I think this should be a state's rights issue, and I'm surprised that more of you don't agree.

Texas Sodomy Law has left a sour tastes in people's minds about state's rights. Namely, that states will take them and be retarded with them.

I say 16 for driving and sex, and 18 for drinking. No reason someone can serve in the military and die for the right to drink a beer that they don't have.

21 for drinking is seriously fucked up. Can't believe you Americans haven't rioted over that one yet. It defies all logic, and I'd have to wonder as to the effect it has on nightlife in the cities and the profits bars and clubs make. Shit, 18 to 21(obviously including all the illegal 16 and 17 year olds) is a huge drinking demographic in Britain.

I find that argument flawed, given that at LEAST a third (and probably many more) of the states have the age of consent set at 16.

EDIT: Upon doing a little research, at least half of the states have the age of consent set at 16.

So how would the states fuck that up? Most of them already are at the level you want.

Drinking age should be 18. True, there WOULD be an influx in drinking from adults 18-20, but it would pass in time.

A major problem with the MPAA rating system, aside from the age restrictions, is the bias that goes into rating the films. Whereas an ultraviolent film directed by Steven Spielberg, such as Saving Private Ryan, will get an R-rating, a movie by a lesser known independent director with the same amount of graphic violence will get NC-17.

So, not only is the overall system flawed, but it is also biased for the mainstream production companies.

If you're an adult at age 18, why can't you drink? You can vote, hell you can join the military.

All while drinking milk.

and don't forget you can buy porn and gamble at 18 too.

if your like me, you can drink at 19.

I'm just talking about the general national opinion. People as a whole aren't thinking too highly of state's rights in these kinds of issues because we just had a big scene where a state got a bit too carried away with it's rights.

Everyone started drinking early.

I've never been a hard drinker, but I started to be offered drinks (from adults) regularly at social events at 15.

Even before that, there was always the odd drink or Holiday wine.

i always thought the drinking age in canada was 19 because my friends who are turning 19 are always talking about how they can't wait to go to canada to drink. On the subject of the age of consent, i feel that there should be a rule stating that 16 is the legal age of consent to have sex with someone 18+. I also think if a person is above the age of consent (16-17) that they could have sex with a person 15 or older. Anything under 15 is just too young and too close to elementary school ages.

My morbid Ideals

Everyone over 15 should be allowed to have sex, with thoses under 18. By 14, they already went through a Liberal sex ed because this way to learn about protection. Nothing wrong with preaching no sex, but common sense says they will do it, so it is better to make it as safe as possible.

Anyone over 18 years old should not have sex with anyone under 18 Of course there is a gray area that the law should allow for.

As for drinking and Casino Gambling. Well, yes you can join the Army get a gun and legally kill someone. But you can't drink or Gamble because you are too young. They should make it 18, but they should also educate people on the pros and cons of drinking.

Health class shouldn't be just a throw away class for a year. They should really get teachers to teach that class like it is as important as English. Gym should also be added because making the class not count just gives kids an excuse to not do anything. If they want people to be adware of what fast food and unprotected sex do to them, then they should make these two classes important.

As for movies: As long as they are rated, let the parents decide. For the most part, males 13 to 17 are on the same mature wavelenght. So it doesn't matter one way or the other.

Does it really matter what the law is in these cases? I mean how many of us actually follow them anyway. :)

Hell, 3 of my friends started having sex @ 14. But I chose 16, because you would be a little older and a little wiser.
