Chris Benoit is said to show a large amount of enthusiasm backstage in preparation for his matches.

 

Despite his more reserved and intense on-camera persona, behind the scenes he is known for giving fiery speetches intended to motivate wrestlers before their matches.

 

Before a recent match, he was spotted yelling at the Basham Brothers that “You gotta feel it!”

Please. When Triple H and Taker give these speeches, it's "Fuck those guys. They shouldn't be saying anything." When Benoit does it, it's "Benoit is God !"

 

I am, by no stretch of the imagination, a Taker or Triple H fan. But this is just so hypocritical. Some of Benoit's recent matches, excluding the one with Matt Hardy, have been pretty damn sluggish. Almost as sluggish as a Triple H match. But they have two different standards when they give speeches ?

Yeah, but when HHH was giving these speeches its during a time when he is nowhere near the top worker in the company, and isnt giving near the effort of some of these other guys, yet hes telling people to STEP IT UP.

 

its the difference between if Derek Jeter made a speech to the yankees that they have to try harder, and if Armando Benitez gave same speech.

Another difference is, when HHH gives that kind of speech, it's usually under the context of "the product has been shitty lately & ratings are plummeting, and it's all your fault because you're all not working as hard as me". Benoit just does it (IMO) to get guys fired up for their matches.

I think it's acceptable for guys like Benoit/Angle to address the guys backstage for one reason. They are actually a good fucking example, and one that everyone backstage could learn from.

 

HHH on the other, is not.

I have no problem with Benoit trying to motivate the others, as opposed to HHH/Taker because...

 

1...Benoit works his ass off much harder than those two. He IS the better wrestler in that group, and is a legitimate veteran wrestler. He's gotten over by his workrater/in ring a bility.

 

2....I'm betting he doesnt seem as condescending since he's one of the "grunts" of the WWE. He works his ass ou there and doesn't go around playing backstage politics and/or sleeping with Steph to keep his push.

Actually, I think Benoit and Angle could learn a lot from HHH. For all the wrong reasons.

 

As for Benoit's speeches, when he goes on the WWE website and says that no one knows how to work, we can start drawing comparisons.

I think he meant that we all assume that people are a certain way because of the way they are portrayed, yet none of us really know these people. Kobe has a squeaky clean image and it's hard for people to come to grips with the allegations against him. We also have a preconceived image of Benoit, even though none of us know the guy and all we know about him is what is reported by dirtsheets and the net.

 

Not saying he's right, just pointing out the context he is trying to tie in his comparisons to.

Yes but he hasn't... all that's been reported is that he's been helping motivate wrestlers backstage. When something bad about him is reported then they can make that comment, because it's not relevant here.

I like how "Benoit motivates young wrestler!" in a "headline" is all that needs to be said and the very next post is proclaiming him a god. Are you guys really that enamored with him that anything and every thing he does is percieved as step towards godhood? People in physical proffesions like wrestling give each other pep talks all the time, its really not that big a deal...

 

Benoit is one of the best to ever step foot in a ring, so in a wrestling aspect yeah you could say he's a god. But in real life? The guy stole Kevin Sullivan's wife for Christ's sake, not very saintly behavior. But either way, who cares? What these guys do in their personal lives doesn't really matter, as long they entertain me come show time. Shawn Michaels was a complete asshole, but in his heyday he could still keep you glued to the set.
