Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2003 Hogan/Andre was the most anticipated match back in the day because of how it was booked and they were two of the five most popular wrestlers in the sport.... not to mention it was a different time back then. Smarks didn;t exist. We were all marks, to one degree or another. just enjoy the match and don't worry where its placed on the card.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted July 12, 2003 (edited) So, you're saying that Hulk/Andre could have opened the show? I don't quite see what your're saying. I want Angle/Lesnar II to be remembered by marks and held with the same regard as the huge matches, not fall into the "just another big match" pile. Unless it hits *****, it won't do that out of the ME. Edited July 12, 2003 by Anglesault
Guest Ray Report post Posted July 12, 2003 Somewhat on-topic- Am I the only person who thinks Brock/Benoit would be better than Brock/Angle II? Or even Rock/Brock II?
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 12, 2003 Rock/Brock would be more "Entertaining" Brock/Angle appeals a bit better then Benoit/Lesnar.. My order I mean shit...You could go hours with those four... Angle-Benoit-Lesnar-Rock. If I were starting a company...Those are the 4 guys you want... Guest Spaceman Spiff Report post Posted July 12, 2003 I want Angle/Lesnar II to be remembered by marks and held with the same regard as the huge matches, not fall into the "just another big match" pile. And rushing it out there on Vengeance wouldn't be the best way to accomplish that. There's been no build, no (non-sexual ) tension, no reason for them to face off so soon. You throw it out there w/ the way Kurt & Brock have been handled lately, it won't have the impact you want.
Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2003 what I'm saying that with the way big events were booked back then, it would have killed the crowd for Hogan/Andre to go out there at any point but the ME, as that was what people were paying money to see. Everything else was just filler by comparison, even though Savage/Steamboat stole the show. Bookers and writers had more common sense in those days. Why should you care what the marks want, as long as you are happy with the match?
Guest MARTYEWR Report post Posted July 12, 2003 Adding BS was Kurt's idea? WHY KURT WHY????!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why give away Lesnar-Angle II in a Smackdown-only PPV? That can be saved for next year's WrestleMania, I think. Big Show's had decent matches with Lesnar anyway, so I don't think it'll hurt the match that much. Well theoretically (and this is old school thinking I know, but it's still the rationale that's used in whether or not to continue a main event push) you're paying money for whatever the main event is and anything on the undercard that is worth your money is a bonus. So say SummerSlam features Goldberg-HHH and Brock-Angle II. Goldberg-HHH goes on last while Brock-Angle goes on the Savage-Flair spot. People buy SummerSlam based on Brock-Angle or the entire card as a whole and it draws the biggest buyrate in two years. Who's going to get credit for it? If you said anything other than HHH, you're not paying any attention. But if it bombs, who gets blamed? If you said anything other than HHH, give yourself a cookie. Basically, where the match places on the card could affect the direction of the future of the company. Back to the topic. My biggest argument with Show being included in this match, regardless of whose idea it was, is outside of the Cena match at Backlash he's been Lesnar's only challenger in four months. How many times does Show have to lose a title match before somebody else gets a one-on-one shot?
Guest Deviant Report post Posted July 12, 2003 I agree with JHawk's last comment. Big Show's 4 or 5 title shots, at least, have desensitised even the dumbest of marks. No matter how many irrelevant pins he gets over Lesnar, nobody buys him as World Champion... which is exactly why I fear WWE giving him the belt at Vengeance... Before you answer with "But that makes no sense..." think about which company you're talking about.

bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2003 Tell ya what, when Kurt holds the title for a full year, gets booked as a near indestructable heel, buries RVD, Kane, Booker T, and Jericho the amount HHH has, (or in this case, who? Mattitude, Cena, Benoit, Brock, and ???), then start whining about the hypocrisy. Yeah.... looking at the way Angle's been booked since his return, all the way to the ambigiously gay duo segments, complaining about Angle's supposed "politics" is completely laughable. He must be the worst backstage politician ever!!! Sounds like he wanted his singles re-match with Brock to be at Summerslam, instead of the filler ppv.
