Bored 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2003 Down to 10 days (counting today) until the trade deadline so might as well create a topic for discussion about it. Only thing today is the Red Sox acquire lefty middle reliever Scott Sauerbeck. Peter Gammons reports tommorrow that the A's will send Ted Lilly and a prospect to the Blue Jays for Kelvim Escobar. Guest oldschoolwrestling Report post Posted July 22, 2003 I'll take a bag of peanuts for Ted Lilly. He was never able to put together more than one good game at a time.
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted July 22, 2003 I am thinking you might hear some rumblings about the Phillies going after a fifth starter. Duckworth has not shown up this year and in his 14 starts has only gone 6 innings or more 3 times. You can't have something like that draining the bullpen constantly down the stretch. Brett Myers can't throw a complete game every time to make up for it (although he tries).

EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2003 Giants need to go out and get a veteran starter...I really want them to trade away Alfonso right now. Feliz is doing a good job when he's in there and I think that they might get a 4th or 5th starter if they trade him away. A's might wanna go and get an outfielder with Dye out. Those are my teams. And also, Kelvim Escobar is very good for Ted Lilly. Lilly has done jack shit this year, and I find it funny that Cory Lidle, who did ok last year for the A's, has double digit victories this year for the Blue Jays. Probably the same will happen to Lilly?

Lilly has done jack shit this year, and I find it funny that Cory Lidle, who did ok last year for the A's, has double digit victories this year for the Blue Jays. Probably the same will happen to Lilly? Lidle has a 5.88 ERA and has been stuck on 10 wins for a while. With the A's offense he'd have 10 or more losses with that ERA. Still talks about getting J.D. Drew, which would ironically enough involve Lidle going to the Cardinals for Drew and then the Jays would ship him to Oakland. Still a small chance of Brian Giles but the Pirates want Jason Kendall to be part of the deal and the A's don't need a catcher and definently can't take on his contract which is waaaaaaaay more than he's worth. EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2003 I know they can always put Durazo in right field...but you get JD Drew in there...and I'm guessing you're gonna have to give up something big...a left-handed starter is always good, and Lilly's better suited for the NL anyways. AL loves the fastball. NL doesn't really like a first-pitch fastball.
Bored 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2003 Durazo in right? Ummm considering he's only played four games there in his career don't count on it. There is a reason why he is a DH and its not only to keep him healthy. Any deal the A's make though they will likely have to make another deal just to dump salary because of their owner. They are likely shopping Terrence Long to some sucker right now. I'm sure they'd LOVE to get rid of Jermaine Dye's contract but not even Billy Beane would be able to convince a team to take him. Guest Crazy Dan Report post Posted July 23, 2003 I have heard the Giants are going after Bartola Colon. I think he would definately would be a great addition to the staff, and would bring Post Season experience as well. And throw Colon into a pitcher's park like Pac Bell, and you could have the makings of a great staff which could cary the Giants back to the Series ( a Giant's fan can dream).
Bored 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2003 Word on Colon is teams have called about him but the White Sox still think they have a shot with 13 games against the Royals in the second half so don't expect a trade. Hot off the presses: Cubs acquire Kenny Lofton and Aramis Ramirez from the Pirates for Jose Hernandez and I think a minor leaguer.
Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted July 23, 2003 Cubs fans had better do some kind of religious dance or something to keep Lofton healthy. Playing centerfield for them this year looks to be pretty dangerous.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted July 23, 2003 The Twins need another reliever. F'n Joe Mays has no business in the major leagues. Likely cost the Twins a shot at being within 4 1/2 games of first.
Bored 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2003 BLOCKBUSTER DEAL....Yankees acquire Jesse Orosco from the Padres.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted July 23, 2003 Why do the Yankees want that washed up stiff? He literally has nothing left. Benitez is a big gamble, but he's capable of being a good setup man.
Guest jimmy no nose Report post Posted July 23, 2003 I guess the Pirates officially gave up for the year now that they have no real center fielder, a 35 year old third baseman with about half the numbers of Ramirez whose career highlight was nearly breaking the single season strikeout record before getting benched to prevent it from happening, and one left handed pitcher. Hopefully they at least stop saying how they're still in it.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 23, 2003 :::Sigh::: All right REDS fans...Who you taking for the Annual Bonehead trade from Bowden this year?
Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted July 23, 2003 Adam Dunn for a rosin bag would be pretty boneheaded.
Guest Bruiser Chong Report post Posted July 23, 2003 As a Cubs fan, hearing that they had acquired a CFer and a solid hitter, while dumping a guy who had made me question what they were thinking when they traded for him, was a nice consolation for their loss tonight. Granted Loften isn't what he used to be, but with Goodwin going down for a little while, they're really hurting for one, which is a shame since Goodwin had really stepped up to the challenge, hitting everything in sight and showing more hustle than many of his peers. It would seem that the Pirates are ready to pull themselves apart as they've (management) has made it clear that they want to win, not just get by. Plus, they're down $30 million this year even with the new ballpark, so the situation over there is really bad. It looks like they'll be taking apart their squad completely and going for the reboot route.

Guest Phr33k Report post Posted July 23, 2003 GAAAAAAAAAHHH... the Expos NEED relief pitching. The starters would be fine if it wasn't for the relievers losing them the games every night. In a perfect world, they could get something for, say, Tatis or Barrett, but I doubt it... they'll probably have to part with Cabrera, Chavez, Wilkerson... someone of value. Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted July 23, 2003 Bullpen looked pretty shitty tonight against the Marlins. Ohka left the game down only by a few runs (I think something like 3-1 or 4-1) and they lost the game 9-1.
Bored 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2003 Oh and just a couple of rumors to throw out, both involving the Padres as they might be the team willing to take on Jason Kendall's contract to get Brian Giles from Pittsburgh. Also if the Royals can't get Juan Gonzalez they are going to go after Rondell White of the Padres.
