Guest FeArHaVoC Posted July 4, 2003 Report Posted July 4, 2003 This week's Rollingstone Magazine features a Readers Poll on the 20 Greatest Live Acts in the world. Here are the results: 1. U2 2. Radiohead 3. Bon Jovi 4. Dave Matthews Band 5. Tori Amos 6. Phish 7. Metallica 8. PJ Harvey 9. Nine Inch Nails 10. Gun's n' Roses 11. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band 12. Pearl Jam 13. Bob Dylan 14. Tool 15. Prince 16. Widespread Panic 17. The Roots 18. Red Hot Chili Peppers 19. No Doubt 20. The Rolling Stones And I thought VH1 was bad!
Guest The Hamburglar Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 Although list-bashing of populist lists isn't usually my thing, I'm surprised that a mainstream magazine forgot to put Manson on there. The man defines pure showmanship, plain and simple.
Guest Choken One Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 where did they get PJ Harvey from? What about Ozzy? Manson? Hell even fuckin limpbizkit had a better live show than RHCP.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 I agree with a lot of the list, but unfortunatly having Chilli Peppers on there makes the whole thing null and void. And Guns and Roses. Pay 50 bucks to see Axl cough!
Guest Shaved Bear Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 well having only seen metallica and bruce...they are very good candidates for the list, everything else though...i cant picture them being god as for GnR...how can they judge Axl either caqncels or sounds horrible
rising up out of the back seat-nuh Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 Radiohead = stunning Dave Matthews: I caught the guy playing a free solo gig while bunking off on a uni trip to London. Bear in mind that absolutely no-one in England has the sightest clue who the guy is (apart from US ex-pats). The guy was stunning, one of the best gigs I've ever seen. Got the album. It sucked. More than anything in the world ever. For my money, that list needs The White Stripes and The Hives.
Guest redbaron51 Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 RCHP are hit and miss when it comes to live shows. and no Who...bah
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 For my money, that list needs The White Stripes and The Hives. Kidding right?
rising up out of the back seat-nuh Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 For my money, that list needs The White Stripes and The Hives. Kidding right? Nah dude. They're the only two bands (at least out of those who Rolling Stone cover) who have completely converted me from hate to love with one gig.
Guest mesepher Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 this list is great, fantastic, couldn't be closer to the truth.
Guest Narcoleptic Jumper Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 I'd say Weezer should be on there.
Guest Choken One Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 ^ Throw Creed on that "Hated them until Saw them Live and loved them" list. :DUCKS: what? It was GOOD damn it!
Guest redbaron51 Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 Is this the first list that doesn't have Nirvana tied in somehow.
Guest mesepher Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 Is this the first list that doesn't have Nirvana tied in somehow. I think it was a typo... they should be number one.
Guest redbaron51 Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 Is this the first list that doesn't have Nirvana tied in somehow. I think it was a typo... they should be number one. or somewhere so high up there.
Guest Choken One Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 No Madonna or Nirvana? Pssh. This is NOT a list. Idiots.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 Tool should be higher on that list. I've seen them once, and they were one of the most unbelievable live acts I've ever seen.
Guest JebusNassedar Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 My only live experiences were a gospel choir and Alice Cooper. But, out of the MANY live vids I have, I'm REALLY impressed with live Mudvayne. Yes, I know Dig's a bad song. But live, they play it nearly twice as fast. And a lot of their set (off L.D. 50) was much better live on CD. I cant listen to Prod unless it's live now. Oh, and early 60's-70's Alice ruled, from the three, four concert tapes I've seen. On the Hives and White Stripes...hbavent seen the Stripes live, but I REALLY like Hives live. my only gripes with hives, really, is that "Find Another Girl" crap on Veni Vidi Vicious, and the fact that their bassist uses a pick. I have no respect for bassists that use picks. Just my opinion, though.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 10. Gun's n' Roses Is that taking into consideration how bad they stall the crowd and how often they'll leave in the middle of a show. The Stones were the best act I've seen live.
rising up out of the back seat-nuh Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 I have no respect for bassists that use picks. Just my opinion, though. Amen brother. Real men do it with their fingers
Bored Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 Is this the first list that doesn't have Nirvana tied in somehow. I think it was a typo... they should be number one. or somewhere so high up there. From looking at the list I'd take a guess that it is based on acts that are still around and isn't an all-time greatest list.
Guest Scarlet Pimpernel Posted July 6, 2003 Report Posted July 6, 2003 The fact that Iron Maiden isn't on the list makes the whole thing redundant. To me atleast. And what about DIO!?
Guest Choken One Posted July 6, 2003 Report Posted July 6, 2003 DMB should be #2. Aw Bullshit. One of the most lackadasical shows I've ever endured in my LIFE... and I've been to the RHCP for pete's sake!
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted July 6, 2003 Report Posted July 6, 2003 Say what you will, but Slayer and Rob Zombie put on amazing live shows. What? No GWAR?!
Guest saturnmark4life Posted July 6, 2003 Report Posted July 6, 2003 U2. U fucking 2. Why don't we just kill all my brain cells and put coldplay on there? Oh, and those white stripes, wow. They played one good gig at the right time, at Glasto 2002, at Leeds the same year they played one of the worst sets I have ever, ever seen. Two extremes. The Hives impressed me though. Whilst this list has no meaning, Rammstein's absence is ghey. Who are Widespread Panic? Just curious.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted July 6, 2003 Report Posted July 6, 2003 Widespread Panic is a "jam" (read: "ghey") band in the states. And yes, Rammstien would be well served to be on the list.
Guest mesepher Posted July 6, 2003 Report Posted July 6, 2003 Widespread Panic is a "jam" (read: "ghey") band in the states. And yes, Rammstien would be well served to be on the list. read "ignorance"
Guest saturnmark4life Posted July 6, 2003 Report Posted July 6, 2003 They're an 'Ignorance' band? Is that like Sugar Ray?
Guest mesepher Posted July 6, 2003 Report Posted July 6, 2003 They're an 'Ignorance' band? Is that like Sugar Ray? no... I meant that about his post. Panic plays rock and roll... mixed in with some jazz, blues, soul, funk, and whatever else... Since you seem to appreciate some actual musicians you might dig them. Check them out, man.
