He performed very well. He looked very solid and comfortable. He is not the best on the ball, but that can be forgiven since he allows no-one past him. I was worried Jeffers or Lisbie would burn him for pace, but again, they never got the chance.

Michael Svensson is better though.

How long is Svensson out for the injury? It was a knee injury wasn´t?

He got injured just before the end of last season. They had hoped he would be fit for Sweden in the Euro's, but it turned out that it was much more serious than first diagnosed.

He had an operation to fix it with the intention of being ready for the start of the new season, but it is still not right and has had a second operation. Hopefully he will be back before Christmas.

EDIT: Yes, it is the knee injury.

United only manage a draw, while Liverpool beat last year's runners up 2-0, leaving United as the only English team not to win their opening tie. I still have faith though. As long as there's such a thing as 'injury time', we'll be getting points.

Arsenal and Chelsea get off to winning starts, Chelsea more convincingly.

Who's picking the winner of it?

I'm tempted to say Chelsea..

I think Chealsea is the best bet for English teams but I'm picking Barcelona.

I can't believe we lost 4-1 against Bradford, good job the league's crap outside of Luton, a 10 game unbeaten streak and we'll be in 2nd place 6 points clear of 3rd place and 11 points off top.

Edit: Are any of our teams actually doing as well as hoped/expected?

We are above Leicester and Forest are in the relegation zone.

I couldn't have asked for more.

0-0 at home to Burnley.

One of the most boring matches i've ever seen. We're unbelievably poor this season, no quality or imagination going forward whatsoever and the team has less character and drive than any side since the David Pleat era (and i'm barely old enough to remember that). Micky Adams is on borrowed time. Anybody could have got us up with Portsmouth 2 seasons ago and a better manager could have kept us up last season as well. We haven't got a game plan or a clue, our home record is something like two wins in 27 or something similar. There's no excuse for not winning most of our home matches in this division at least and the fact we're struggling so much in such a poor division is depressing as hell.

Comiserations to Vanhalen and WJM (where she been at recently?), becuase both my teams beat your teams and for the first time in forever, Newcastle and Derby win on the same day. With Europe taking the Ryder Cup, its been a good weekend for me sportswise!

I just pray Souness starts with Milner on the right, Robert on the left, and Jenas & BUTT in the middle from now on.

With Pressman(Saw him the other day and he looks way heavier than a few years ago) and Walker as your Goalie's you should be pleased with the cleansheet ;)

What forward combination are you using? you should get Neil Shipperly on loan from Crystal Palace and hope that him and Connolly do what they did at Wimbledon(namely getting 45 goals between them a season).

Burnley have actually done ok defensively since they bought Championship Manager legend Mike Duff from Cheltenham for £25,000(on CM it's 10 times that)

Edit: The Real Madrid coach has resigned after 3 league games because the dressing room problems(Raul's said to have huge influence on previous manager's team selections) so Owen and Woodgate now might get a manager who doesn't rate them.

I miss her :(

Coincidently, how long has it been since Newcastle and Derby both recorded back to back wins on the same day?

it's not like you're going to go and lose to Palace.

Palace'll be lucky to beat the Premiership's lowest points total(19) with their squad of players, I do feel sorry for their fans though and I'd love City and Palace to swap places .

I'm not a Palace fan, but hasn't their guy done wonders for them?

I remember, Dowie, taking over, he won the first two games (then lost 4-0 at Derby) ( :D ) Then going on this great run to make the playoffs, then win the playoffs.

But if there was ever an example of the difference in class between the two divisions, this is it.

The sad thing is that if Stoke somehow go up it'll be even worse, at least a team like Wigan has some money to spend.

If we ever got to the premiership in the next 10 years we probably would do the same as Palace, we'd have to rely on our Youth Academy(gave us half our 1st team) and Loan Signings.

Edit: My Premiership Table 2004/2005

Go to the bottom of the page, Apart from Everton and Bolton my predictions are ok(especially Spurs)

Walker's a good keeper, he's got better with age I think and he's as good as a decent few in the Premier. He just had three really bad games on the bounce last season after that fan ran on the pitch to him vs Villa.

Steve Cotterill is a good defensive coach and he obviously knew as well as anybody how predictable a Micky Adams side is offensively having coached here last season. Burnley hardly broke sweat keeping us at bay for that point. I don't think Connolly's a bad player but he's lost his confidence with not scoring and we've got a midfield that's not going to provide any service for him, Shipperly can stay at Palace, we've got enough donkeys here already. Funny thing on Saturday when the crowd were chanting for young Tommy Smith to come on and when Blake comes on instead he got booed.

I'm not surprised at the Madrid news but Raul needs kick up the backside, he's been awful for as long as I can remember.

We've got Everton at home in the Carling Cup tonight.I'm not to fussed about the result since we haven't done anything in this competition since 89 when we reached the semi's.

BTW, I got the FM 2005 demo and it's pretty good for a 6 month beta, it's going to be uploaded tomorrow on www.sigames.com and will be online for a week.

Edit: Oh shit, on the Football Special they're hyping up Leroy Lita, he'll probably be off by the end of the month.

Sports Interactive (Developers) split up with Edios (publishers). Edios kept the Championship Manager name, Sports Interactive kept the code. Sports Interactive are creating Football Manager 2005, which will be great. Edios are making CM 04/05, which will be crap.

You should remember Raul is Spanish, this prohibits him from playing well on TV.

He is Beckham to Real's England.
