Pride FC for Playstation 2

Recommended Posts

Guest BifEverchad

Ok, I'm looking for a new game to buy for PS2. I was in my local game store, Electronic Boutique today and seen a couple that I have my eye on. One being, the PRIDE FC FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Now can anyone help me out and give me some info on the game. Some personal opinions would be nice. Like, whats the overall game play like? I'm a huge fan of all the wrestling games of the past, is it comparable to them? Whats the engine like? Hard? Easy? Other? How about the playbale guys?

Should I bite the bullet and get this for $39.95 or maybe a UFC game is better?

Any help is appreciated.

Bif

I think it's a great game. No doubt better than any of the UFC games. The engine is similar to the UFC Dreamcast games although much has been added to it.

Basically the game is awesome except for it's 3 downfalls.

1. A serious lack of play modes. There is no career mode so if you are dependant on that don't get it. However, if you like to book your own cards then it's not a problem.

2. The whole quick submission thing is a bit of a pain to me. I'm at the point where Nog is pretty much then only guy that can catch me, but earlier on it would be nice if you would be able to fight the move a bit better.

3. The fights end too quickly with strikers. Although this problem can easily be averted in some modes by cranking up the handicap on both wrestlers to 150%.

I think it's a great game and I still play it lots. I just book my own cards and everything and it's a blast.

Also, it's an amazing two player game. The problem is getting friends developed to the point where they are as good as you.

It's a very good game but once everybody reaches a certain level and gets the reversal timing down it sucks ass. A friend of mine and I played a 10 round fight of constant reversals barely even watching the screen. I agree though only Nog presents a challenge after a while. Still it is the best MMA game so far and I do believe a sequel is coming soon.

Thanks guys. But does it have a similar combination of moves and stuff like a wrestling game. SmackDown! or No Mercy perhaps?

The Create-a-Fighter alone takes you like 2 hours to work. There are some really cool striking combos you can develop. You can pick from a variety of music and moves, but in terms of look there isn't a lot of depth (still, A LOT more than the UFC games and maybe on par with the No Mercy selection.. actually a lil bit less. More closer to the WM 2k selection)

I call it the No Mercy of fighting games cause there is seemingly unlimited replay value (my friend owns it, but has since gotten tired of it because he played it non-stop for a month - so that kinda taints it). It's actually a pretty fun multi-player game as well, get a few friends and work a Grand Prix. The lack of modes is a problem (no season) and there's also a lack of fighters (though there are templates going around for the CAF)

Another problem is that fights rarely ever go to a decision and aren't very realistic (though it's the closest one yet, and it's near impossible to capture the realism of MMA).

It's a really fun game, but you should rent it before you buy it (if you can)

It's not like any wrestling game, the four buttons (Square, Triangle, etc) are used for punching and kicking (high and low), if you press two of them together you can either block (high or low) or go for a takedown. On the ground it's the same thing, but instead of a takedown it's a submission. There are running moves such as a flying knee or flying armbar.

For $40 I'd say it's worth it.

Its pretty sweet too. It has its good points and it has its bad points, but still a good buy.
