way to the top and has a genuine love for the business.

DDP could've just sat out his Time Warner contract but he wanted to wrestle for the WWF and he took less money to do so. It's obvious he had a passion for the business.

I think Flair doesn't like him cause of his friendship with Bisch

Classic because it was Bret's first title win, yes. It was very unexpected and exciting. There isn't too many of these but that was one of the worst matches I've ever seen Bret Hart in.

Were you on drugs while watching the match?

I think Flair was on drugs for that match. He was all over the place. I think Bret even meantion that in his RF Shoot.

I thought you left FearHavoc.

I've seen three Bret v. Flair matches and all have been great. I think the dislike that they have for each other is probably why they frowned on the matches

I never knew they had dislike for each other. Well, you learn something new everyday.

When did Flair feud with DDP? In 1999? Flair shouldn't have been around then and shouldn't be around now. Flair can call DDP a nobody because he's a legend? What would the tune be if Bret Hart called RVD a nobody?

That wouldn't happen since RVD has more then paid his dues. DDP on the other hand will be argued for years whether he paid his or not.

I came back to announce my love for you, big boy.

Seriously, boredom wins over pride.

Pure laughter from me.

Let's see- He worked his ass off in WCW to get to the top of the promotion. He improved leaps and bounds as a wrestler during this time. He wasn't handed a push right off the bat.

Guest FeArHaVoC

Flair isn't the only one who thinks that way. Remember that Confidential when Hogan and other guys said DDP was a joke and only became world champion because of who he was friends with? But then again, that was the same segment that Hogan said Bret Hart was the reason for WcW's down fall.

And wasn't DDP known for being an asshole backstage in WcW? Pretty much the reason everyone gave him Hell once he came to the WWF.

Karma

To compare RVD to DDP is ludicrous...RVD built his name in the indepenents and had a huge following before hitting the WWF which after an initial push has laxed in its push...DDP on the other hand was good on the mic, so he gets into WCW where he proceeds to absolutly suck..but he got one thing over th "Diamond cutter" from there WCW PUSHED his worthless ass to the moon, one of the first to stand up to the nWo, beating savage, world title... To compare them is to not know wrestling.

I agree that the jury will be out on Page for a long while, but I feel that DDP was more than a nobody. I think people often get caught up in the whole Bischoff friendship, and forget that Page worked really hard with Malenko and the Guerreros who would carry him as needed and show him the ropes, and by working with talented opponents, he not only looked like he knew what he was doing, but eventually learned to wrestle well, and did carrying of his own, against Fuck Goldberg. So I give props to Page.

Guest TheGame2705

But really DDP's done the same if not more than RVD. DDP's beaten Randy Savage, won the WCW World title twice, etc.
