Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 31, 2003 I'm thinking we'll get one MORE Blockbuster likely involving the Yankees and a couple Small deals.

Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted July 31, 2003 I am so marking out for pissed off Peter Gammons. I wish it was trade time every day so he could always be like this.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 31, 2003 WHAT'S HIS PROBLEM NOW?
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted July 31, 2003 The Reds. First he was railing about the Guillen trade. Then he got into talking about Aaron Boone, and he was saying "There was rumors of a Garcia to Boston, Boone to Seattle, something to Cincy deal", but he said that fell through and instead we will get Boone and Gabe White to the Yankees for Brandon Claussen and 3.5 mil. And he went off about how they are just selling off players and if there wasn't a commisioner with conflicts of interests he would block these trades from happening. Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Well...Nice to see Gammons on The fans side but Ya know...Cincy isn't exactly clamoring for Boone and White to stay in town... How is this different from what Pittsburgh was doing last week?
Guest Human Fly Report post Posted July 31, 2003 I don't know anything about Claussen, but he can't be any worse than what we have now. On top of that, we get enough money to pay Paul Wilson's salary next year. Add that to the 1.25 we got from Boston, not having to pay Boone and Williamson after arbitration, not paying Guillen and Gabe White, and no Barry Larkin 9 mil. a year contract. I think the Reds could have a chance to make some good moves this offseason.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 31, 2003 What Pitchers are available in the off-season?
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Millwood. And I think Vazquez will go because he is arbitration eligible.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Millwood? I just know the reds won't get him... I have the feeling he'll sign with St. Louis just to fuck us some more.
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Others who will be free agents are Sydney Ponson, Kirk Reuter, Andy Pettitte, Bartolo Colon, John Burkett, and Pedro Astacio.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Ok...AT LEAST GET ONE OF THOSE GUYS CINCY! Colon was already here last year but Moneybags Carl went "Nah".
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted July 31, 2003 I would be surprised if Millwood doesn't end up back with Atlanta. They will have the 15 mil they are paying Maddux to play with.
Guest Human Fly Report post Posted July 31, 2003 And whatever happened to the promise earlier this season that if fans would go to games they would get a pitcher? Looks like another unfulfilled promise, but I'll let it slide if they pick up someone in the offseason who has got the goods.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Guillen won't put up the numbers he was putting up in Cincy for Oakland. I guess the A's filled a hole, but I see Guillen going back to being a maddeningly average player, the kind you KNOW is capable of more but never quite manages to put it together. It's also quite possible this is just a nice contract year for him, and he'll go right back to sucking next year. Releasing Appier makes no sense. At least try and get SOMETHING for him. Gert T 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2003 I'm a Cards fan but have the local sympathy for the Reds here in Dayton, but I really do not want to see either team spend the 8-10 million per year for Ponson. Maybe it isn't a fair generalization, but Syd is not a small man now and I worry once he gets that fat contract, he'll grow too.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Gammons is pretty funny ripping on the Reds owners. Ravech asked him where the 3.5 will go, and Gammons stood up and put the money in his back pants pocket. Than he put some money on the table, and said he wanted to buy Ryan Dempster. Ravech and Reynolds threw some coins. Choken to answer your question about the difference between Pitt. and Cin. Pittsburgh required players is making effort to rebuild the team. The Reds are receiving cash, and the ownership plans on keeping it themselves and not spend it on the team. So essentially, it's a fire sale without promises to rebuild for the future. Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Ah... I see Why do I always miss the good shit on that show?
Guest geniusMoment Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Gammons is just pissy because the reds fired his boy Bowden. Both are New Englanders and Bowden fed gammons trade rumors for years. Gammons gripes are just flat out stupid. In the Williamson deal we got a 2000 number one draft pick who according to Gary Hughes the cubs scouting director, they have been pretty successful in developing pitching, is a future number 2 starter. For Guillen we got Harang, a good future number 3 starter and Joe Valentine, the guy who broke the all time saves record for AA with 36 saves and a 1.20 ERA, he is only 23. For Boone we would get Claussen, the Yanks best prospect considered untouchable and a left handed starter who most project to be a solid 2. That means with the addition of Ryan Wagner Cincy will have added 5 good young arms in the past 2 months. So take your boston love and choke on it Pete. EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2003 It's really funny because people are 50/50 on Gammons. Some like him because of his knowledge, but some hate him because he's so JR with his love for Boston and all his other New England connections that it makes me sick sometimes... Guest cartman Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Dumatrait won't be anything more than a #4, #3 at best. Book that.
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted July 31, 2003 When you consider that Cincy's putting out five #6 starters at the moment, that's a good thing.

Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Trade rumor: Jeff Suppan and Brandon Lyon to the Red Sox Freddy Sanchez to the Pirates
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 31, 2003 I'm still banking on a Massive 3 team trade shortly... Likely involving Bosox...Cincy and Seattle.
Guest Kingpk Report post Posted July 31, 2003 (edited) Sox trade Freddy Sanchez and another minor leaguer to the Pirates for Jeff Suppan, Brandon Lyon and Anastacio Martinez. So the Sox get the two players back they traded in the Sauerbeck deal, get a pretty good #3 and a left-handed reliever, and only lose Freddy Sanchez. Not bad. Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 31, 2003 I guess Peter got his boy Bobby a new job eh?
Guest Kingpk Report post Posted July 31, 2003 And now the Yankees trade minor leaguer Brandon Claussen and cash to the Reds for Aaron Boone. Do the Yankees really need a guy like Boone? I thought it was their bullpen that needed work?
Guest jimmy no nose Report post Posted July 31, 2003 So the Pirates-Red Sox deals ended up turning into Suppan and Sauerbeck for Freddy Sanchez?
Guest Kingpk Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Basically. Guess that's how they settled the whole issue with Lyon's injury.
