The Decemberists 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2005 I've brought the "Pretend Everythings Alright" banner out of retirement due to our current woes. We nearly got rid of Taylor to Sheff Utd, but they got some guy from Pompy instead so we have to keep him I've nothing against Super Gaz in particular like most of the fans have, but getting shot of him would've been for the best just as it would give the ground a better atmosphere as the boo boys would take a couple of weeks to find a new target.... deancoles 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2005 What are your thoughts on Marlon King now? hoping the fee for him has gone up or do you want him back?
The Decemberists 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2005 It was always obvious that he had buckets of ability, and he scored some cracking long range goals, but his committment to the cause was non existant. He was on a hiding to nothing in the first place as he was signed to replace Marlon Harewood (only King cost us twice as much money as we got for Marlon) who, despite not always showing his ability, gave everything he had for the club - apart from his last few games when he'd pretty much sorted out his West Ham transfer anyway. £500,000 or so would do for me, plus it gets his £8,500 a week off the wage bill. We signed Hoult from West Brom the other day, which was a bit of a surprise. It's only on loan for a month because all three of our keepers are injured, but it's a quality signing. We might get our first clean sheet sheet of the season against Rotherham tomorrow! Megson's came out this week and admitted that his management techniques he used at West Brom aren't working here, so he's going to try some different ways. Considering his whole managment abilites seem to consist of shouting and swearing at the player, it'll be interesting to see what happens now he's stopped. Could go bottom on Saturday, and with Notts top of League Two at the minute there could be a very worrying 0 number of teams between us...
caboose 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2005 3-0 was far too flattering for Newcastle today. But at least Shearer and Owen are off the mark. Damn Ricardo Fuller. ALSO: Sam Allardyce's Bolton should be arrested for literally robbing Man City of three points.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2005 Sometimes, I despair at the British media. Thursday-Saturday: "Wayne Rooney needs to calm himself down and learn to keep his cool." Sunday evening: "Rooney looked like a sulking child against Liverpool, he showed no passion." Maybe that's because he'd had everyone claiming he was a loose cannon for the past 3 days? You're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't. All these journalists who claim they want England to win the World Cup and then criticise everything Rooney, Sven and Beckham do to sell papers aren't doing any good. Mystery Eskimo 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2005 I've no interest in the Premiership and the likes of Rooney anymore. I know thats jumping on a bandwagon but still. Forest won tonight!!! Two in a row!!!
deancoles 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2005 From all I've heard we were awful again, we've got Brentford away which is a chance to convince those poor people interested in our job to go somewhere else/stay where they are. Edit: http://www.sigames.com/downloads.php?type=view&id=354 Didn't know this was out, normally they bring out the Beta in october and the demo a few weeks later. The Decemberists 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2005 You were the best team I've seen this year. Had the ball on the floor, passed it round well etc. Stewart is the best (non-Forest) player in this divison by miles, the big problem is that none of your other players seem to be on his wavelength so a lot of his runs and through ball don't work out as well as they should. Still, 3-1! Ha! Jack Lester's completely transformed our season. He's just so much better than everyone else we have at holding the ball up and getting others into the game, plus he creates so much, and, perhaps best of all, he's the best diver in the football league!
deancoles 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2005 Our problem is that our Midfield is a mess, no crosses and no protection to our defence. Edit: Those comments about Stewart are similar to our thoughts on Bridges.
The Decemberists 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2005 Bridges came on for the last 15 minutes or so, and didn't impress me at all. Looked very week and didn't seem up for any sort of physical battle. Your best midfeilder was Murray, who made some dangerous runs down the right, and then got subbed. At some point you brought someone one who's name I forget at the moment who seemed to be a decent holding midfeilder, I think it might have been Cotterill, and he managed to slow down our midfeilders getting into spaces and was able to intercept some of Lesters and Johnno's flicks. By the way, our match day magazine thing does a all time team for whoever we're playing, our Bristol City Dream Team was, Mike Gibson Gerry Sweeny Geoff Merrick Gerry Gow Gary Collier Norman Hunter Trevor Tainton John Atyeo Andy Cole Chris Garland Clive Whitehead Does that seem a reasonable selection, or have we just randomly picked players and decided that'll do?
deancoles 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2005 No problems with that, Cole might be debated because he was only with us for a year but most of us rate him as our best player of the last 15 years beside Bob Taylor.

A 15 year old played for us last night against Blackpool.
