Guest pappajacks Report post Posted July 8, 2003 when he said he was never a Bret Hart fan or was he just playing his heel role? I understand the two men never saw eye to eye, but to not be a fan of Hart's work throughout his tenure in the WWE is shocking. Then again Lawler is the same guy who said on Off The Record that Ric Flair was very overrated.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted July 8, 2003 Jerry Lawler feuded with Bret Hart through most of his WWF tenure Why wouldn't he say he wasn't a big fan of his? You read too much into things. EDIT: Also Bret Hart has said Flair was overrated.
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted July 8, 2003 Yeah, Lawler has tooled on the Hart family for years...it's a tradition. It's kinda ironic if you think about it. He only liked Owen, and was right there when he passed.
Guest Aero Report post Posted July 8, 2003 If I remember correctly, the only time Lawler did like Bret was during the summer of 97 during the Hart Foundation/USA vs. Canada angle. I remember Bret was a guest commentator along with Vince, JR, & Lawler, who kept sucking up to Bret. Either JR or Vince asked him, "Since when did you become a Bret Hart fan?" Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 8, 2003 Of course...you would think it was a shoot comment...
Guest HellSpawn Report post Posted July 8, 2003 I guess he was playing his heel role. Bret said he was pissed about some King's comments about his Dad & Mom, but later they were ok.
Guest HellSpawn Report post Posted July 8, 2003 (edited) and of course, remember You-Know-Who is pitching him some lines. Edited July 8, 2003 by HellSpawn
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 8, 2003 The real story is if King was shooting with his Girls are to blame for Sexual Harrassment... JR seemed to brush that one away...
Guest The Old Me Report post Posted July 8, 2003 Okay, and what would warrant you thinking this was a shoot? Whoa, Kane no sold the stunner! HE'S SHOOTING!
SpikeFayeJettEdBebop 0 Report post Posted July 8, 2003 It prob. wasnt a shoot comment, but who knows, could have been. In my oppinion, Lawler sucked MAJOR ass on commentary tonight. I dunno but JR sounded fine, LAWLER SUCKS. YOU HEAR ME LAWLER????YOU SUCK ASS AT COMMENTATING EVEN WHEN SOMEONE IS TELLING YOU WHAT THE FUCK TO SAY!!!!!!!!!HAHAHAH...If I end up dead or bankrupt in a week or two, I'll miss you all......but that's not gonna happen because WWE won't sue me, they will just make fun of me and call me a DORK!!!WOOO HOOO,Bring it Bradshaw!Okay sorry for ranting and going a little crazy but I couldnt resist. Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted July 8, 2003 Lawler is an ass. He says stupid shit constantly, and fucked up kayfabe with the UnAmeri--Frenchies. He adds nothing to the show, I see no reason to keep him around. Whether he "shoots" or not is irrelevant because whatever crap comes out of his mouth is idiotic and needs to be ignored. JR is almost as bad.
Guest Nater Report post Posted July 8, 2003 Lawler has a few saving graces.. a rivalry with Bret is one.
Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted July 8, 2003 Lawler was better tonight than he was in ages IMO. He actually started telling jokes again.
Guest Shaved Bear Report post Posted July 8, 2003 Lawler was better tonight than he was in ages IMO. He actually started telling jokes again. Nothing like Lawler telling jokes
Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted July 8, 2003 Lawler has a few saving graces.. a rivalry with Bret is one. That was years ago when Bret was a hugely over babyface and King was a heel trying to be Heenan. Now King's a tweener trying to be Vince's right-hand perv. Guest The Old Me Report post Posted July 8, 2003 Lawler only seems better due to JR's rapid decline.
Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted July 8, 2003 Last thing I heard Bret and Jerry Lawler were on friendly terms after talking on an airplane ride not too long ago so I would say his comments are probably kayfabed. The King also seemed to be playing the heel here on Raw tonight as well for the Canadian crowd.
Guest CronoT Report post Posted July 8, 2003 Lawler only seems better due to JR's rapid decline. Yeah, no kidding. JR is in need of some serious prozac doping.
Guest Army Eye Report post Posted July 8, 2003 I wish Lawler would just decide whether he's a heel commentator or not. He even flip-flops several times in a single show sometimes. Sheesh..
