Actually, if you want to be technical...Ahmed gave up the title due to injury, and Marc Mero won a tournament for it.

Oh, and the WWE US title belt is no where NEAR as bad as one US title belt I saw that was used...the buckle part in the shape of the United States...

Besides...Who wants to carry a title that was on David Flair's Waist?

At least David Arquette knew it was a joke...

David likely yells it during sex

"YEAH BABY! FORMER U.S CHAMP HERE! WHOO! UNITED...UH...STATES....OHHHH...YES! CHAMPION OF THE OH FUCK YES! WORLD!"

Yeah, you're right... they don't care. Why should ANY thought at all be put into ANY title...

Why didn't they change the Big Gold Belt? Oh that's right, Hunter wanted it....

Actually, they have changed it somewhat.

From the original WCW World Title Belt, the one Hunter wears has two modifications:

1) The plates are curved now...

2) There's a WWE logo at the very top of the belt.

By 'curved' you mean 'fitted', right?

And you know what I mean! The US title had a drastic overhaul.

well, the US title looks like a great giant heaping pile of crap now.

That and out of hte major contenders, we've got a canadian and a mexican stereotype.

I'm not holding anything against them, but if you want to pick apart words...

EDIT: Screwed up on title contenders.

A work that is meant to look real. Realism is a key factor in wrestling - it makes it easier for the fans to suspend their disbelief.

The US title is just the old light heavyweight title with some patriotism thrown in...pretty much anyway

I was thinking the same exact thing when i saw it. Wow, how friggin stingy would that be if they did that. Even though X-Pac kept the original LH title.

The LHW title looked a billion times better than this piece of crap.

Nope. Marks dont worry about petty shit like Linage.

Since when is history and lineage petty? Last time I checked, it was lineage that added credibility to a title.

Yes. Yes. You are the only one. It's the worst belt ever. Those lil tiny belts that had the centre-plate as big as my fist back in the 50's, you know them? Yeah, THEY were better than this abomination.

So am I the only person that likes the new belt? Not that it is better than the old one, or the best belt around, but it has a certain uniqueness(is that a word?) about it that I like..

Unique isn't always good...

What honestly gives a title prestige is not who holds it, who held it, or how long its been around. The key to having a title work is that other people have want it extremely badly. Who cared that Stan Hansen was a former AWA champion when the only people fighting for it were Larry Zybsko and The Trooper? But get superstars fighting over a beer can as if their lives depended on having it in their possesion and you've got something with immediate credibility.

It's a combination of things which make a titles value, people competing for it definitely is up there amongst the top factors.

As Rudo says, it's a combination of things. I would certainly hope that winning a title that, say for example, Ric Flair held 14 times would be an incentive enough to want it. So, yes, lineage does add to the credibility of a title.

Okay, lets say that Mable wins the NWA/WCW Title and defends it against Savio Vega while Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, and Kurt Angle wander away from the belt and say, "Yuck, I hate that thing". Still prestigous?

Yes, still prestigious. Just because Mable wins it once doesn't mean that it's lost it's history. If anything it's more incentive to win it off of him. Devaluing a very historic title because a crappy worker holds it is pretty lame.

The WCW belt lost just about all of it's value when Arquette held it. And the rest of it after it started changing hands every single week

Its not that a bad wrestler has it, its that no one wants the thing that is the problem. The WWF title back in the 80s was arguably the most pretigous belt in the world at the time. Now Hulk Hogan, for all that he is, just isn't a classically accomplished wrestler. But when everyone and their mom wants his belt and will do anything in the world to get it (which was the situation as managers would basically form gangs so that one of their guys could maybe knock of the champion) the belt had value. Same deal in the NWA as Flair held the belt and had to watch out for half the roster all the time because every one of those bastards wanted to be the man. When you run into trouble is like when RoadDog wins the IC title from Val Venis and acts like he just won any other match. That's when a belt becomes meaningless.

Title Lineage is the absolute WORST part of trying to figure out wrestling history.

Here's how I see it...Titles have lay dormant for MUCH longer than the I-C and US titles and retained their lineages...it's not as though there is no precedent to wrestling promoters bringing back titles from the dead.

Look at it this way...I consider the belt currently held by Gail Kim to hold the same title lineage as the belts that Bull Nakano and Leilani Kai held, though many "purists" would consider those 3 seperate title lineages.

I also (disregarding the HORRID booking) consider the TV title that Hacksaw Duggan wore at the end of WCW's reign to be the same belt traded by Jericho, Benoit, and Company and the same belt Hall tossed in the trash. By the "IC/US is a new belt" theory, Duggan is the one and only holder of a brand NEW title.

Also, how many people consider Shawn Michaels, Davey Boy Smith and Triple H to have held a different version of the European belt than Kurt Angle, Eddie Guererro and Val Venis? Not too many, even though the belt was (and this is a quote) "retired" by Shane McMahon before being brought back by Mideon.

That's just my opinion, but then again, I consider the Lightheavyweight belt X-Pac reitred with the same belt that was part of Ultimo Dragon's J-Crown, and the belt AJ Styles is wearing to have a lineage back through Brisco and Thesz.

No, you're not the only one.

I like the style of the belt too. It gives a unique feel that is often absent.

I think the reason most people hate the new US title belt is because they wanted the old one with WWE logos on it.

This, I feel, is better.

I don't think most people remember Hacksaw's "reign." He mostly put it up against jobbers as WCW Saturday Night was on its last legs. The funniest part is they were trying to work storylines with guys no one's ever heard of.
