Guest MideonMark Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 I'm a Man United fan living in Ireland, so I dont exactly have access to US football(or soccer as you Americans like to call it, you crazy cats), but anyway Man United have signed Metrostars goalkeeper Tim Howard and was wondering if he is any good. Is he good enough to play in the English league which lets face it is vastly superior to the American one.
Guest razazteca Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 I do not keep up with Major League Soccer just like the rest of the country but if he was given a contract by an English team than he must be good. Is he as good as the national team keeper Keller, I doubt it but who knows. MLS is the pro football league in the USA, but nobody outside New York area or California really cares. The only football that matters is the international games vs Mexico or jobbing to latin american teams.
Agent_Bond34 Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 I did get a chance to see Tim Howard when the U.S. National team was playing against Mexico a while back, I thought he did quite well, IMO. As far as a first-impression goes (or whatever you wish to call it) I liked what I saw.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 If he was good enough, wouldn't he already be playing in Europe?
rising up out of the back seat-nuh Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 MLS is on late night Channel 5 sometimes. Howard looks pretty good, but he's not in Barthez's league IMHO
Guest Jack Tunney Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 I've seen a lot of Metrostars games and I think he's amazing. He can stop PK's like they're nothing. He's better than Barthez IMO.
Guest The Hamburglar Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 Saw him in the Confederation Cup, he was excellent. What is it about Americans that the one position they seem to have down properly is that of the goalkeeper? I mean, Friedel's the joint best keeper in the Premiership along with Niemi, and Keller's pretty good too. Barthez made too many mistakes last season and it seems Howard is being groomed as his long term replacement for United.
Guest redbaron51 Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 He's division 1 Material, but with a team like Man U, its gonna make no difference. Still Chelsea to win the premiership this year
