Guest mach7 Report post Posted July 15, 2003 For "what it's worth" -- and considering the source, I'd say it's worth sweet-fuck-all -- but WWE is saying that the new US title has the lineage of the old WCW US Title... ...we've all had the "this title was absorbed into that title a long time ago" conversation before, so this thread is just another example of how much WWE must hate the whole concept of continuity. [ PS - I love how they have a hate-on for the French, yet they stick the Statue of Liberty on the side plates. Looks like their hatred of continuity extends into "real-world" history as well. ]
Guest Showstoppa Icon Report post Posted July 15, 2003 Cant. Take. Another. Lineage. Thread *head explodes* but seriously, i think its cool if they decide to try to associat the new US title with the WCW title. It seems liek theyre making an effort then. It seems liek theyre making an effort then. Billy Gunn is a contender. Given. I dont wanna sound like a wwe apologist, but at least they saw the error in their ways, and are now putting the title on either Benoit or Guerrero. Then that also begs the question why is Benoit fighting for the US title instead of the WWE title. See, everytime i try to defend wwe, it just elads me to something fucked up theyve done. Guest thetrendsetter Report post Posted July 15, 2003 They own the rights to WCW, therefore they're lineage can be whatever they want...
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted July 15, 2003 They can say what they want but this US Title has no lineage to the old US title that ended on November 18th, 2001
Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted July 15, 2003 Regardless of your opinion on lineage, the questions that I have are: Why the hell did they pick those 4 to represent "classic" US champions, though? I mean, I know that both Flair and Slaughter are presently on the payroll, and Hart will always be linked to the wwf/wwe, but is that reason enough to show them as the classic champions? Where's Tully? Where's Magnum TA? Where's Nikita Koloff? Where's Dusty? THOSE are the people that I think of when I think US title, not the four that they chose to use. Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 15, 2003 Exactly...But what about Melenko? Rhodes? Flair and Hart were never really known for their U.S title run But answerr me this...Is this the first Advertisement of Sting from WWE?
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted July 15, 2003 No- They've pimped him on Confidental and in video packages numerous times. No one even remembers Dean Malenko holding the US Title belt. Although I hope WWE does a Desire video like they did for the IC title
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 15, 2003 That's Sad since Melenko was the last good U.S champion... Then again look at the cast of champions at the time They could've put Steiner and Booker (whom feuded over that damn belt for years) They just wanted to put 4 legends up there whom held the title and were known to the common WWE fan... Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted July 15, 2003 The lineage doesn't carry over for me. One was a WCW title, and the other is a WWE title. They're not even close to the same thing. And for what it's worth, it's a stupid looking belt.
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted July 15, 2003 That's Sad since Melenko was the last good U.S champion... I thought Storm and DDP were very good US champs. Hell, even Goldberg
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 15, 2003 I forgot Most of Storm's run although it was fucking great... Page would have been better then Sting on the picture...

I know. To me, since WCW doesn't exist, then the WCW US title doesn't exist. I'm fine with the WWE US title, but I wish they'd start it fresh like it's suppose to be. Guest Retro Rob Report post Posted July 15, 2003 Does it even matter? Is this any different than WCW claiming their title dated back to 1900, when in reality it did not and no one cared either way? What difference does it make?
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 15, 2003 Because we can bitch about WWE here and that's our main objective.
Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted July 15, 2003 What pisses me off is that it would be so easy to do an entire Confidential episode on the US belt ... show old footage of the classic matches and promos, showing how people bled and fought for the honor of being the US champ. Making a newbie understand how important the belt was then might make them care more about the belt now.

Guest bob_barron Report post Posted July 15, 2003 Lex Luger was an awesome champion though-I wouldn't mind seeing him up there. The guy was champ from May 1989-October 1990

Guest Korgath Report post Posted July 16, 2003 I'm already looking at this title the same way I look at the I.C. Title - a belt that's TOTALLY different from it's predecessor. This one has no history, and it's the first champion and the first several defences which will raise it's image in my eyes. I think the same can be said for most marks out there.