Guest The Decadent Slacker Report post Posted July 8, 2003 Lawler hasn't been worth the shit he puts in his hair since he came back. At least before he was able to be a competent heel & was funny, back before he was all King of the Lecher Colony. JR is the saddest drop in ability ever. Hell, when Michael Cole & fucking TAZ are a better team, it's the end. Best line from JR: "What's a bad economy got to do with a wrestling match?" I hope Vince fed him just to add the ironic coals to the company's funeral pyre.
Adam 0 Report post Posted July 8, 2003 JR is way to over the top (see: No Way Out 2003), but I don't mind him. He doesn't even know half the wrestlers' finishing moves. He just says 'high impact move there by...' King is funny a lot of the time, but just stupid most.
Guest JaKyL25 Report post Posted July 8, 2003 That's what bothers me most about Ross (with the exception of when the hyperbole is so forceful that it really sounds like he believes deeply in the tripe he's spewing): he DOESN'T know the names of the moves anymore at ALL. Coach shares roughly the same group of wrestlers that Ross calls, but yet Coach knows all of the finisher names as well as the other "trademark" moves that the wrestlers do. Ross knows the finisher name if he's lucky. Quick, JR, what's Steven Richard's finisher? How about Molly Holly's? Cole and Matthews do a much better job over on the Smackdown side of things, even with such craziness as Spanky winning a match with a move called the "Mo Mo Latch". Back on topic, I assumed Lawler not liking Bret was in character. I too took some offense at his suggestions about women "deserving to be harassed." If he WAS a consistent heel announcer, it could very easily slide as a dickish heel remark. But he's not, he's a tweener announcer who usually BACKS women, even against most heels. Thus, it came across sounding like how he really felt. Whether he was in character or not there anyway, that's not the kind of message WWE needs to be sending out at the moment. I honestly think that if the actual competitive Women's Title division had been on Smackdown from the start, Cole and Tazz would have brought an air of legitimacy to the division that it's sorely lacking. I'm convinced that a MAJOR reason that we still hear "We Want Puppies!" chants even in the middle of a heated Women's Title match with an actual feud and story behind it is Lawler. He sees the Women's division as eye candy first, competitors second, so why should the fans be any different. So, in essence, Fuck Lawler. He should have stayed gone from the booth when he left before. Heyman took that ball and RAN with it. Too bad Lawler had to come back. Though I will admit, I did chuckle at one thing he said tonight that in retrospect was FAR too late in coming: Crowd: "We Want Tables!" Lawler: "This crowd wants tables? What, are they so poor that they don't have any furniture in their houses?" That was nice.
Adam 0 Report post Posted July 8, 2003 Yeah, he does make reasonable calls every now and again, but mostly its crap.
Guest God Junior Report post Posted July 8, 2003 "Crowd: "We Want Tables!" Lawler: "This crowd wants tables? What, are they so poor that they don't have any furniture in their houses?"" That's essentially a rehash of when he said "If you want tables, go to a furniture store." which he said a few years ago.
SpikeFayeJettEdBebop 0 Report post Posted July 8, 2003 I agree that Lawler only spews shit most of the time. IMO, they should pay Heyman shitloads of money to get himback on TV.He was always heel and is much better at doing most thinks than Lawler. Plus, as far as I know, all Lawler can do is announce, nothing else, except for a few matches here and there. Heyman will take small bumps if needed although its not and as I said, Heyman is just all around better in my oppinion. LAWLER SUCKS..........HEYMAN NEEDS TO COME BACK!...soon
Guest Nater Report post Posted July 8, 2003 The guy sticks what gains him the most recognition, thats a good thing I'd say. Whenever we get sick of him going on about puppies during a Jericho/Test match (Stacey), you bet your last dollar that if you bring up Bret or Kaufman or anybody else he has worked a long program with, that he is gonna throw out what you want reliably. When you have to love it or leave it, I'll love that he is predictable. I'll leave the puppies for non-wrestling. Edit: Oh yeah, trying to be like Early Heenan is a Good thing, not a Bad thing. Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted July 8, 2003 I know it was a good thing. JR and King were once considered great commentators because it was the closest our generation had to Monsoon and Heenan's heyday. However, JR turned into a "character," King turned into a stupid perv, and now they suck horribly.
Guest mach7 Report post Posted July 8, 2003 Jerry Lawler feuded with Bret Hart through most of his WWF tenure Why wouldn't he say he wasn't a big fan of his? You read too much into things. Guest Vyce Report post Posted July 8, 2003 Lawler only seems better due to JR's rapid decline. Seriously. And for the record, if Lawler retreating into his bag of old, tired, stupid jokes can be considered a good outing for him, than it's time for him to retire already.