The Decemberists 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2005 Forest have no assistant manager on the demo, and when i ran an advert for it, I got people like Ruud Guillit and Claudio Ranieri applying. Which would've been great if they'd then wanted to join when i tried to offer a contract.
deancoles 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2005 Did you get him before Mid August? anything after that isn't included.
caboose 0 Report post Posted September 22, 2005 I'll probably get that but i'm more exited about the new Pro Evolution game. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hell yes, have you played the demo of Pro Evo 5 yet? Its a lot harder to beat men now. And from what I've seen thus far, the goalie glitch where he leaves certain things for no visible reason is gone.
Anorak 0 Report post Posted September 22, 2005 I've not played a demo yet, only read a preview in a magazine. Not having to see your keeper watch a soft shot dribble in the corner of the net will be nice. Even on level 6 it's too easy to beat players on PES 5 so that's a good change. The shooting is supposed to be a bit different as well.
deancoles 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2005 Looks like Gary Johnson's the new man barring an argument over money, shame we can only deal in loans until January as I can see at least 5 players Johnson would want shifted.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2005 (edited) I hope PES 5 has a better way of making opponents harder to play against than the current, 'every deflection falls to an opposing player, the referee is blind and you can't control the ball properly when passed to you' method that PES 4 seems to use against me all the time. And that's just on 3 star level. Edited September 23, 2005 by King Cucaracha
Vanhalen 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2005 OMG So many fucking draws
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2005 I just went and played PES 4 after my last post. I almost forgot the game's insistance on you completely fluffing headers for no reason, fullbacks magically disappearing to centre back every time you're being counter attacked, every computer player's ability to out-run Ryan Giggs and Cristiano Ronaldo when you play as Man United but their unmatchable speed when playing against them, the 'X' tackle causing you to completely run past the opponent, every good tackle you make running out for a throw, inability to change to the player you want, sudden control changes when you actually ARE the player you want, almost every shot you have going straight in the middle of the goal, never winning a header in your own penalty area, never winning a header in your opponent's penalty area and of course missing a penalty and an open goal. And this is on Level 3. As Manchester United against Blackburn. And, now, my L2 and R2 buttons are lying mangled somewhere on my bedroom floor as a result PES 4 has to be the most computer biased game I've ever played. Which is a pity, because it's a good game, when not blatantly and mind numbingly unfair.
The Decemberists 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2005 Frankly, you must just be rubbish as I've never had any of those problems... Just won another League, Cup and Champions League (I forget what they call it) treble on Level 6. I'm not sure how, but I always seem to manage some sort of zen mastery with the games just before the new one comes out. Perfect
The Decemberists 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2005 We got a very good 1-1 away at Swansea today, despite a shocking referee. We had a cast iron penalty turned down when Commons was just pushed over when he was running onto the ball inside the area by a defender running away from the ball just to push him, plus they should've had their center forward sent off for kicking Wes Morgan off the ball and he only got booked, and Jack Lester should probably have been sent off for use of the elbow but the ref got that wrong too. That's three goals in as many games now for Lester since he's came back from eight months of a cruiate ligament injury.
deancoles 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2005 Got a 3-2 win at Brentford, would have been more comprehensive had Wilkshire scored the penalty at 3-1. GJ's got the players in for training today, probably to stop a few of the players from their late night antics and said he'll have a word with Wilkshire about his run up on penalties. We also look like having a really good right back, Bradley Orr was crap when he joined us last year as a midfielder, you wouldn't have guessed he was Newcastle reserve captain, but since Tinnion left he's played at right back and has looked a natural there.
deancoles 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2005 3-0 against Barnsley, wish we'd got rid of Tinnion earlier.
The Decemberists 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2005 1-1 home to Blackpool. Pissed all over them in the first 15 minutes, hit the woodwork twice, they scored a lucky free kick and we totally fell apart. Sneeked a equaliser from a late corner. We got booed of at the end, which I thought was harsh. That's four games unbeaten and it's a good sign to play crap but still not lose I'd imagine.
deancoles 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2005 How do your fixtures look for the next couple of games? Our fixtures are pretty good until December with only Doncaster and Oldham away I can see us losing.By then hopefully the gap between play offs and midtable should start. The Decemberists 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2005 Tranmere (h) Southend (a) Hartlepool (h) Yeovil (a) Part of me thinks they're all winnable, but if we keep playing as bad as last night then we could really struggle.
The Decemberists 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2005 Another win for the Reds today! That's five games unbeated, with 11 points from a possible 15 - that's promotion form, baby! Gaz Taylor scored the only goal soon after being brought on as a sub to a huge chorus from boo's from most of the knobhead fans. Sure enough they all cheered when he scored though... k thx 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2005 Full credit to Forrest. Good to see them turning their season around. 0-0 against Newcastle today. Probably would have taken that beforehand, but we apparently played them off the park in the first half. We need a striker, pronto.
