Guest JMA Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 Triple H's dream seems to be to be Ric Flair (or at least be as prominent). We've seen him dress like Flair, ride in limos, and he even has the big gold belt. But it seems to me that Hunter could be compared to another NWA star... Dusty Rhodes. Think about it. 1: They've both held down talented wresters with their booking. 2: They're both shameless self-promoters with huge egos. 3: Both wrestled when clearly past their prime. 4: Both have weight problems (muscle/fat respectively) What do you think? Is Triple H more Rhodes than Flair?
Guest The Czech Republic Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 Nope, he's still Flair. Bubba Ray Dudley is Dutha Rose to me.
Guest nWoScorpion Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 Theres no such thing as the Hunter-Finish yet, so he's not in Rhodes league. (Remarking the Dusty-Finish phrase). I forgot if he was given the nickname "Poochie" though.
Cheex Incarnate Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 hunter finish is really a two part thing 1. lose by dq or something like that the first go around 2. beat the same guy with the pedigree anyway -cheex
Guest PowerPB13 Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 Theres no such thing as the Hunter-Finish yet, so he's not in Rhodes league. (Remarking the Dusty-Finish phrase). Hunter Finish = kick out of opponent's finisher after a delayed cover, ref bump, low blow, heel stable run-in, sledgehammer, finisher, pin. -Patrick
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 Well that does explain the booker/christian finishes.
Guest JMA Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 Remember when Jericho got the Dusty Finish screw-job?
Guest The Amazing Rando Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 *waits for HHH to bust out THE BIONIC KNEE*
Guest JMA Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 Someone should bring a sign to Raw that says "Triple H=Dusty Rhodes." That would be sure to piss him off.

That's the Cena match in a nutshell--replace "sledgehammer" with "chain on fist."
Guest PowerPB13 Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 Someone should bring a sign to Raw that says "Triple H=Dusty Rhodes." That would be sure to piss him off. Actually, I think Dusty was more talented... -Patrick
Guest Choken One Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 Then Flair or HHH? Either way...HA! Dusty was never a "WRESTLER" but a guy that connected to the crowd and was a GREAT draw... He reminds me of RVD in that gets over for just being cool sense...But yeah...Bubba seemed at point to be HHH's groomed Dusty...
Guest JMA Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 Actually, Buh Buh reminds me more of Cactus Jack than Dusty Rhodes. Of course, Mick's promo skills are far superior.
Guest Choken One Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 In A way I can see that... But I always saw Rhodes/Bubba as the COMMON man type gimmick...
Guest Askewniverse Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 Bubba = Dusty Rhodes. Go back to the World Tag Team Title Match at WrestleMania (or Heat, if you want to get technical). Bubba drops an elbow on RVD, and he gets pinned. You can hate HHH all you want, but at least he's never pinned or caused someone to get pinned by an elbowdrop.
ChrisMWaters Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 You can hate HHH all you want, but he's never pinned anybody, or caused anybody to get pinned by an elbowdrop. No, but he has beaten people with a sleeper hold. No one in this day and age should beat someone with a sleeper hold.
Guest Choken One Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 Piper won BILLIONS with the Sleeper...as did Dibiase and Austin... Damn good company right there...
ChrisMWaters Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 Piper won BILLIONS with the Sleeper...as did Dibiase and Austin... Damn good company right there... Notice though I said "This Day and Age." Piper could get away with it in the 80's. I mean, you could get away with a legdrop and a Gorilla Press Slam in the 80's. DiBiase and Austin used a different type of hold...a variation. Variations are exceptions to the rule.
Guest Choken One Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 The same damn purpose though... Doesn't The Taz-Mission count as a Sleeper in some form?
Guest Askewniverse Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 No, but he has beaten people with a sleeper hold. No one in this day and age should beat someone with a sleeper hold. But look at the people that HHH beat with the sleeper. He beat maybe two people with the sleeper, Spike Dudley and Jeff Hardy. Before someone mentions it, I know that HHH also got a fall over Rocky in their Iron Man Match using the sleeper. In that case, it was acceptable, since it fit into the context of the match. I mean, you could get away with a legdrop and a Gorilla Press Slam in the 80's. Hogan still uses a legdrop as his finisher.

I think that's more of a 'the stupid ways RVD jobs' thing. THink about it: an elbow, a DDT (not the Triple H one, but the one where he jobbed to Morley), and a missle dropkick (that's how he got eliminated from the Elimination Chamber, right?).
ChrisMWaters Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 I mean, you could get away with a legdrop and a Gorilla Press Slam in the 80's. Hogan still uses a legdrop as his finisher. Well, point. But the way I figure it, it's the 3 punches and the big boot that knocks people out, and the legdrop is just icing. Sorta like the Rock Bottom/People's Elbow combo.

I guess you're right. Then again, I think that any time RVD has jobbed in the last year has been stupid. To be fair, I think that the Survivor Series one only happened because of RVD's injury. Plus, Booker T actually used the missile dropkick as his finisher for a brief time in WCW, so it isn't that bad.
Guest CanadianChick Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 Alright, but there's no way to defend the elbow and Morely DDT. And yes, Bubba=Dusty Rhodes. I'm waiting for Bubba to use the Bionic Elbow on Goldust.
Guest Askewniverse Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 Alright, but there's no way to defend the elbow and Morely DDT. Can't argue with you there. It's bad enough that RVD was stuck on Heat, but to have him job to an elbowdrop is ridiculous. As for the Morley DDT, I like to pretend that never happened.
Guest BionicRedneck Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 I'm waiting for Bubba to use the Bionic Elbow on Goldust. Hasn't he already done it? Or they did the elbow together on someone else or something. I remember something involving those two and that move.

Or they did the elbow together on someone else or something. I remember something involving those two and that move. They've both been faces for as long as I can remember, and they did both do the move simultaneously as a double team. I believe it was in a fatal four way tag or something. I want to say it was a Raw, but I may be wrong.

I forgot if he was given the nickname "Poochie" though. Actually, no. The Hunter-Finish should refer to when a heel goes over when there's a face special referee who blatently cheats on behalf of the face. It defies basically every convertion of wrestling logic, and I've only ever seen it happen with HHH.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 What about getting pinned in a tag match just to win at the PPV?
