Will Jericho never be a full fledged heel?

Recommended Posts

Guest The Mighty Damaramu

Ok now I was thinking.....Jericho really isn't that big of a heel. I mean the fans don't go rabid for his blood like they do for HHH's. Is he suffering from the RVD effect? Wheras he is so good in the ring that the fans can't hate him?

Think about it. In most of the matches we've seen with Jericho vs. Face of the week the guy has gotten mad pops. Against Kane when Kane won the IC title the fans were chanting "Y2J" half-way through the match. And then in his match with Goldberg the fans were going crazy for him to.

What is it? Is it the fact that he is portrayed as this cocky-cool character? Or is it the fact that he's so small and he's taking the big man to town so the fans are jumping behind him? Or is he just so entertaining in the ring that the fans can't boo him?

I found myself thinking about that the other week when I was watching Jericho vs Michaels from Mania. When Jericho reversed Michaels hurricanrana into The Walls the place fucking exploded. More then half that crowd was behind Jericho and almost all of them were going apeshit when he was trying to get Michaels to tap. While he IS a very good heel it will only be a matter of time before he turns face and starts a program with HHH.......only to have HHH bury him again.

Um, what are you talking about? Most crowds absolutley HATE him. Did you watch last night? Even when he wasn't talking bad about Austin, he was getting booed out of the building. He gets cheered in Canada, yes. But he doesn't really get cheered anywhere else except for the odd crowd. Alot of heels get face reactions sometimes.

Yeah he gets booed when he's acting like a jackass and running his mouth. But he usually gets cheered whenever he wrestles.

I mean the fans were cheering him against HBK who is pretty damn over for godsakes. Watch they're going to go nuts for him whenever it looks like he's going to win against Shawn on RAW.

He gets cheered when he wrestles it seems everytime.

Didn't he get cheered against Nash? And I believe he got cheered against Steiner to.

Is there a face besides RVD that Jericho gets booed when he wrestles? Booker T maybe?

He gets cheered in the ring because he is 10 times better then everyone on the Raw roster, and the fans know it.

Of course he's a big heel. He gets more boos than anybody else, maybe out of the whole company when he comes to the ring. But he's the kind of heel that people actually like to boo, like a Kurt Angle. He's funny, and even if you hate him, you gotta admit he's entertaining.

I hate Jericho, but in a 'God I don't like him at all kind of way." But I'm living to learn to live with my strange tastes.

Apparently the lines have been blurred between faces and heels today.

Just look at any e-fed and you'll realise there are more heels than faces. Everyone wants to play the bad guy. Here's why:

Let's look at the slightly over faces on the RAW roster: HBK, Nash, Goldberg, Booker, RVD, Steiner.

Three fan-favourites... three not-so-favourite.

Jericho will ALWAYS get the face pop everytime he faces someone less popular, even though he's so over as a heel.

It should be noted that it took a good 10 months for HHH to get ANY heel heat and even then I wouldn't call him a 'monster heel'.

As for Jericho, he's just-another-cowardly-heel.

What show are you watching? Jericho and HHH basically get the same amount of heel heat, except HHH doesn't call the crowd a jackass every 5 seconds to maintain his heat. However, both of them are barely over. But really, who is over these days?

It can be argued that HHH was more over in those 10 months than he is now. But nobody is really over on RAW, except maybe Kane and Austin.

More 'over', yes (mainly for his entrance). Heel heat? No.

I think the reason that Jericho occasionally gets face pops is because he's still kept the line between who he really is, and the character he plays.

The reason people hate Triple H is because for him, that line has become so blurred, no one can tell if he's himself, or in character. I think the problem is, neither can he.

Hmm, this concept of Dudley Boyz 2001 heat intrigues me...

It was after the Dudz useless InVasion heel turn and they were pushed as unstoppable heel forces. They won both the WCW and WWF tag titles and when they'd come out their reaction would be their reaction would be cheers, boos, groans, all mixed together to form a wierd "OOOOOOOAAAAAHHHHHHHHWWWWWWWWW" sound that was drowned out by their entrance music.

Yeah but Jericho gets booed when he comes out. Says some colorful things....a few fans cheer b/c he's pretty funny but then he shuts them down.

Then he comes out to wrestle and the fans boo him. He gets in the ring and starts to take the big guy to town and then the fans start chanting his name.

I don't know if it's b/c he's just so damn entertaining in the ring or if it's the fact that the fans are seeing him take this unstoppable "face of the week" down and they start to cheer him for it.

Think about it. He had Kane down and almost tapping to the walls in that IC title match and shut Kane down on most of his offensive comebacks with his knee attacks. Then in his match with Goldberg he did the shoulder bit.

Jericho isn't a full fledged heel because he sucks as a heel now. He isn't funny, his promo work is horrible and his lines sound like they are being written by the 7 guys backstage. If they let Jericho write his own stuff, Im sure it would be good, but I dont see anything funny in him screaming "Hollywood" and using assclown and jackass as "insults". His 5 minute face work last week was good, but his heel work makes RVD look like Mike Sanders.

This was what Austin was talking about. Let the wrestlers do it themselves. Don't have everything scripted out to the minute detail. This is why everything wrestlers say has become so cliche.

Jericho is Raw's best heel. Triple H may only be #3 now (what with Kane) since he get's mild cheers, mild boos, or a combo of the two depending on where they are at.

If they want to rebuild Raw, I'd go with Jericho as the champ.

I'd actually agree that Jericho should be the champion in the near future (which is odd considering I hate him) but only as a face. I can buy the slipshod offensive package coming from a despirate face trying to battle back from adversity. But Jericho just doesn't have it in him to effectively beat someone to death which just seems very important for a top of the card heel to have. Even Ric Flair could make it look like he was actually about to hurt someone, but I've neevr gotten that feel from Jericho.

Jericho's pretty built for someone his size. I can buy him beating the shit out of someone. Hell all they got to do is reestablish the Walls as a killer finisher. And they can start in Hollywood with HBK tapping to it in the middle of the ring(like what should've happened at WM)

The problem isn't really Jericho's size since he's not much smaller or larger than Eddie Guerrero or Chris Benoit. The problem is Jericho doesn't ever appear to be really wailing on anyone. His kicks are more like nudges and his punches might as well have Rey Mysterio behind them. The Walls being just a Boston Crab just doesn't give the people the impression that he's actually doing anything painful. There just isn't any real fear of the hold anymore just like you don't see a whole lot of top rope bodypresses finishing people off.

He is more of the "irritating heel". Personally I think he is great, but he is the kind of heel that uses interference, and cheap heat to get over. I personally think he is great in the role and is over because of it.

Wow, then I can only imagine who you think is a good heel.
