One thing that bugged me and this is pretty much an stupid to think to be curious about...

 

Why do the screwjob that way?

 

Why not do a Legit Knockout of Bret? Have HHH legit knock Bret out and let shawn pin him and run away before Bret recovers?

 

It doesn't make things look strange or anything...sells to the rubes that it was booked for HHH to cheat for HBK and VOILA...

I think he did. I remember sometime last year they were there and Earl was getting "You screwed Bret!" chants while doing the main event.

Earl Hebner's got a set on him the likes of which have never been seen then. I think they hate him there more than even HBK and Vince, because Bret honestly trusted Earl.

Question for anyone who thought Bret was unprofessionall back in 97--If you were in Bret's place wouldn't you have done the same thing? I know I would have. And for the record I do believe that Bret said he would've dropped the title to Michaels. Just not in Canada.

 

I was one of those fans that Bret didn't want to dissapoint in Canada. The next day when I heard the result of the match and that Bret lost (by sharpshooter, another insult) my heart sunk. I even thought to myself a little bit, "Bret how could you let them do that?" My dissapointment was changed to elation however when I found out what really happened. I was proud of Bret and still am.

The only reason it is still mentioned (a lot that is) is because Vince McMahon knows its something most fans will remember, and so he must make SOME KIND of refference to the Montreal Screwjob whenever they visit there!!

 

Hell, he even did it at SSeries 98 when Rock had Mankind in the sharpshooter, and Vince made the ring attendant to ring the bell.

 

Vince = needs to stop with booking around Bret Hart, when he's not even with the company, and on top of that, is retired.

 

One day though, Bret will appear again (Live) on WWE TV...its only a matter of time.

WWE has been to Canada and not mentioned it in the past. It's just that the fans are so obsessed over that one event, that they always chant about it.

 

It's hard to just ignore something like that, as it doesn't seem like it's going to go away.

The peak of popularity for Bret returning would of been 99-01. At this point, it's sad to say that nobody would care except us. I would hope he would come back and bury the hatchet once and for all so that maybe he can finally be happy. If his life is that miserable right now, than this little thing that's been bugging him since 97, the vented up frustration, needs to be let go.

 

Corny as this may sound, Bret and Canada can never be at peace with wrestling until they bury the hatchet and let it go.

I think Bret saying he didn't want to job in Canada was more a cover for not wanting to job to Shawn.

 

However, if I were from any country do a pro-'home' angle, I probably wouldn't want to job to a foreigner (and one I didn't particuliary like) in the 2nd largest city in that country.

I can see it from both sides of the coin.

 

I understand how Bret felt about jobbing to HBK. Imagine someone you absolutely hated basically being given your job after you've gotten another one over some people you think are much better for the job. If you had the power Bret had and the lack of consquences you would have most likely done the same thing.

 

I can also see where HBK is coming from. He did what the boss told him. I'm sure most people have done some things they didn't feel were right (no matter how HBK thought) after the boss told them to. I've fired some good friends but it was my job as much as I didn't want to.

 

I've been able to hold some grudges for along time over some trivial things and I can't compare them to someone embarassing me in front of lets say 100000 people or however hight the buyrate was. I've slso forgiven some pretty heinous things too so I can see how HBK says what he says about Bret.

 

I honestly would love to see Bret take HBK up on his offer for them to sit down face to face on OTR for an interview so they could clear it up.

 

The reason Vince always brings up the screw job in Montreal is its the easiest cheap heat there is. The hell with Foley's cheap pops, that's even easier in Montreal.
